Is it absolutely beyond the realm of comprehension that Tufts might subordinate the quality of its inter-collegiate athletics program and abandon its association with a bunch of rinky-dink tiny LACs in favor of rubbing shoulders with fellow prestigious research universities?

As much as I am a big fan of NESCAC, I would never describe a move to the UAA as "subordinating the quality of its intercollegiate athletics program."  The UAA is a great athletics conference too.   Tufts has plenty of opportunity to rub shoulders with research universities without having to join a sports conference with them.  Plus, WUPHF makes an excellent point about sports offerings.

The contentions that UAA would represent either a downgrade in athletics, or an upgrade in academic reputation / prestige, are both equally ridiculous.  NESCAC and UAA are well-matched on all levels, both athletic and academic.

Unless you want to do PhD research, that is.

The fight for at large berths just got tighter with WPI defeating Springfield in OT this afternoon. Springfield was ranked 6th in the most recent regional rankings, behind #5 Middlebury and ahead of #7 Amherst, which defeated S'field earlier in the year (as did Williams).  Those head to head games may end up being decisive factors.

It's an absolute bloodbath everywhere.  Favored teams like St Johns, Plattesville, Wooster, IWU, Salem, Springfield, Juniata, Hobart, Albertus Magnus, Randolph Macon, Brockport, Occidental, LeTourneau all going down over the last day or so.  And lots more games still to come.  Only some of those are Pool C contenders, but still, early signs are a lot of bubble teams are going to be disappointed.  Amherst probably needs a win today to stay in the mix and Midd might be sweating it a bit, though likely is safe.  Teams on the bubble should be rooting for Plattsburgh, MIT, and Wittenberg, all in very close ongoing battles.

Watching the Keene/EConn game on the Little East Conference channel on tv via my Roku box.
Sure hope the NESCAC gets a Roku channel next season.  Watching on tv is just a bit better than a laptop screen.
Time to watch Amherst and Wesleyan on the computer, now.......

You can plug your laptop into your tv and watch on the big screen.

Yup, I guess I could.  If I only knew how.  Damned liberal arts education.

See-saw of a first half between Amherst and Wesleyan.
Amherst going out to the 24-8 lead, then the Cards storming back with a 30-8 run.
With luck, the 2nd half will be played with the same level of energy.

Holy cow, what a shot, what a game for Nathan Krill.  Seniors gonna senior.  And damn McCarthy came crazy close to making that full court prayer.  He and Riopel were both tremendous all game long.  Tough way to almost surely end the season for Amherst. Hell of a game.

I've been saying Krill is an all-league dude.  After tonight, I don't think there is any question about that!

Terrific basketball game and great win for Wesleyan.   They certainly had Amherst's number this year!  I hope that isn't it for McCarthy and Riopel ...

At Amherst - Wesleyan game tonite. I am not a big fan of posting but i have to say Amherst was robbed. Joe Schneider, I believe went up with a shot with a few seconds to go. I think Joe missed and Weselsyan rebounded. Joe covered the person who rebounded  .The Wesleyan plaery had difficult finding an open pass and finally spun with an elbow to the chin of Joe Schneider and just decked Joe Schneider who is 6 '10-
Ref a few feet away, Amherst players looking at Joe and Weselyan moved ball  upcourt and Krilll who played very well hit a shot .
No way that should not have been a foul on Wesleyan, decking a 6 '10 guy with an elbow and no call is to me just amazing.

I have watched a number of these games this year and the refs can be quite frustrating but to me this was crazy with a ref a few feet away
I hope Joe did not hav a concussion.
Tragic way to lose
