Me gusta the analogies.
For a minute I thought I was taking the LSATs though: "Amherst is taller than Babson who is taller than Conn who is taller than Daniel Webster who is the shortest of the four. Blah blah blah how tasty is Ohio Northen's coffee?

Walzy, you lost me there.  I thought the Amherst "smuggled copies" of the LSAT had this question

Amherst : Williams  ::  Chocolate : "Poop"

That is first class "Smack"!  :D :D :D

We try harder!

I can thank them for giving me enough education to understand top quality NESCAC smack! ;)

They also have absolutely no mascot or nickname, which is cool.

Colby HANDLED at Springfield (64-46) and Bowdoin slips past Plymouth State (65-64). Then the Mules get thumped (86-70) at home by a 5-4 Plattsburg State team, while Trinity earns a narrow home win over a 6-5 Ursinas team (84-80) and Conn. edges 5-3 Roger Williams (65-60).

Big Ups to Middlebury for being the only team to handle their business (drilling WNEC, 79-53). Time to step it up guys and defend the honor of our conference and region as we're being berated by the rest of the free world. Scrapping with the bottom dwellers of our own region (let alone the east and mid-atlantic), does not become us.

QOWI is a bogus statistic. Yes, it does its job within regions to help the seeding committee fill out the brackets, but you can't compare it across the country. As seen by Titan Q's list above, four NE teams were in the top 10 last year, but we know that neither WPI or Gordon were top tier teams on the national scene. QOWI simply rewards crappy teams for beating crappier teams with a good record against even further crappier teams. Sounds like a lot of crap to me...

Regardless of their QOWI last season, Amherst, Illinois Wesleyan, Wittenberg and Virginia Wesleyan were all excellent teams. Something leads me to believe that regardless of the number, four excellent teams will make it again this year.

I'd hate to be a Beaver tonight, in fact I'd hate to be a Beaver most nights...

Slight correction for the Friar, Middlebury drilled UNE, which is among the worst teams in NE, not WNEC, which is having a solid run so far.

The Bowdoin win is impressive though; they could be a wrench in the works if they continue to play at a high level.

Friar,

When looking at those wins from a QOWI standpoint; Midd, Conn, Bowdoin and Trin all handled their business.  They didn't lose to teams they were supposed to beat.  That has been the backbreaker for the Bants the last couple years.  Dropping a few inexcusable losses that put them behind too many other teams for Pool C bids.

While those wins may not have been the most impressive, this is not figure skating...there are no style points awarded for how you win.  A "W" is a "W"

Friar T

Good call FormerBant. In the end it doesn't matter if it's by 1 or 100... I was just saying that I'd like to see the NESCAC rough up some of the Rudy sqauds...

Also could we use a sport of reference that has less spandexy outfits than figure skating? Perhaps snowboarding or some other XGames event?

If you're more comfortable with freestyle skiing, we could use that in future situations.

BLJ,

Amherst is still the top of the NESCAC, which means most conversations will be about them.  Trinity's football squad was pretty much the entire discussion on the football board when they had their streak going.

In other news, Trinity is havine a decent season so far.  Very different team than last year.  Lot of depth, with 3 guys averaging over 10 points and 2 more guys just below.  They're doing a better job rebounding this year than in the past.  And in recent games have been better with turning the ball over.

The Historian

Amherst over Babson 89 - 70.

Unfortunately, our weak scheduling continues Saturday with poor-Salem-prepper, Williams.

Pat,

Does anyone pick em better?

Uncanny.  I've never seen anything like it.

Walzy,

Got any tips on lottery numbers?

Bates comes back to life tomorrow evening at the Sig Mikofsky (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) tournament at Union College in Schenectady, NY.  They play Elms tomorrow night, and assuming the bobcats win (and they will) they'll have the championship game on Saturday (presumably against Union).

I may be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure that Bates and Amherst are the only remaining undefeateds in NE.  That will change for one of them by the end of next weekend as Amherst makes the long trip to Lewiston, ME on Saturday 1/13 in the second part of a hugely important Nescac weekend (one that may very well determine the host of the Nescac tournament).  Look for Bates to give Amherst a scare, and possibly steal an unexpected victory.  See you all in Lewiston  (Note:  Dress for extremely warm weather, Alumni gym is still a sauna).

Cheers,
Red1

Walzy you continue to be the man.

Jan. 6, Lord Jeff climbs over the mountain to Williamstown with blankets for everyone...

If he did, you'd probably be two off on the big money.
