A few random thoughts ---

1. In Williams' win over amHerst in Chandler in January, the Ephs trailed by 8 at 3:40; 6 at 2:44, 4 at 1:20, 1 at 1:05, 4 at :48, 2 at :32 and, of course, won by 1 on the three-pointer at the buzzer. Watching the video enables one to see the big plays (and not so big) by a variety of players on both sides ....

2. How does amHerst have 8 sophomores (including multiple "bigs"  in that class on its roster)?

3. Does it seem to anyone else that today's NESCAC players miss more play due to injuries than, say, in past decades? If so, why (weight training, year-round competition, specialization) ?

Here we go again....due to weather conditions....Amherst is again closed for the day!  Could state in my days...it was never closed that I can remember. :)
Forecast is very cold winds and poor visibility on the roads, etc.  Amherst has a game on Tuesday...scheduled at RIC...the team that beat Tufts when both the twin towers were available and the game was in Medford.  Hope it will be held since it will be a good test for the team.
Agreed if it is a danger to the students, close the school.  How does it impact team practices when a school is closed?  Aware that last time, the gym area was made available for sleeping in case of power outage...backup generators.  Not all buildings...in particular some dorms, etc do not have backup power generators.

It's winter in New England: it snows.

It is a complicating factor with winter teams (along with illness, even more significant, this time of year) in this part of the country. I coached a little high school basketball and gave all my players winter hats, toques, and made them wear them at the risk of running suicides if they didn't. I believed that going outside with wet hair after showering caused colds, and as many games were lost to sickness in winter as injury. Probably an old wives' tale.

The hysteria attached to winter weather (not you here, amh63 - I'm speaking generally about the media) drives me nuts. I do think erring on the side of caution, not putting teams on the road in storms, even in a big ol' bus, is best, though I remember some hairy bus rides in the old days. Middlebury is getting about a foot of snow today.

By the way, are those quarter-court, half-court, three-quarter-court, full court sprints still called "suicides," or has that term gone by the board? Probably should have.

1. The wet hair thing is an old wives tale and 2. I still call them suicides, my boys call them sprints.

Most gracious of you 7express...plus K.  What are the chances that all if any of the games will be played?
It is ironic that the Maine team near Canada that played MIddlebury...the one that traveled a crazy route to get to Pepin and the one that 7 one time could not figure how to get to for a LEC game...yes that one is predicted to be the least impacted.  Only a few inches. Even the snow cannot figure how to reach the town. :)

I think most will get played.  The weather for the most part has left the area, it's just a matter of people getting their cars out.

Not up here in Vermont. Still coming down hard. Though still plenty of time to get the roads cleared before tomorrow night.

I am with amh63, those kids ar going soft!  ;-)

Attending Bates v UMF tonight if it is played, will have a report up.

It's the faculty and staff that have grown soft or rather now live too far from campus, residing in Hill towns and such at some distance.

Will Coach Hixson follow in the footsteps of Coaches Whalen, Sheehy, and others by renewing his effort from several years ago to move into the athletic director position at amHerst? Stay turned ....

Like Russ Reilly at Middlebury - basketball coach 1979-97, AD 1997-2006.

In retirement, Russ serves as an Assistant to his successor, Jeff Brown. A Bates grad, he's in the Bates athletic hall of fame.

Things look good for the games to proceed.  Snow on the Amherst campus looks pretty high....via video.  Did anyone notice that the Conn college game at Mitchell has a 5:30PM start?  Need to verify on the CaC scoreboard.
Coach Hixon only has his mind on the team.....is enjoying his "work".  The AD job is a bundle of stress.  Just my opinion.

JEFFFAN

Hixon wanted the job the last time around - maybe 10-12 years ago, when he would have been 50-52 years old.  Hard pressed to believe that at his current age he wants that job now.

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

He wouldn't be the only '76 grad and former Amherst student-athlete to be an AD...
