My instinct is that the plague does not make the tournament. Over one-third of only 17 wins come from weak opponents such as  Green Mountain, St. Lawrence, Anna Maria, Westfield State, Lasell, Keystone. Losses include Springfield, Eastern Connecticut, Connecticut College, Wesleyan (twice), Middlebury, and Williams in NESCAC Tournament first round at home. Two-thirds of schedule played at home in the friendly confines of LeFrak.

Biddy, coach, and amH63 have been on the phones this evening lobbying the committee ....

Congratulations to Middlebury and good luck in the NCAA Tournament!

What a day for the Panthers.  Today, Brown had a different look from jump street and it seemed like the 1st half was a snooze button for St Amour which he smacked a few times before he jumped up and became...  well, St. Amour.  This group has some nice meshing moving parts, and with a few breaks even championship teams need, they could be poised for a deep run.  They are a good watch, have been all season.  Sure would be nice to say the same 6 more times.  Fun to dream.  All that said, Scadlock is my choice to be player of the year in our league before he graduates.  Love that kids game.

Congratulations to Midd on a great championship run in NESCAC. They truly were the class of the league this year. Good luck on the road to Salem...

Posted on the Pool C board by Fantastic 50 based on the basic criteria used by the NCAA committee.  Note that automatic qualifiers are not listed, so this is for the 21 remaining Pool C bids.  He includes winning %, SoS, vRRO record and region.

If this is the case, of course I'd flip 7 and 8, but I'm 100% ecstatic just to make it to the tournament. I hope the committee is up on Wes too..

Wonder if the Babson loss knocks Amherst out?

If Amherst's 7 losses didn't knock them out, it seems to me that Babson's 2nd shouldn't either.

Amherst's SoS is extremely high in Pool C consideration.  They are sitting very pretty in spite of only winning 17 games.  Other NE teams will move to the bubble as a result of MIT's win yesterday.

If either Wesleyan or Amherst has to get left out, that  would be a difficult choice.  Who survives?

Well, it would be whichever team is ranked lower in the region, if it is one or the other. Selections are based on regional rankings.

However, I think both teams will be in the field

I have a lot of things to say about this year's Middlebury team, though I am wary of being overindulgent. I'll parcel things out and will try not to go overboard!

With this post I'd like to recognize what Jeff Brown and his staff have done in creating a fantastic and transformational (at Middlebury) basketball program.

Consider the firsts under Coach Brown's tenure:

*First NCAA appearance (2008)
*First NESCAC title (2009)
*First NCAA win (2010)
*First Final Four appearance (2011)
*First back-to-back NESCAC titles in school history (2016, 2017)

During the past decade: Four NESCAC titles, 6 NESCAC championship appearances, 9 NESCAC semifinal appearances, 8 NCAA tournament berths, 2 Elite Eights, 1 Final Four...and games still to be played.

Each team is different, some years are better than others, but a winning program has been established, and the past decade for Middlebury basketball has been nothing short of phenomenal.

If my calculations are correct over that stretch, a record of 223-56 for a winning percentage of .800  Not bad for a "hockey" school.  The cherry on top for any program is to win the big one.  I hope Jeff and the Panthers get one sooner rather than later.  It certainly couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
