Bucket....not really!  The Amherst players are aware of the game ahead as do the Bowdoin players.  All the tournament teams are aware.  It is win or go home time.  At halftime of last Friday's game,  some Amherst fans...parents were checking the score of the Trinity-Hamilton game.  Later, some fans were excited when the game in Hartford went into OT. Conner Green was checking for the score after the Amherst game.
There are times when I believe the HC is aware that a parTicular player has family up for a game.  Maybe insert a bench player if possible.  After the Hamilton game, Riopel was excited to tell his family gathering around that he got so many rebounds in the game.  In the same game, a backup freshman center was inserted...not the taller, freshman center Big Joe S. Who is normally the first FY off the bench. Do not know the reason...but Hamilton was making a last minute attempt to catch Amherst at the time as they did in the Friday Trinity game.

Just having some fun. :)

Assuming that one Amherst player makes the first team All-NESCAC, it really is a tough call between McCarthy and Green.   McCarthy is in some respects the most integral member of the team in terms of the number of minutes he plays, including playing with almost all of the different rotations.   However, Green - who I have been critical of in the past - is the heart of the team in terms of both scoring and defense.  My guess is that Green will get first team and McCarthy second team, in light of the high standing of the team.

When are the All-NESCAC teams announced?  Before or after the NESCAC Tournament?  Do the voters take the tournament play into consideration when making their final selections?

Why does anyone ever care about All-Nescac? It is a team game. Sometimes the MVP of the team is a guy who gets no attention. I love those guys.

To throw another log on the fire, does anyone have any thoughts on an all rookie team?

Really strong year for rookies in NESCAC, maybe the deepest class in terms of impact in recent memory.

I'd say Simonds, Scadlock, Groll, Casey, Rowe first team, Hoffmann, Grassey, Labossier, Baines second team.  No tenth guy really stands out.  Hoffmann, Grassey, and Labossier all have a good case for the first team, and would make it most years, but I give Scadlock and Casey the edge as two of the four top players on a team that finished above (and beat) all of the other rookie-reliant squads.

Agreed 100% nescac1-I really like Grassey and originally had him on my first team, but your point about Scadlock and Casey is well taken.  And while no 10th stands out, there are several who merit keeping one's eye on as they develop further.  A terrific freshman class.

Well, if Tim Ahn keeps playing the way he has in the last 3 games (and if Bowdoin can keep playing a little bit more), I'd add him to this list.  Might even do it just based on the last couple of games.

Nice article in the Bowdoin student newspaper on John Swords' career in Spain.  Great to see him continuing his career.

The guys over at NbN have just posted their top NESCAC MBB games of the season.  This is just another example of the great work they do!  Really enjoy reading your site.

Completely agree, P'bearfan, about NothingButNESCAC.  It is a terrific site with insightful analysis on the sports that it covers.  I believe that it is done by Middlebury (or is it Bowdoin?) students so I hope that there is some passing along plan for when these students graduate.  They do an excellent job.

Congrats to Bowdoin FY Jack Simonds on being named NESCAC MBB player of the week.  Well deserved!

Old Guy and Bucket--I have a question to ask you.  I have been a member of the Amherst Hoop family for over 10 years but before that I was a proud Midd football father, and certainly cherished my fall Saturday afternoons in Vermont.  I was surprised by the level of antipathy a few years ago between Amherst and Midd, and even discussed it with Old Guy a week or so after the "Box Out" game.
So I get my Midd alumni mag this week and see a great article on Midd Sports with the following side bar---Number of Midd national championships---[some huge number--I don't have in front of me].  Then...Number of national championships for Amherst during the same period--9, or 13, or something about 20% of the Midd number.
I'm calling cheap shot--you guys might have exceeded the total of the rest of the conference combined but you chose to pick on Amherst. We are all friends here, right?
Tell the truth--which one of you guys decided to put that in?

Seems rather jocular to me!  ;)

Hoya73.....nice to hear from you :).  Guess you must be rattling the cage a bit. See you are settling in on the NJAC board.  Hope your son is enjoying his first year as HC....not getting any "grey hairs".
FYI....the expression "box out" has appeared on this board for the second time within a week, with your post being the second.
I was at the Middlebury vs Amherst game on Friday and yes I heard someone call the phrase out.
My greetings to your son when you see him next.....missed his podcasts during football season.
