Wow, that's a nice step up for Paulsen, Patriot to mid-major.  Much different recruiting profile, etc., and a school that was very recently in the Final Four.

Also interesting is who turned them down: Russell Turner, who chose to stay at UC Irvine. Russell was the DIII Player of the Year at Hampden Sydney in the early '90s.

Nice to see Paulsen rise. He has done really well at Bucknell, and he deserves this.

It is official wrt to Paulsen!  George Mason Un. Website on athletic page has the new HBC featured!

Quotepolbear73, good question about who is going to be the inside presence for Bowdoin next year. Overall we know it will be Hausman's show, but Palecki will be asked to fill the role of top interior scorer. Although not all 7-footers, the list of players that have been able to score consistently form the block/mid post, goes back well beyond six years.

Based on the national reach of the NESCAC, all of the coaches have a network that stretches across the country, some more extensive than others. However, at the end of the day there is not substitute for a head coach being in person to watch a recruit play.

Good points, NEHoops.  I like Palecki's toughness underneath and he brings a strong work ethic as he improved significantly this year.  The Bears will also look to Neil Fuller to stay healthy and for continued development from Jack Hewitt.  It will definitely be Hausman's show, but the rest of the cupboard isn't entirely bare.

Great point!  Things will be different in Brunswick next year but there's more to build on than many suspect.

GoUBears!!

Swords was like a tall warning to the other conference schools to NOT overlook Bowdoin.  Believe the coaches around the conference are keeping a sharp eye on the Polar Bears.
I'm gathering the impression that this season maybe the pattern for many more ahead.  Trinity has returned to the good old days.....Middlebury will not go away nor will Bates, Colby.  Tufts and Hamilton are still building.  Wesleyan got the taste of late season glory days.  If Conn College can remember it's glory days of the last decade, then I will really get white hair or lose my hair.

Nothing to fear, my friend. Bald is beautiful. Or so I like to think.

New Jiffs Fan. Son just committed to Amherst last week. Proud Dad! Meet with HBC Hixon, Coach Matt, Coach Toomey, and most of the team, all a class act. After considering his options it is a perfect fit for my son, for both basketball and academics!

Congratulations to you and your son
I feel good about Amherst today as well, my youngest daughter graduated from there and today she was admitted to Harvard Law School
Being a proud parent is a nice thing.

Glad your son's hard work was rewarded

After decades of disparaging the Directors' Cup and the extraordinary success of Williams College in winning it 17 of 19 years, amHerst should win it this year, as the ljs lead going into the Spring season with several of their strong teams likely to score well in the NCAA tournaments.

Recall my previous posts about the fundamental policy and recruiting shifts made a few years ago at amHerst in order to elevate its competitiveness ....

Some short-lived pushback likely to follow from faculty and alums ....

I wouldn't be so sure, jumpshot.  Amherst, JHU, Williams and Wash U. are all very, very close in the Director's Cup standings, and all have excellent Spring sports programs.  Williams always does really well in the Spring and has three title-contending squads (women's golf, tennis, and crew) who should score loads of points.  Williams will likely need a bit more out of its team sports in the Spring, however, to come from behind -- this is probably the weakest overall year I've seen for team sports (in particular men's team sports) at Williams, with only women's soccer being a really dominant team, and men's football, basketball, and soccer all having uncharacteristic seasons by historic standards.  Williams' men's lacrosse and women's softball teams are, however, off to very strong starts.  The Ephs also could use some more points out of the track and field programs in the Spring.

One of the nice things about the new Amherst recruit Victor is that he has a 4.0 GPA and is number one in his high school class as per the tweet below from his AAU coach

Jayhawk.....thanks for the info wrt to Victor.  Watching the videos, could not accurately gage his size/height.  Seems that down the road, Amherst may end up with a tall backcourt...lots of tall ball handlers.
Is it possible that the new poster...FLJeffs...is the father of Victor?

Forgot....congrats to you and your daughter!  Following a sort of Jeffs "tradition".   In my days, many Amherst grads seeking a future in the law profession would head towards Harvard, Yale, U. Of Chicago law Schools.  In the 60's, Harvard Law School would put a limit on the number of Amherst Grads that it would take....my classmates would thus compete among themselves for the spots..or be directed to Yale, etc.....the preferred school of the Amherst Law School adviser.

With regards to the Director's Cup chatter....the announcement on the CAC website cited the more important fact....that all the CAC schools scored well after the Winter Games!

Last comment.....the Amherst Admission office provided me with the Admission numbers for the Class of 2019..and asked if I could help with the "yield process".  Seems that based on the number of applications received...well over 8 thousand, class size goal and number of total admits....the yield will again be less than 14 percent.  Glad that FL Jeffs' son made his choice!
Amherst alums and faculty are pleased that Amherst remains a school of choice for top students...imo.
