Magicman...came thru again ...plus K because I can :).  "G" vice Q...can't spell too.
Al McGuire was  the coach that has his name on the floor at Georgia Tech? If so, saw him walking down the street...King Street... in Charleston.  Talked out of retirement to coach at Un of Charleston.  He raised the Program there but left before the new BB facility was finished...I believe.  Saw the new building under construction.  Another venue on my bucket list.
Jeff Mullins is the All-American player I associate with Fran McGuire!  Hope I am correct there.
Interesting timing in my household.  My sons and their wives arrive from NYC in about an hour.  Hope to get them to watch the Tufts game.  One couple was with me in LeFrak two years ago for the Amherst vs Tufts game.  They enjoyed the live action...a LJ win.
Al McGuire coached at Marquette Univeristy in Wisconsin where the court and venue (Al McGuire Center) are named after him.

Georgia Tech / University of Charleston would be Bobby Cremins.

Nah, Jeff was a Dookie, not UNC; must be someone else.

See that Middlebury has another Sunday date...nice!

EVERY NESCAC weekend is Friday-Sunday for Middlebury this year (as we've stated ad nauseum), as the Panthers have the disadvantage of playing opponents on a weekend when they have only one game.

Next year, someone else will have the pleasure.

Have been away from the board for a while...new job....injured son.....both headed in the right direction now thankfully..

Looking forward to the Bowdoin - Williams tilt tonight.  The P'bears have been competitive in the first half in a couple of games (e.g. Bates, Colby, Wesleyan) only to see the game slip away in the 2nd half.  Hopefully we'll be able to put together a complete 40 min game.  IMHO, keys to the game will to exploiting our size advantage on the front line for some 2nd chance points and limiting Williams 3 point scoring.

This is Bowdoin's first conference home game.  Classes don't start until Monday so there may not be many students at the game.  It's unfortunate b/c Bowdoin just doesn't have many conference home stands this year.

At the half Bowdoin is leading Wiliams: 40-23

Bowdoin has been shooting pretty well from behind the arc.  Also their match up zone defense is forcing Williams to take the majority of their shots from long range.  Bowdoin seems to be controlling the boards as well.

Hopefully the 2nd half goes the same way for the P'bears.

Bowdoin killing Williams by 17 at the half ... Bowdoin is on fire from three, and is moving the ball well to get very clean looks.  Meanwhile, Williams is totally flummoxed by the Bowdoin zone -- the Bears are collapsing on Wohl every time he gets the ball, and he really has had nowhere to go, basically, they are saying, anyone else beat us, and other than Aronowitz, no one on Williams can throw the ball near, let alone in, the ocean.  Bowdoin is daring everyone else to beat them from three, and the Ephs just can't buy one from behind the arc ... Bowdoin is playing smart, because if Hayden was out there, he'd be torching them, but those shots are instead going to other guys, mainly Greenman, who had a nightmare of a half, going 0-7 from deep.  Bowdoin isn't doing anything special defensively, but the Eph shooting woes (wide open looks that aren't even close) are so atrocious that they have an enormous hole to dig out of just to be competitive in this game.

Tufts leading at half 38-24. LJ's shooting 25 per cent from field. Tufts controlling boards though coach shelton not playing both towers at same time on many shifts.

Bowdoin defeats Williams 67-60.

Williams made a great run behind improved shooting in the second half (coupled with a poorly timed cold streak by Bowdoin including a couple missed foul shots late in the game).

Still this was one of Bowdoin's more complete games.  Congrats to Bowdoin on a great win!!!  Let's keep it going against Hamilton tomorrow.

Williams down 20 in the second half, about midway through the half, they kind of woke up and started playing much better, got it all the way down to 3, but Bowdoin made free throws at the end to hold on.  Pieri, Hurley, and Hausman all played great for Bowdoin.  Oddly enough, Swords was a non-factor vs. the much smaller Ephs, but Bowdoin won with very good three point shooting, while Williams struggled from three other than in the one big run very late in the game.

Bowdoin played excellent defense on Daniel Wohl, who had a rough day overall.  Dan Aronowitz was stellar for Williams, but he didn't get enough help from teammates.  Williams shot wayyyyy too many threes overall ... I think they had, maybe, two layups the entire game -- the combo of Bowdoin's zone, the presence of Swords, and a very impatient, quick-trigger offense by Williams led to way too few easy looks.  Ephs didn't get the layups off of cuts that they thrive off, and the lane was too clogged for Wohl to perform his usual heroics.   Bowdoin, in contrast, moved the ball very well, and was very patient all game, and hit the open looks they got.

For Williams, Darrias Sime and Ed Flynn did not play ... not sure what the story is.  Luke Thoreson and Lewis Hayes both gave a boost off the bench, playing well on both ends.  I'm not sure where Hayes has been all year, but he needs to play more -- he is big, strong, and a leaper, was a real force on the glass and on defense.  He and Sime give them a tremendously athletic duo off the bench.

The Ephs really need Hayden back, just not enough scorers out there right now.  But in the meantime, they have to play a more patient style of basketball.  Williams always seems to struggle vs. Bowdoin, even in years when you would think they would win easily.  This was not one of these years, and I'm not sure if it was the long road trip, being surprised by Bowdoin's zone, or the hangover from the emotional and draining Amherst/Trinity weekend, but the Ephs didn't seem to be fully engaged until it was a bit too late to wage a comeback.  Good win for Bowdoin, who played good team ball.

Tufts crushes Amherst 80-53

Didn't see anything other than the last minute of the game but "Wow"!!!

Crazy season in the NESCAC!

Another incredible game for Tufts tonight.. congrats to the Jumbos

AmherstStudent05

Full congratulations to Tufts.  They absolutely destroyed my Jeffs tonight, 80-53.

Tonight marks the first time since February 13, 2010 since a NESCAC team (Middlebury) has defeated Amherst in LeFrak.  This remarkable run spanned three NESCAC titles, six wins over Williams, and at least two over everyone else in the NESCAC.  What a run! Obviously, I was hoping we could hit the 5 year anniversary, but it was not to be.

But again,  tonight belongs to the Jumbos.  They completely outplayed us from the outset (I don't believer we ever had a lead).  Unfortunately, I was only able to watch the first half as some wifi issues relegated me to live stats for the second half. We just couldn't seem to hit a shot.  And Tufts's zone gave us all sorts of problems.  I am not sure the last time a NESCAC team beat us by 27+ and right now I don't have the heart to look it up.

Huge game tomorrow against Bates.  We still have all to play for.  Let's see the Jeffs rally strong tomorrow. Time to start a new streak in LeFrak!

Jumbos run wild  from opening tap. Are they  that good ? or was it an off night for Connor Green and LJ's.?  Great overall team effort.  Twin Towers set the tone, Sabety looked healthy and strong around  hoop again, and Palleschi played as usual, though hurt his ankle late in secd half and hope  will be ok. Madsen  subbed nice minutes , as Jumbos  have  deep depth and size. Tarik Smith ignited the outside  shooting, and Spadaford hit some big threes to put dagger into Jeffs hope for comeback.  Will be interesting what Tufts team appears tomorrow against Trinity.
