Hausman is averaging 31.3 ppg through three games ... pretty incredible pace and I'm not sure he will slow down all THAT much (and considering his offensive efficiency, there is no reason really for him to do so).  I am fairly certain no one has averaged 30 ppg, or even come all that close, since I've followed NESCAC baskeball.  Does anyone know the single-season points, and scoring average, records in the conference?  I think Colby's John Hancock put up some astronomical scoring stats his last few years, maybe in that range ...

So I checked Colby's record book: in 1988 (his sophomore year!) Hancock totalled 853 points and averaged 31.6.  I don't see those stats being topped anytime soon.  But I think Hausman could end up scoring the most we've seen since Hancock's era.

That would be Matt Hancock, a Mainer. John went to Harvard not Colby and died about 100 years before basketball was invented  ;)

Yes but given his flashy signature it would have been interesting to see him ball!

After the WBB game at Amherst, I went around the conference...peaking in on the men games.
Since no one has reported it....MIT won a tight one over Tufts in Medford.  It was not so tight as the score, IMO.  MIT had a nice lead but the Jumbos came roaring back in the last 5 minutes.  The ending was strange to me...as the last 40 plus seconds took over five minutes to play..it seems.  MIT leading by 3, Tufts' coaches took two straight TO and MIT took 1.  I found it strange when coaches know the time to the tenth of a second...on the Jumbo's fine scoreboard overhead...but constantly looking up at the scoreboard during a TO.  One sequence...Tufts' HC looks up at the clock...goes to the huddle to give directions..assist coaches keep checking the clock as if might change.... Players goes to the floor to play...HC looks at the clock overhead; at the players on the floor;looks up again and calls another timeout.  Must also point out that the webcast scoreboard was blank and there was no announcer...therefore noticed the head bobbing.  Tufts got a chance to tie the score with about 3
seconds to go and behind by 3 points.  After another TO, the Jumbo play was not executed well..shot
not close.  Jumbo HC seemed unhappy as he led his team to the locker room...head down...thinking
about his words to his team, I presume.  Forgot the score.

Wes update and a few league observations. The Cards have won the last two games and are starting to gel. They definitely are not playing to the level of last Feb but show potential. Reilly has lengthened the bench with PJ Reed, Jordan Sears, Nathan Krill (injured last year), Kevin O'Brien and Jordan Bonner all in the mix with last year's starters, of whom BJ Davis has been excellent so far. Joe Edmonds has yet to play and when he returns he will add to the mix. Eventually this longer bench will be a positive but short term it creates some chemistry issues on the court. No issues off the court as the team seems very supportive of each other, but on the court it will take a while to find the right combinations. Last year when Reilly went with a very short bench the on-court chemistry was very strong. Hopefully we can get there this year with a bigger mix.

Impressed so far by the way Coach App seems to have incorporated the talented Eph frosh group into the lineup. Hixon has a glut of talent and it will be interesting to see how he manages minutes.  A few pages back NESCAC1 observed that in a no-transfer world Hausman would be the third best player in the league. With all respect to Robinson and Hart in 2013-14 neither have matched Hausman's production from last year's NESCAC season. Both have had early success at the D1 level and Hausman has only dominated D3, but it may not be fair to place him third in that group. FWIW I would take Toomey and Robinson as my two best NESCAC players over the past five seasons. Housman and Hudnut would be the two players I would most like to see play for Wes this year (alas, no free agency in the NESCAC).

Duncan Robinson scores 14 points in Michigan's 78-72 win over Texas last night. He played 31 minutes (almost the entire second half), made 5 of 7 shots (4 of 5 from three point land), had 4 assists, two of which grabbed the announcers' attention (Duncan really understands the Beilein/Maker offense). If his individually talented teammates continue to share the ball and run the offense as designed, Duncan is headed for a great three years at Michigan. In addition, his defense is fine, he triggers the in-bound plays, runs the court well, and is really fit. Happy for him that the risk he took is producing rewards thus far with a long way yet to go.

Next game is Tuesday night at 7 pm Eastern in ESPN 2.

Tufts survives over Rhode Island, including what would have been a game winning three pointer at the buzzer. Tufts size and bulk provides an inside power game that will challenge many NESCAC teams this year.

magicman

Middlebury is playing Oswego State in game 2 of the University of Rochester's tournament. Rochester played Johnson State in the first game and there was a webcast and live stats. In the Middlebury gameyou can only get live stats. Pretty sad that the host school can't broadcast the other game for the fans of those teams. I imagine the U of R is hurting for money and is cutting back on these luxuries.

I notice that Rochester had a tough time defeating Johnson State by a 75-67 final. Johnson State is a team that hasn't won a game all year and was recently beaten by Amherst by 52 points. Heck even Pine Manor, a school in only their 2nd year of men's basketball beat Johnson State by 13 points. Must be the Yellowjackets will have another down year in the UAA conference for the 3rd year in a row.

Oswego State leading Middlebury by a 35-23 score early in the 2nd half.

jumpshot

Mid drops to 1-3 scoring only 55 points while losing to Oswego by 15. Panthers shot poorly, with Matt St.A taking the bulk of the attempts for 23 points; only one other player in double digits. Mid commits 20 fouls in the second half trying to catch up. Should have stayed with Vermont-based non-conference schedule ....

GoWesYoungMan

Wes with an efficient 76-49 win over 1-6 Clarkson  at Union College. The schedule indicates we get Union tomorrow even though they lost to Westfield St. today. Epps/Kuo/Davis were combined 16/22. Mackey sat out with injury but Edmonds retuned for his first action to go 4/6 from three. All the freshman got minutes. Progress.

Bucket

Midd starting backcourt of Brown and St. Amour: 14-31. Rest of the team: 6-32.

Ouch.

Free throw shooting continues to haunt: 48 percent. Double ouch.

Was trying to follow some of the CAC games before my last week of college football...big rivalry games.!
Yes it is strange that Rochester did not provide a video of the second game.  In the case of some Amherst broadcasts, there is no announcers due to shortage of experienced personnel...maybe impact of holidays.  Amherst plays Westfield St. on Tuesday and there is no broadcast posted....bummer.  The women's team has an away game with ESCU with only stats listed. The Little East usually has a full broadcast.  It seems I am getting spoiled.  Remember the days not to far back when I got mad when webcasts cost money!
OK...to the one game I did watch for the most part....Tufts vs. RIC in R.I....two future Amherst opponents.   Tufts was behind for the entire game to a smaller, young RIC team.  The Anchormen were hitting outside shots and using their quickness and led as much as ten points....mainly less than six for the most part.  Tufts however used their size and inside game to keep up and win in the last minute.  Tufts is a very good foul shooting team and their upperclassmen came through.  Seems the Anchormen, known for their defense were a bit porous and gave up too many offensive rebounds and second shots.  RIC has had a slow start too date.
It seems that Midd players had the effects of long bus rides and unfamiliar rims.
Strange that the HC of Rochester has had some down seasons.  A former assistant at Amherst, he was known for his recruiting.  Believe he still keeps close touch with Coach Hixon....was in Atlanta watching Amherst win the title in 2013, along with a number of other former assistants.  Walzy was there too with Andrew Olsen, a classmate :).
Oops!  Olsen was in the Class of '08....still hang together when they can. Both fine athletes during their common three years at Amherst.
