I don't remember any negative plays by the chief executioner of the four corners - Phil Ford; he was flawless.

Coach Smith is a legend, but I believe he ran the 4 Corners for one reason, and one reason only, to win games.  While it was frustrating to watch, it worked and was within the rules.  I sat in many games at Cole Field house with Terps chasing Tar Heels all over the court until the inevitable foul took place.  Phil Ford was the master of running it.  One in a long long line of great Tar Heels under Smith.

I haven't posted much this year, although I've been pretty good about reading the board.

I just wanted to ask if anyone would be kind enough to catch me up on the key early recruits that the board knows about. I know of Joe Schneider for Amherst, but that's about it.

Sincere thanks in advance. I'm looking forward to the next few weekends!

I know that folks at Middlebury are very excited about Zach Baines:

I posted this quite awhile back, and so far as I know there have been no additions in terms of announced ED recruits.  Obviously a lot more still to come in the RD round.  (Connor O'Neil is no longer listed as a Bowdoin recruit on the NERR site, so I'm not sure what the story is with him).  The class of 2018 looks, based on early returns, to be one of the weakest in recent NESCAC history ... McCarthy is the only guy making a consistent, major impact on a contending team, although guys some other guys have shown flashes of promise.  The class of 2019 will be a VERY different story I expect, based on announcements-to-date plus rumors of other guys to come in the RD round.

Amherst: 6'10 Joe Schneider (certainly the biggest-name recruit of the ED round)
Middlebury: 6'5 Zach Baines (another big-time prospect), 6'7 Eric McCord, 6'2 Hilal Daleh
Bates: 6'6 Nick Lynch
Hamilton: 6'5 Michael Grassley
Bowdoin: 6'5 Jack Simonds, 6'6 Hugh O'Neil, 5'11 Jack Bors
Williams: 6'1 Bobby Casey, 6'6 Miye Oni, 6'9 Jake Porath
Colby: 6'4 Steven Daley
Trinity: 6'5 Connor Merinder

Schneider and Baines appear to be the biggest gets of this round, both sound like major steals who are sure-thing impact recruits at the D3 level.  For Williams, Bobby Casey looks like he could be a baby-faced assassin ... he is small and slight-looking, but just last week he nailed 10 threes in a high school game, and he has some very flashy handle.  Oyi has also been getting a lot of notice recently as a potential steal for Williams, a late-grower who has had many big games of late, including a recent 23 point, 21 board, 6 assist game.  Steven Daley should provide Colby with a badly-needed wing athlete who can provide a spark off the bench next year.  Nick Lynch is Peter's brother, so I anticipate another rugged, physical interior player with nice skills.

(Note edited to add Bors and eliminate C. O'Neil ... sounds like Bowdoin has a nice group coming in, they need impact guys in a big way after losing Hurley/Swords/Pieri to graduation).

I just noticed that Connor O'Neil's designation as being committed to Bowdoin as been removed from NERR.  He remains uncommitted.

Yes I think there was a mix up in names.  My understanding is that Hugh O'Neill is a Bowdoin recruit.  The P'bears are also recruiting a PG from CA.  Don't know the name.

Here's some background info on Jack Bors, another Bowdoin recruit
I watched some highlights of him.  Looks very quick and deadly with a left handed jumper (it's amazing how great they look in highlight films!). In a way, reminds me of Brian Hurley.  Sounds like a terrific kid.

Thanks all, much appreciated. +k all around

Coming out of high school, I could have put together a wonderful two and half minute personal highlight film - of course, it would have encompassed every hoop I made my senior year.

The bright spot in Midd's lost Maine weekend was the play of Matt St. Amour: 41 points (14-22 fg, 5-9 from three, 8-10 ft) with 9 boards. A nice weekend's work. He's fun to watch, constant motion: glad his shot is coming around.

Midd has generally played well at home - an upset against the Bantams and Jeffs is not outside the realm of possibility.

Nescac1, great insight as always. All the games this weekend should be very competitive.

With all good recruiting talks we also need to realize who will be gone next year. Here is a look at what teams have returning, the list includes returning players that are averaging 10+ in mpg and ppg this season.

AMH - Green/Racy/George
BAT - Boornazian/Marcus Delpeche
BOW - Hausman
COL - Hudnut/Jann/Westman/Wilson (they will most likely return Pat Stewart who averaged 11ppg as a sophomore)
CON - Pavlin/Tonhazy (who knows if they will be back next year)
HAM - Santos
MID - St. Amour
TRI - Starks/Ogundeko
TUF - Smith/Palleschi/Sabety
WES - Davis/Kuo/Mackey/Rafferty
WIL - Aronowitz

Announcer at Middlebury/Lyndon State "scrimmage" states that Mid has not lost to an in-state rival in the past 4-5 years. The Panthers are down 43-39 at the half. I am willing to consider making a donation to help Mid travel to find some worthy home and home opponents, rather than continue a Division IV  pre-Christmas and out-of-conference schedule. Perhaps the intramural leagues at Dartmouth, University of Vermont, etc., would be willing to provide the opposition ....

NEhoops - interesting list.

While I want to focus on this season - as I hope there's still many games to play - there's no denying that Bowdoin will have to replace a lot of scoring next year.  However, Bowdoin's scoring stats are a bit skewed and shouldn't be taken at face value.

For instance, Matt Palecki is averaging 9.4 ppg (just below your cut off) but he wasn't starting consistently until January.  Palecki's scoring average since January is 11.9 ppg and in the last 5 games he has scored 12.4 ppg.   FY Liam Farley has seen more playing time since January and has scored ~6.5 ppg in 5 of the last 6 games.

NEhoops.....somehow your list seems to left off the potential ROY....Johnny MaCarthy..who has the time....and maybe the points.  Whatever criteria one picks such as assists,  rebounds, etc. there maybe other ways to look at the potential of next year's teams.  In the case of Amherst, everyone returns except for Levine...the only senior.  In fact, the starting team for the LJs returns... If one consider the combo of Dawson/Berman at PG.
Too early...too much of this season remains, imo, to think about next season.
