Good insight, Bucket.  It all worked out in the end for Midd.  Were there an all-defense team in NESCAC, my three guys on the perimeter would be Brown, Wohl and McCarthy.

MENESCACFAN

I watched the webcast and actually thought Lin played pretty well, consistent points and assists.  Sinnickson was an absolute monster at both ends of the floor.  Second game I have watched, and just not seeing it from St. Amour to justify the hype I heard.  Midd's 4th or 5th best player.

Looks like Hamilton and Conn are falling off, but everyone else in the hunt right now.

Some stats from Midd-Hamilton that really jump off the page:

*23 points and 21 rebounds for Dylan Sinnickson. Not a typo. 21 rebounds. Has to be close to a si gle-game record for the Panthers.

*Otherwise, we'd be leading with Matt Daley. 18 points and 16 boards on 7-10 shooting. That's the Matt Daley we've been waiting to see all year. Best thing about it was seeing him log 38 minutes.

*MattSt. amour close to a triple double. 8 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists.

* Funny when 23 fromMerryman is almost an afterthought.

* Lin 4-14 from the field, Brown hounding him all afternoon. Still, he hit the clutch 3 that sent the game to OT.

* Midd outrebounds Hamilton 59-26, including 26-5 on the offensive glass.

* That would spell blowout, but Hamilton red-hot from deep, 12-23.

The best "line" from the fine announcer for MIddlebury/NSN that best described the OT and foul extended game....i hope there is time to catch the Superbowl..need to get home to cook up some chicken wings.( apology for the paraphrasing) ;D
Need to correct and clarify some numbers in my post of the Amherst game....Conner Gren scored 33 vice 32 points.  Reid Berman's 8 assist was in 16 minutes of PT.
Monster games by Sinnickson, aka DK..23 points and 22? Boards...M. Daley..double-double man and Merryman.  clutch foul shooting in OT by the Panthers.
Very quiet in Pepin....no student led cheers?
Amherst's schedule now shows the postponed Lasell game on the Thursday before the MIddlebury game in Pepin.  As I have mention to a Midd fan....expect a critical game for conference seeding.

Little bit of a Midd lean there no Bucket?  Lin 4-14 noted but St. Amour 0-7 omitted?  17 points and 9 assists for Lin a very respectable showing.

As for Sinickson, amazing performance.

A near triple-double doesn't justify the hype?! Wow, tough grader! I will acknowledge that he is not shooting the ball well right now, but his basketball IQ is off the charts and he brings so much to the game, offensively and defensively, when he's on the floor,

Lin really had to work and was visibly frustrated, but credit to him for shaking off a very poor shooting night and draining that big shot.

And yes, Sinnickson was on another level today.

No.  Hewas behind Sinickson, Brown, Merryman and Daley for me, so fifth on his own team.  Making him not quite the rising star and future AA touted.  Good player for sure, but there are many better all over the league.

I watched a good chunk of today's game and definitely agree that St. Amour struggled mightily from the field. Towards the end of the game he seemingly had a number of looks at three pointers that one would think that a dead-eye shooter (even a struggling one) would take a crack at.

All of his points came from the charity stripe and all at the end of the game/regulation.

BUT, (1) he was an absolute machine at the free throw line under very trying circumstances, and (2) lest we forget, he is still a year removed from ACL surgery. He is probably still not fully recovered from that. Look at Ben Pollack. He has had a terrible time getting back to full health even after a year.

The injury is certainly a valid point and could explain things.

Bucket go to the Midd archives. Tom Hart averaged 27.6 rebounds per game not for a season but for his career from 1953-56. Simply mind boggling.

It might be fair to say that St. Amour won the game for the Panthers tonight - 8-8 from the line in OT. He was the player in whose hands we put the ball when the Continentals were fouling.

Matt St. Amour can go scoreless and still be one of your most valuable players.  His rebounds, assists, steals, stops and general disregard for his own body make St. Amour irreplaceable.

Just tuned in to last minute of Hamilton-Midd:  tremendous running three by Joseph Lin with 3 seconds left to tie the game, really difficult shot, headed to OT.  I know Midd has been burned twice by this strategy in the past, but I still always vote for fouling the guy in that situation.  Plus, Midd had a foul to give, so don't you HAVE to foul there prior to the shot??

Brown was instructed to foul. As Lin went up the court, Brown reached--but maybe not as aggressively as he could have. Maybe afraid of an intentional call? Worried Lin would see it coming and heave a shot on contact? Dunno. No whistle. Lin blows past  the reach and hits the difficult shot.

Before the start of overtime, the official came over to coach Brown and explained that he was ready to make the call, but he wanted to see contact and he felt there wasn't any. Coach Brown didn't argue.

Can't fault Jake much, though. He absolutely hounded Lin all game, forcing the all-conference candidate into what had to have been his worst offensive performance of the season, game-tying shot notwithstanding.

Watching the highlights of the game on WCAX TV news at a friend's house before the Super Bowl we both agreed that Jake clearly fouled Lin just before he crossed mid-court.  A second attempt to foul as he was about to shoot didn't appear to involve contact.  Not that it matters with Middlebury winning in OT

I agree completely. So many people place such emphasis on points and stats that they miss things like making the right pass, setting a great screen, or shutting down your man...

Midd's on break for a week after a four week Winter Term.

This brings up an interesting (if hardly earth shattering) competitive element: whether or not school is in session when your NESCAC team plays on the road. We played Bates when students were still on holiday break. There's a huge difference in the tiny Bates gym when their student section is packed and in full voice. I am always glad when Midd plays away during a vacation period, especially at schools whose students turn out. From Dec. 1 to Feb 1 there are many weeks of school vacation and lots of NESCAC games.
