Easily the best tweet of the season!!

Got to see the last 8-9mins of the game on video! Yippee. :) amherst up by 30 and Tufts starts putting in their shooters in the last 5 minutes as the lead goes down  to 26 with 3's from Tufts.  Amherst starts putting in its bench.....jumbos missing shots and not much defense.
Solid win for Amherst...good play all around....led by Green and George.
Coach Hixon gives "hug" to Ben Ferris who played well in the game...well deserving senior who had a mixed season but went out strong.
Even forgot the score....does not matter....a win is a win in Cousen.

Yes a little preaching to the choir here....and a time to cross one's fingers or stroke a rabbit foot .

I don't own any rabbit's feet but I will be wearing the same black and white herringbone sport coat that I wore this past weekend for every remaining game! ;)

GoUBears!
Please do P'bear. I will spring for the dry cleaning after the season.

Fear the sport coat!!

With about 15 seconds left in the game and a 1 point lead and the ball Trinity gets a shot clock violation. Unbeliveable

Colby inbounds the ball and drives to the basket for a layup that misses.  No foul called which looked very questionable.  Colby fouls and Trinity hits both free throws.  Colby down 3 with 3 seconds and throws the ball away trying to cross mid court.

Trinity wins by 3.

On to Hartford!

GoUBears!!

Wesleyan upsets Bates: 66-59.

First loss for Bates at home this season (and with a tremendous home crowd).  Really big upset.

Bowdoin will now have to get ready for a tough Wesleyan team.

A weird fact in this strange season: Bowdoin goes to Hartford as the second seed but having lost to each of the other semi finalist.

Great win for Amherst today!  Unfortunately, like everyone else, I could only watch the last few minutes of the game via the webcast.

After our very, very poor performance against the Jumbos earlier in the season, I had no doubt that we would be ready to play.  Boy did Amherst ever erase that bitter memory today.  We were totally dominant today, highlighted by a 13-19 effort from 3 and (perhaps even more shocking, for us) a 17-19 mark at the charity stripe.  Not going to lose too many games when you shoot like that!

Connor Green continues his outstanding run of play. 29 points on 10-16 shooting (an astonishing 6-8 from distance).

Next up, Bowdoin.  I have to think that if we beat an opponent of that quality, our NCAA Tourney hopes will be secure.  At this point we probably have a shot either way, but who knows.

Anyway, congrats to Hix & Co. on an outstanding effort!

Just read that Bowdoin will play Amherst.  I'm confused.

In most tournaments, the #1 seed (if they win) plays the winner of the #4v#5 matchup and the #2 seed plays the winner of the #3vs#6 game.  That would have Bowdoin playing Wesleyan and Trinity playing Amherst.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

polbear73

As the tournament is re-seeded, low plays highest remaining. Trinity would play Wesleyan, and Bowdoin plays Amherst.

Because of the issues with the Tufts webcast I was able to catch a fair bit of the Bowdoin-Williams game.

You never want to put too much weight on one game, but I think this game put a clear end to Wohl's PoY chances.  He just couldn't get anything going on offense today.  Strangely, in a game where so many fouls were called, Wohl could hardly get himself to the line.  I thought there were more than a few instances when he seemed to draw contact that was sufficient in other contexts for a foul, but no dice.

On the other end, Hausman of course continues to be outstanding.  How does he keep doing it?  I am curious, who was the last person to win PoY in their first year as a starter?  Hausman has to be the clear favorite.  I think only Green can catch him at this point.  Would probably require a scintillating effort next weekend.

As mentioned, Swords and HRL were also both sensational today.

My revised ballot:

First Team: Hausman, Green, Wohl, Starks, Palleschi

Second Team: Safford, Boornazian, Swords, HRL, Jann

Congrats to the Lord Jeffs on their opening 'CAC Tournament  win.  Green et al playing well as the season winds down bodes well for Amherst and another 'CAC Championship.  GO JEFFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was at Tufts Amherst game so thought would fill in some of the blanks as people said the video did not work
Sabety was wearing a brace on his knee and did play and was clearly limited- I assume Doctor's gave him the go ahead but I wonder if he would need further medical/therapy
Tufts opened in a zone defense and stayed in a zone for almost entire game-Connor Green his a few deep threes and then Nabotoff and McCarthy hit 3's
Racy came in off the bench and hit a few threes
Berman did a reasonable job and when Dawson came in with his athleticism he just beat the Tufts players covering him
Ben Ferris hit a few shots and Amherst did not box out and fumbled the ball several times to give up some points
David George was very good defensively and hit several dunks and I believe all of his foul shots -which there were many
It feels like if Amherst other players besides Green get going offensively they are an offensive force and would be difficult to beat
That was the problem at Middlebury other players had a bad game.
In addition to George, Green and McCarthy are very good rebounders.
I thought they played better than the game I saw when they played Bowdoin
Connor Green has become much determined to get going early on in games
One advantage for Amherst next week is that Trinity is not too far away which would prevent being road weary

amh63

ECSU....thanks for the support! See that your Boys are playing well too!  How can Lindo let someone else out rebound him? ;)?  Seems your big scorer is still questionable.  Just win enough so that in the post season he can contribute...plus K and keep warm.
I rather have Amherst meet Trinity in the next game...get back at the Bantams at home when the team is playing well.  Let Swords calm down a bit for the finals..is my thinking. :)
In truth...it does not matter...play well and one advance at this time of the year.
More rabbit foot rubbing!  P'Bear...need a change of covering

amh63,
Thanks,
As with 3 pt sharpshooter Brian Salzillo last year, playmaker Tre Preston is now injured, not the best of luck for post season play over the last 2 years???.  Coach Geitner will now have to squeeze the best out of his remaining squad to win the LEC and make a decent showing in the NCAA.  Oh well!!!
+k back at you!!
