Who played well for the Bos.  It looks as if they are scoring alot of points but just are still have problems with their defense

The Franchise

as a long time reader and a first time poseter, i'm proud to announce that Midd came back from a 17 point deficit to deat Hamilton.  Midd 83- Hamilton 81... i think that was the final (i was listening to the game on the radio and was too ecstatic that they held on to know for sure that was indeed the final score). i do know that they won by 2, and they finally put all the pieces together for the big win which they are capable of.  if midd can keep their balanced, inside-outside attack heading into the nescac, they may be able to knock off a few surprises.

84-74 is the final from LeFrak.  I guessed Brandeis' exact point total.  I'll take it. :)

I didn't go to Worcester today, but I've looked over the box score pretty closely.

-Shep sat out today (I assume he's resting his right ankle... he hurt it pretty bad against Keene and played hurt)

-Black had a solid game in his first start (11 points, 6 assists)

-Double-double for Kumf (17 and 11)

-O'Keefe leads all scorers with 18 (off day for Weitzen and Pierce, only 11 and 8 respectively)

-Beyel scored 9 in just 14 minutes (can you say Rookie of the Year?)

-Interesting team stats - first, they stopped shooting the three so much (Wednesday they were 8 for 30; today, 4 for 7), and second, they outrebounded them big time (44 to 29).  Kumf, Jake and Fitz were the game's top three rebounders... all of them had more than Clark's leading rebounder.

The Franchise

my apologies, the final to was actually midd 86- hamliton 84

Whew, good game from LeFrak. Both Wheeler and McLaughlin had tough games for the Jeffs. The reserves stepped it up big time though. Fletcher Walters, Kevin Hopkins and Brian Baskauskas all had huge games. Hopkins especially played great on both ends of the floor, coming up with numerous blocks and some key baskets including a thunderous jam on a putback of the glass. DeLuca did a great job keeping the Judges in the game in the second half and finished with 30 points. He did struggle in the first half, and the Judges as a whole only shot 20% in the first period. They trailed by 14 at the break and could never get back within 7.

Wow, Walzy I just saw your prediction. That's amazing. They should ask you what the final will be and not bother playing the games.

Prediction:

Amherst 85
Brandeis 73

Final:

Amherst 84
Brandeis 74

"Woooooooooaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh          Woooooaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh"

Game went like this:
O'Shea set the tempo for Amherst, with Olson feeding him the ball for 6 and 6 in the first 10 minutes -- which were evenly matched. Amherst then sprung off to an 18 point lead behind bench play from Hopkins, Walters and Baskauskis. 14 lead at the half.

Steve Deluca won the second half with 26+ points by himself...but the strong play of Hopkins, Walters and Baskauskis continued and lifted the Jeffs.

It was great to see those 3 and Salerno pick up guys like Wheeler and Coulibaly who just had off shooting nights. Makes us very dangerous and deep. Also, basically without Brandon Jones, who picked up 2 fouls in a minute in the first half. One junior girl at Amherst tried to purchase him in class because she confused him for a pogo stick.

Brandeis is very GOOD. On the level of Tufts and Trinity OF LAST YEAR. Cannot compare to this year yet. Deluca finished with 30+ and Kwame went to work in the 2nd half as well.

It was good to see some life in LeFrak for once this semester.

Fluff section:

Hopkins with the nicest dunk. It was       re   dic   u   luss.
Crotty, Coffin, and Wesleyan coach were in attendence.
Thanks for the looks JeffRookie.
Amherst bench points 45+
Olson 9 Dimes

Wow, Middlebury has really had a lot of production from their inside guys. Evan Thompson and Aaron Smith are each averaging double-digit scoring figures. Andrew Harris has also played well. I guess the Panthers aren't just Ben Rudin anymore.

Speaking of people visiting LeFrak, apparantly Bob Ryan from the Boston Globe was there last Friday.

I like the "fluff" section you added.  So far that is one team within 10 of Amherst.  According to the over under I need two more.  Any word on the Wit game to see if Amherst can take over that No 1 spot.  Good to see that Tufts can win without its team captain and floor general Shep.

eclinchy

I agree about Shep.  This is going to be a very interesting team next year with Black at the point.

Wooster-Wittenberg is a night game.  7:30 I believe.

Not much more to add from LeFrak, except to note how much of a factor Hopkins seemed to be on defense today.  His presence seemed to change Brandeis' approach - not only did he log a few blocks, he deflected a few passes, and he also made a lot of guys in the lane change their minds about even taking a shot.  If he can keep his defense at this level it'll help big time.

mrmike88

Wooster won in a close one, 68-65, in case anyone cares.

colby beats bowdoin by one, 68-67

eclinchy

Can someone explain this Maine thing to me?

Why don't the Colby-Bowdoin-Bates games count toward NESCAC records?  It seems weird that these teams have all played each other, yet they all claim to have records of 0-0.

Congrats to the Ephs on beating Springfield.  Winning at the Pride is solid, considering that they just took Trinity down.  Nice to see the Ephs rebound from their awful stretch with three straight road wins.   Sounds like the Ephs played some good defense, forcing a lot of turnovers and holding Sprinfield to a low shooting percentage.  On the other hand, twice as many threes as twos just won't get it done in conference unless the Ephs happen to be absolutely red hot, nor will seven foul shots total (four in the last ten seconds).  Looks like, once again, trying to find some offensive balance -- whether it be from Geoghegan, Weisbrot, guards taking it to the hole more aggressively, or Rose playing inside more -- will be the key to competing with what should be, outside of Amherst, a very unpredictable NESCAC season where anyone can beat anyone on any given day.  Seems like Williams has its top seven set, with Weisbrot and Schultz the first two off the bench, but Paulsen will  have to settle pretty soon on about two, max three, more guys for the rotation because it's hard to have any offensive rhythm shuttling 13 guys in and out.
