P'BearFan.....Yes, Pat Racy is the younger brother of Jeff.

For old timer posters, there was a bit of news wrt Walzy, on the Amherst website.  I last saw him in Salem, Va.  Walzy, was a keynote speaker at the recent Senior-athlete awards dinner hosted by the Friends of Amherst Athletics.  Walzy was introduced by Coach Hixon no less! :). Found out a little more about Walzy who I first met in Rockville, Md.  I knew he was a star soccer player at Amherst, but never was aware of how good he was.  His was three times all Nescac first team and All New England first team three times!  Add on the fact that he was selected Captain and second team All American too. A modest person and a smart person...MBA from the Sloan School at MIT.  Needless to state that he is a big supporter of Amherst BB.

Sewanee President is John McCardell, who is President Emeritus of Middlebury, was President here from 1991-2004, and is a sophisticated fan of athletics, knows what he's doing when it comes to sports. Sewanee won 20 games last year, has a new head coach (assistant for five years was elevated to the head job). Sounds like a good situation.

That should make for an interesting Amherst - Tufts game next season!

With McCarldell in place it's time for Sewanee to start up ice hockey.  The man must have more hockey championships than any president anywhere.

News from NERR of some late season commitments to NESCAC schools:

--6'4" Suffield Academy swingman Elijah Wilson to Wesleyan

--6'5" Kent School postgrad swingman Jamil Gambari to Amherst (former Class B all-state NY player at Woodlands HS, Hartsdale NY)

--6'2" Choate School guard Ethan Schlager to Colby

Film of future Amherst player Jamil Gambari below. Williams also had strong interest according to one newspaper article. Amherst certainly is assembling a plethora of athletic wing players.

JustAFan...thanks for the info! Plus K  Those wing players often become key starters at the 3 and 4 positions, IMO.   Gambari seems to see the whole floor, can play both inside and outside and plays defense.  His size and talents remind me of several players from Amherst's last title team.
I know...big jump, but the potential is there.  It will be interesting to see who will make the cut next season.

Jamil Gambari's HS teammate, Kena Gilmour, will be a frosh at Hamilton next year. Should make for an interesting rivalry.

P'Bearfan......your comment wrt the Racy brothers and ContinentalDomer's mention of former teammates facing one another in College reminded me of a story I posted on the football board a while back.
Amherst has had a number of brothers play against each other recently in football...cornerbacks, runners and wide receivers.  The brothers were at Trinity and Amherst and on the Amherst side, all starters and impact players. My earlier post dealt with star RBs at both schools.  The Amherst RB was asked by some teammates if he minded if they hit his bigger younger brother hard during an upcoming game.  The Amherst record setting starter replied.." .go ahead, I do it all the time".

Here's a random off-season link.  The Ephs' Cole Teal co-authored an article on Shaq for Slam Online:

Bonus points for the use of "peerless posterization."

Pretty interesting discussion about the strength of NESCAC in lacrosse over in LaxPower, Forums, Division 3, NESCAC.  Go back a few pages to get the full flavor of the discussion.

There sure is.  I hope that it has run its course because it's getting nasty.

From the small world department - next year the son of a good friend of mine here in Atlanta will attend Sewanee (aka the University of the South) and play baseball there.  My friend mentioned that Sewanee recently hired a young coach who is in the process of rebuilding the program.  It's great to see a college leader who understands that sports and academics can more than co-exist.
