Booyakasha....thanks!  So both Midd and Williams benefit from not having to play back to back CAC games.  And Amherst plays Wes today and Williams again on a Wednesday..on the road..  Guess that helps a bit??  Does any other poster find this season's schedule a little strange??...conf schedule.

Middlebury does play back-to-back Friday and Saturday NESCAC games—just not when we play Williams. That's the only game we play that weekend. Just like Amherst only played one weekend game the week they played Williams.

This year and next, Williams is without a travel partner, so they play Friday-Sunday, because their second opponent will have not played on Friday night.

In a couple of years time, it will probably be Amherst's turn. All part of having an unbalanced 11-team league.

And as we've stated ad nauseam on these boards, it's not a competitive advantage for Williams; it's a disadvantage. Yes, they don't play back-to-back games, but every weekend they play a fresh team on Sunday that has had a week to prepare for only one opponent, while Williams will have faced two opponents that weekend.

Hopefully by the time it is Colby's turn either Hamilton will have went back to the Liberty League or we will have added a 12th.

Interesting thought....Booyakasha.  The one wrt to a 12 th team....not Hamilton going back to a NY conf.  Hamilton was an original member of the CAC and their return was after some deliberation.  Travel, etc was considered in part.  The odd ball school is Conn College wrt sports...though this season they maybe returning to their glory years in BB...both women and men.
What school would you suggest for a 12th?   Union College?  That possibility has been discussed on another board!  Not likely as unlikely as a 10 game football season.

Wes taking it to the Jeff's big time in first half. Amherst hitting 21% from field and 11% from three point range. Ugly!

AmherstStudent05

Wesleyan thrashing Amherst 34-21 at the half.

I could only get the webcast to work for the last few minutes but what I saw was really ugly.  It's not just that Amherst was missing three after three, but most of the misses weren't even close.  I can't remember the last time I saw an Amherst team shoot the ball that badly.  Also we had a bunch of sloppy turnovers and weren't hustling back on D.  All in all we are probably lucky to only be down 13.

Here's hoping for better things in the second half.  Good news is that it can't get much worse.

Ugliest game I have ever seen Amherst play!  Green and McCarthy 1-19 from field!

It used to be enough to start a firestorm in here, too.

Wesleyan 71, Amherst 44.

I have been watching Amherst hoops for a solid 15 years now and this was easily the most pathetic game I have ever seen.  First time I recall ever longing for the 2010 team.

Amherst shot just 20 percent from the field.  Remarkably, in a performance emblematic of Amherst's night, Johnny McCarthy finished with zero points on 0-14 shooting (0-8 from three).

Oh well. Certainly not our night. I have full confidence though that we will put this game behind us and be ready for Bowdoin on Friday.

Congrats to the Cardinals for really taking it to us tonight.

Agree. One of the most pitiful performances I have ever witnessed. Racy, Green, McCarthy collectively 4-35 from field. I repeat what I have said previously - too many outside shots.

Maybe the Wesleyan guys posted some of the brutal Jeffcast tweets on the locker room .... Never a great idea to mercilously mock a rival, especially when you see them again a week later.  Any team can have a very very off night, Wesleyan and Amherst each was the beneficiary of an outlier performance from the other.

Amherst got whipped badly by Wesleyan tonight in Middletown!  It was the worst game played by Amherst that I ever saw on Stats....no video.  Wesleyan made Amherst players look out of sorts.  The Cardinals out scored Amherst in both halves....had more RBs, more steals, more assist, etc., etc.
Amherst did score more points in the second half than the first when they scored 21 points.  Amherst did Not break 50 points!...got beat by over 25 points!
Amherst finished the game with a freshman center...if the stats keeper got the name correctly.  4 th string center.  Conklin may have fouled out and George was benched. Could not tell if the 3 rd string center ever got in...as the names keep changing for the Amherst players on the running stats.
The stats reveal the problem.  All the outside shooters could not hit the side of a barn...way less than 20 percent.  Wesleyan doubled Amherst's overall shooting percentage!  Racy could not hit a three, nor JMac, nor Green, etc.,etc.  JDawson was the top three point shooter and ended up with 16 points.  JMac did not score a point.
Glad Amherst got that game out of their system...I hope.
I will give the Cardinal coaches credit....they sub their players in and out throughout the game and they played hard.  Wes players caused TOs and blocked shots.  If someone made a TO...out he went.  Seemed that the Amherst players did not know who they were guarding.
Yes, it was payback time for the Cardinals.

See my post re: the moose earlier in January suggesting the two elements that could result in a disaster such as took place at Wesleyan tonight ....more to come?
