Holy s . . . smokes! I would not be kicking sand in his face (period reference).

The most impressive thing is his +4.5 inch vertical!!  DR was fairly athletic to begin with.  With this type of improvement he may be a real threat to take it to the rim - even in D1.

Immediately went to this in my head

Old Guy.....remember the....period reference.  However, it was an advertisement for What product?

Add my kudos to Conn for its preview of a promising team.  Been a long time since Conn won a title....this board was started by a Conn fan.  It would be nice to hear from a present day Conn supporter.
However, a little "cold water" on the roster provided.  One of the freshmen listed does not have a jersey number.  Started counting players and reached 18.  What are the CAC and NCAA limits on a traveling squad during the season and post season?....16 or 15?....larger?

Don't recall the precise name of the product, but it was Charles Atlas promising to turn '98-pound weaklings' into 'real men'.

Easy. Charles Atlas product of some kind or other to make one strong, no longer a skinny weakling.

"Dynamic Tension"? I remember a high school classmate talking about it, but I may be thinking of a different bodybuilder's product.

Former Trinity player Colin Tabb '02 has been selected as the head coach at WNEC, according to the article posted last page. He was before my time but I heard he was tremendous. Anyone remember his playing days at Trinity?

Congrats to Colin Tabb.  He was fantastic, one of the few D1 transfers into NESCAC who actually lived up to the hype, an incredibly athletic wing player who as a senior was unstoppable.  On a NESCAC all-aughts team, he is an easy pick along with Coffin, Crotty and Olson (that fifth spot would be the tough one -- Zieja, Bedford, Rhoten or Leo Jones, take your pick).

I would like to officially apologize for starting an Amherst-Williams debate last week.  It appears that the entire train schedule got stopped up - my bad.

So start talking, folks!

JeffFan...nice apology...Plus K.  save your energy when it is tourney time :)....more fun then.
Guess this weekend is the start of Practice!.....maybe will get a roster update.
Only visited the men and women BB tent at Pratt field during setup.  First time ever for a joint tent, I believe.  Saw the coaches and some players around the field and in the stands.
Did hear that the Trinity soph WR...Spears....brother of CB Spears of Amherst will try out for the Bantums basketball squad.  The younger Spears, like his older brother, was quite a player in prep school.  Point guard position.  His grandfather was the source. :)

Williams has its roster posted -- no surprises.  Only nine returning players, and of those nine, only four played major minutes last year, while three others saw sporadic action.  The six anticipated frosh are all on the roster, and they certainly bring size ... average height of 6'7 among the six.  It will certainly be an unpredictable beginning of the season for the Ephs, with lots of new faces, especially up front.

No doubt that the frosh bring some much needed height but I'm curious as to how much they will be able to contribute this year (based on nothing more than the roster info).  At 6'-10" and only 215 lbs,  6'-9" and only 210 lbs and 6'-8" and only 205 lbs,  I'm not sure either Kempton, Porath or Soto will be able to hold their own in the paint - at least not for long stretches.

Give them a year or two and they're likely to be a fearsome front line but it looks like they need some time in the weight room.  Of course they could be all be very athletic or great outside shooters but what Williams lacked last year was an inside presence and rebounding.

Soto is ready to play. He looks very mature and pretty tough - something we do not see a lot at Williams. Porath and Kempton may need a little time, but they could end up being very good. I like the whole freshman class.

The Williams roster certainly underscores the Ephs' ability to recruit on a national basis....3 kids from Ohio, 2 from Indiana, 2 from California, plus kids from Idaho, Tennessee and Washington state.

At the same time I find it interesting that the Williams roster does not include any players from New England or New York/New Jersey, and none from the New England prep ranks, arguably the deepest collection of high school basketball talent in the country, and right in its backyard (although Williams has a kid from St. Sebastian's coming in next year).

Even though there is a lot of talent in its backyard Williams historically has not depended on New England kids to stock its roster, unlike many other NESCAC schools (last year's Amherst roster included 6 New England kids, and 5 from the New England/MAPLS prep ranks). Even Tufts, whose ability to recruit athletes on a national basis may be second to Williams in the NESCAC (in large part due to its Boston location) had new 6 England kids, 4 NY/NJ kids and 3 NE prep kids on last year's roster.

Notwithstanding the geographic diversity of the upcoming Williams roster, I would hesitate to draw any conclusions from this small sample set, however, as there are a lot of variables involved, from coach's preferences to alumni networks to the fact that it may be a lot easier to recruit outside of New England given the competition for New England kids among Ivies, NESCAC, NEWMAC and Patriot league schools.  And for all I know Williams may have recruited a lot of New England kids but lost them to Ivies or other NESCAC schools. Just an observation on a slow Saturday morning waiting for the football games to begin....
