PLAYOFF PICTURE

So her what I can garner, let me know if anyone can sprad other insight.

BOWDOIN v TUFTS

Winner locks up a home game between #2 and #4 seed, loser goes on the road as #5 or #6.

COLBY v BATES

Bates locks up a home game with a win, a loss could man they go on the road as #5 or #6 after the tie break spin cycle.

Colby lock up a playoff road game with a win and risk missing the tournament if they lose with a Midd win on tie break?

HAMILTON v CONN

Basement battle, though sure it means a lot to the players and coaches involved.

WESLEYAN v WILLIAMS

Williams could jump to a home game with a win and losses above them by Bates, Amherst, Bowdoin or Tufts?  Go on the road with a loss.

AMHERST v MIDD

Amherst lock up a home game with a win, could have locked up anyway pending Saturday results with this gam a day later.  Maybe slip to #5 with a loss and other results going against them?

Midd could be eliminated before game if  Wesleyan win, get in they win and Wes lose, or maybe on there way if Colby and Wes lose?  Could be some nervous eves on this game from Wesleyan.

I understand that it's been a disappointing year for Middlebury, particularly given their talent, coaching, and the fact they continue to play hard in adversity. I am not a Midd fan and therefore not offering an excuse by asking the (dumb?) question, does being the designated Friday-Sunday player put that team at a competitive disadvantage?  Sorry if it's a naive question from an old football player, but I have to believe that it could be a difficult adjustment.

It's not optimal, that's for sure, but I have no idea if it puts a team at a disadvantage. What I believe it does, though, is disrupts the "normal" rhythym of the weekend for the students. Normally they play Friday night/Saturday afternoon and then are in the library on Sunday. I'm sure the adjustment is to get into the library on Saturday, though I'm sure we all can agree that there are distractions with this option!

I know it's not easy on the parents, either, especially those who travel longer distances to see their sons play.

If Colby and Wesleyan lose and Middlebury wins, Colby is in because they beat Wesleyan and Middlebury so in the case of a three way tiebreaker they win that and get the 7 seed. Midd gets 8 seed because they won head to head against Wesleyan.

Home-court is a little more complicated. If any of Amherst, Bates, Bowdoin, and Tufts wins then they get homecourt because Bowdoin-Tufts play each other so there can only be three 7-3 teams. If Bates or Amherst loses then it will come down to tiebreakers. Here is the rundown of the five teams head to head records for any tie-breaker scenarios.

Amherst: 2-2 (Beat Bowdoin and Bates, lost to Williams and Tufts)
Bowdoin: 2-1 (Beat Bates and Williams, lost to Amherst, and has to play Tufts)
Bates: 2-2 (Beat Tufts and Williams, lost to Amherst and Bowdoin)
Tufts: 1-2 (Beat Amherst, lost to Bates and Williams)
Williams: 2-2 (Beat Amherst and Tufts, lost to Bates and Bowdoin)

So hypothetical, if Bowdoin beats Tufts, Williams wins, and Amherst and Bates both lose, then Trinity, Bowdoin, Williams (2-1 against Amherst, Bates, and Tufts), and Bates (2-1 against Amherst, Williams, and Tufts) get home games. Just one of many possible scenarios that can shake out.

Thanks NothingbutNescac

Still a bit of a headache for me, but that clears up a good portion.  Pretty exciting last day, just took on the women's side and seems pretty clear cut over there.

Wow, the interests of Middlebury and Williams align perfectly! Midd needs the Ephs to beat Wesleyan, and Williams needs The Panthers to beat Amherst. Go Middlebury! Go Williams!

polbear73

The complexity of figuring out these probabilities is worthy of a NESCAC message board.

toad22

Also, go Bowdoin! Williams needs the Polar Bears to beat the Tufts.

polbear73

Bowdoin and Tufts tied at 26 at half.

P'bearfan

Bowdoin defeats Tufts 57-54 in a real defensive battle.

Hurley hit 2 free throws with 3.1 seconds to stretch Bowdoin's lead to 3. Tufts pushed the ball up the court but Neil Fuller stole a pass to clinch the win as time expired.

A great weekend of basketball in Brunswick.

GoUBears!!

Geez- Colby not providing video today- a big game for both teams. I thought the home teams provided video of all conference games at the least.

Yep, I'm very disappointed by this as well.  I'm confused since they're apart of the NSN.

Looks like Midd's season is ending and Williams is going to drop all the way down to the seventh seed (I believe) due to losing the tie-breaker with Wesleyan.  Wesleyan just taking it to Williams on both ends and Williams once again can't buy a three -- Aronowitz and Wohl had back-to-back threes that rolled completely in and out, which pretty much sums up the shooting for Williams.  But the problems go much deeper -- can't stop Wesleyan inside, can't keep Wesleyan off the boards, can't get a loose ball, no rhythm, and the shooting woes have clearly gotten in the team's head.  Wesleyan meanwhile playing with energy, poise and confidence.  Just one of those days where nothing goes right for Williams, and Wesleyan looks like the far superior team tonight.

Now the Colby Live Stats seem to be down after being on in the 1st halt- what a shame.

I was thinking maybe they were doing their Senior Day festivities during halftime but this is taking way too long.  No tweets or any other kind of information is coming out of Waterville.  The womens game is coming down to the wire, though.

Not a good day for Williams men's basketball in any respect today. Haven't seen as poor a performance in Chandler in more than two decades. Time to wipe the slate clean and start re-building for 2016-2017....key will be the quality of recruiting for next year and the year after ....as well as the amount of effort to improve in the off-season by the current players. Culture will be important ....

Good luck and health to all....
