Duncan Robinson was the leading scorer for Michigan tonight as they defeated Northwestern in overtime to  advance in the Big Ten playoffs. The final score was 72-70 and Robinson had 21 points which tied him for game honors with a player from Northwestern. Robinson also got the ball rolling in overtime as he put the first points on the board with one of his patented 3balls. He also hit another huge 3 pointer when the Wolverines were trailing 70-67 with 47 seconds to play to tie the game up. Michigan score 12 points in the overtime period and Duncan had 6 of them.

The Wolverines are playing for their NCAA lives tomorrow as they face Indiana in the quarterfinals of the tournament. Lose the game and it's probably the NIT for Big Blue.

I watched that game Magic - as I have a daughter at Northwestern.  There were extended periods of the game that Robinson was the best player on the court.  I watched him a bit early in the year, when he just started getting extended playing time, and the progression is remarkable.  He is so comfortable on the court now.  He has added a transition game and the drive and kick.  D1 star in the making the next 2 years!

Completely agree.  DR was a skilled player at Williams and much to his credit he has worked hard to improve his all around game.  Early on I was worried that he would be a D1 version of the NBA Doug McDermott - great shooter but a liability on defense and therefore wouldn't be in the game at crunch time.  That's certainly not be the case.  Major respect for both his skills and the hard work he's put in.

Brutal blow for Tufts, losing Vinny Pace.  And I feel bad for Vinny (and not just because he's an alum of my high school -- go Panthers!) who had one of the more remarkable break out sophomore years in recent NESCAC history.  He was primed to be an all-American next year, but alas, he probably won't be 100 percent until the very end of the season (if at all next year) which means he will have to wait until his senior year more likely.  Tufts at home still won't be easy, but without Pace will be a decided underdog vs. either Amherst or Babson (assuming Flannery is healthy, but I'm also assuming that without a healthy Flannery, Babson will not beat the ex-Jeffs).

What have you officially heard about Pace, nescac1?   Something in the press?  Regardless, that is really tough because he is one heck of a player.   By nature of your comment I am reading an ACL into your words ...

Lines for tonight's games, anyone?

Hope Pace can play...have limited exposure to NESCAC games but I thought he was the best player I saw this year on the given day that I had the privilege...he had a very complete game - not just scoring which I feel sometimes gets too much attention.

Pace is out for the season with a torn ACL, here's a story from the Boston Globe:

I tend to root for Michigan as their head coach is from my (very small) home town.

DR looked pretty darn quick on that backdoor cut!

WPI89.....DR must have been thinking he was playing against Amherst in the game :). NWU has the purple and white colors.
Caught the Coach Hixon interview on Hoopsville this morning.  Interesting comments wrt Amherst foul shooting in consistency this season.  My take of his comments on the ups and down of his team in their play is that it is a mental thing with his players.  He cited the 2nd game with Wesleyan when they got blown out by the Cardinals.  He likes the attitude he sees among his team now as they are talking among themselves more.  Yes, he see a wide open sectional with JWC being the outsider among the participants...the others have played games against each other this season.

If Pace is not available...JWC chances to advance have improved, IMO.

Just watched Michigan beat Indiana.  Robinson nailed a 3-pt play and a huge 3 pointer to tie before teammate Chatman won the game on a last second three.  They're moving on and possibly into the D1 tournament.

Great move to get to the basket on the and 1, followed up by a swish 3-pointer to tie it up.  Watch the replay of the winning shot, he was wide open left hand corner as well.  Pretty darn impressive 1st D1 year.

He should've had that last shot - they said Chatam only hit like 25 threes all year.

Chatman was only in the game because Rahkman fouled out.  The called play probably was for DR, but Chatman found himself in the corner with one second on the clock and the bench screaming 'shoot'!  He put up a prayer.  Fortunately, it was answered in the affirmative!

(Chatman probably has far fewer threes than 25 - he is barely in the rotation, but for today he could be elected governor!  Of course, compared with Rick Snyder, anyone could be elected governor!)

I remember the number 7 and the number 25 being involved.  Maybe he was 7 of 25 from three during the year?

You nailed it (though when I finally tracked down the season stats on a VERY confusing website, it said he was 7 for 26 entering the game).  His eighth successful three of the season is probably the biggest shot of his life!

Since the game was tied and ANY point(s) would win it, no three was necessary, so the final planned play might well have been for (leading scorer) Zak Irvin or  Derrick Walton, Jr. (who are both more likely to draw a foul than DR, though no one in the country, last I checked, is more likely to MAKE FTs than Duncan).

BTW, beating #1 seed Indiana in Indianapolis has by general consensus moved UM from bubble but NIT more likely to almost certainly in the Big Dance.
