Over/under on how many teams stay within 10 of Amherst in the regular season: 2

eclinchy

I'll take the over.

Brandeis, Tufts, and Bates.

(And then Tufts again in the NESCAC championship game.)

met_fan

All three of those teams are capable of it, but I have to think one of them will have an off-game and go down big

Red1

Bates just finished a relaxing 76-56 win over UMF.  The Bobcats finished the 2006 portion of their season undefeated at 8-0 and ranked 17th in the country.

I'm going to pick over on the teams within 10pts. of Amherst, but not exactly the same teams as eclinchy.  I'll pick Bates, Tufts, Bates in the Nescac title game, and whoever it is this year that gets by Amhersts (in game the Jeff's obviously should have won ;) late in the NCAA tournament.

Cheers,
Red1

Im on the over also I think that Trinity will also finish within 10 the Amherst Trinity games are always good ones

Little precurser to the MIT game. B Jones with a solid put-back jam over an engineer. Olson and Salerno putting together solid PG statisics. Good to see #24 having a day....so fundamentally sound he is.

Brandeis on Saturday. Oh man.

"Woaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh       Woooooooooooooaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"

mrmike88

WAMH has the Amherst-Brandeis game this Saturday.  Tip-off is at 3, pre-game about ten minutes before that.  http://wamh.amherst.edu/

Two deep, dominant teams matching up.  We'll have a good idea where each stands after this one...

I'll take the over on the Amherst question.  The beauty of sports is that you never know who will have the hot hand, so I wouldn't be surprised to see more than a few close games.

Friar T

Being a holy man, I hate to preach to you all, but it seems I must...

Is anyone else looking at these Amherst box scores like they can't be real? The numbers that some of their players are putting up are absurd. They have just two players averaging double-figures, one of which is getting just 15 minutes of burn per game (Fletch is a scoring machine), yet they're burying people.

The most recent display of their potential is possibly the most impressive. Despite two of their top scorers (D Wheeler and Dolph The Legend) going a combined 1-13 from the floor, and Walters missing a season-high four shots (scoring machine, I'm telling you), they still managed to drub their opponents by 32. This, mind you, is the same team it took highly-touted Tufts three overtimes to beat!!! And it's not like MIT played out-of-this-world against the Jumbos (35.1% from the floor)...

How many teams will play the Jeffs within 10...? Let's ask the real question: Who's gonna play them within 20?

I agree that the talents of Jake "Pillsbury" Weitzen and Zak Ray (to name a few) have the potential to cause the Jeffs some trouble, but any NESCAC team stopping Amherst will be like trying to plug a leaky Hoover Dam. You put your fingers and toes in the holes, but there's no way you can stop them all...

I've caught the last two Amherst vs. Brandeis bouts and they've both been amazing to watch. DeLuca is an animal, Coppens is as hard-nosed as they come and their guards are very talented and physical. I'm sorry I'll be missing this one as it should be one to remember.

Walzy, big ups to Bausky. He's gonna be so nasty.

Amen...

Friar T

One thing I forgot to mention...

"Good to see #24 having a day....so fundamentally sound he is."

Who are you Walzy? Yoda...?

See you all in church...

Dr E. Spengler

What y'all thought y'all wasn't gon' see me?

Right on schedule it's the good Dr. Spengs to drop some SERIOUS knowledge.  Just as I did for you all last year when I clued you into the most dangerous backcourt coming off a bench ever  (Salerno/Zalaski)  I will talk again about some hidden gems.  For those who doubt my ability we see what Salerno adds to this team this year.  And we'll soon be carving KBalls face into the Mount Rushmore of Basketball Coaches somewhere in between Rupp and Smith.

TWO WORDS: Marcus Bradley

Peace and Love,
Spengler

P.S.  Next person who speaks ill of a one Dan O'Shea will feel the wrath of Polycarp

P.P.S  Someone guard T-MAC...

P.P.P.S WORK IS WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

God, could we have a more awfull succession of post than those last three.
i mean what the Dr. said was just moronic and the Friar saying who will stay within 20 of Amherst.  I mean I will grant you that they are a verry good team probably the best in the NE but to say that the top teams in the NE cant hang within 20 of them is just stupid.  Im also not happy with the Weitzen nickname.  That "Pilsbury" ate Amherst up last year had two excelent games against them.

eclinchy

I think Jake "Reigning NESCAC Player of the Week" Weitzen is a more appropriate nickname.  But that's just me.

JeffRookie2

I dont know, I think by the time Amherst gets to Tufts the Jumbos will have figured it out, but if they played right now the Jeffs would probably win by 20. Look at what happened last year. The first time they met the Jeffs smoked the Jumbos, but then the next two were super tight. Weitzen did have some really good games against Amherst.

Prediction:

Amherst 85
Brandeis 73

eclinchy

My prediction is a bit closer, but you guys still win.  79-74 'Herst.

By the way, Tufts beats Clark 87-79.  I don't like my Tufts-Clark games that close. :(
