Yes... women have a 30 second, but added the 10-second violation last season. The men's clock is the longest in the entire game. International, college, high school, NBA... everywhere... men's college basketball has the longest clock - there is NO reason for it anymore.

I would like to see two changes: 30 shot clock and defense gets ball if they initiate a jump ball; regardless of possession arrow.

I don't know if I agree. Initiating a jump ball isn't quite as good as a steal, so why should they get possession? It's kind of like a half-steal, so I think alternating possessions is fair.

Yeah... defense tying the ball up shouldn't automatically get the ball. That's like saying the defender in football gets his hands on the ball as the receiver holds on to it and automatically that is an interception or fumble. Nice tie-up, but you can't change the alternating possession on that one.

FYI....amherst athletic website has a preview of this weekend CAC games.  Emphasis on the Amherst vs Bowdoin match, as expected.  Interesting is that NSN has the broadcast duties vice the Trinity setup.  Old Guy will be happy along. With others...like me :)

Now that you mention it, I seem to remember that last year the conference contracted with NSN to do all of the basketball and hockey tournament games.  Hope that is the case this year.

I agree, a steal allows you to continue the flow of the game without a whistle. However, initiating a jump ball without committing a foul should be rewarded. I call it solid defense.

A WR and defender catching the ball simultaneously happens far less frequently than a tie up. I wouldn't consider it the same thing; especially when possessions change rapidly in basketball compared to football.

If you have not seen what happened after the Vandy/TN game last night, take a look:
http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/12390602/vanderbilt-head-coach-kevin-stallings-apologizes-berating-player-tennessee-game
Kevin Stallings by his own admission lost his cool, handled this wrong and has apologized to everyone at Vanderbilt but the guys selling popcorn at the gym, but I think he also deserves some big time credit for standing up for sportsmanship. Guys have always trash talked, but to me it has gotten way to out of hand recently.  That said, it is never proper for this type of stuff to take place after the game.  No matter how upset you may be, shake hands and move on.  We had a NESCAC coach walk a player into a opposing locker room to apologize for similar bad behaviour after a game this season.  No need to name him.  More important to know that we have some guys with real integrity.
Good luck to everyone this weekend.

Where is the NbN write up on the semi final games?  With all due respect to the Conn College season wrap up, the Friday before two semi-final games needs a good write up from the excellent writers on NbN!!

Does anyone know the seating capacity of the Trinity gym?  I may not be able to arrive to the Bowdoin/Amherst game right until the 4 pm tipoff, and I was trying to get a sense of whether the game might be difficult to get into.  I believe someone posted earlier that the Trinity students were not around this weekend, so I'm guessing there will be plenty of open seats for the game, especially the Bowdoin/Amherst contest.  I think I remember the Trinity gym being pretty large from a seating capacity standpoint.  Anyone have any perspective on the crowd sizes for this weekend?

They are coming we promise. The Amherst-Bowdoin one should be up soon while the Wesleyan-Trinity one will be out a little bit later in the day. Put in a lot of effort to them.

The effort showed as it's a terrific write-up. The prediction at the end threw me, however as I am never comfortable when the team I support is the predicted winner. Looking forward to a great weekend of basketball.

NBN........as the Polar Bear fans stated.....nice writeup!   Do not mind the prediction of the outcome even.....based on your quarter-final predictions about eight pages back!, I will take those odds :).
