Middlebury handles Morrisville on the road, 78-63, in a game that could have been a trap contest, as nescac1 astutely pointed out earlier.

As I wrote earlier, each contest could feature an offensive explosion from any number of Panthers. Tonight it was Max Bosco with a game-high 23 (7-10 from the field, 8-8 from the stripe). Alex Sobel had a nice stat line: 14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks in 19 minutes. A double-double for Folger (11 and 10), while the starting backcourt of Kornaker-Farrell combined for 21 and 10 assists.
Foul shooting was much better at 81%, but only 3 players (Farrell, Bosco and Sobel) going to the line.  7/7 for Max.  Personal fouls at 13 committed were down, too.  10 fewer than they had against Endicott.

Does anyone know if Griffin Kornaker related to the Kornaker on the Women's team?

Mountain Man

Plattsburgh State.   Not very deep but talented.  Rebounding could be their weakness against Middlebury
Patron is game changer. Middlebury may not have the right defensive matchup for Patron.
Patron reminds me of taller John Bagley

Patron will get the Midd bigs in foul trouble. Patron will overpower most Midd guards. Dahleh & DeLorenzo seem best suited.

Middlebury will try to outrun, outscore & outlast Plattsburgh State.  Very interesting matchup

I'm glad to see that Bates is back on track with two 20-point road wins over Salem State and University of New England, after starting the season with a couple of losses to Brandeis (at home) and Maine Maritime (on the road). Two key Bates players (Coyne and Lynch) were missing from the first two games with pre-season injuries, but now Lynch is back and pitched in 25 last night at UNE. Hopefully Coyne follows soon. Spellman continues to look good...

Well, soph Griffin Kornaker lists his home town on the men's roster as Bradenton FL (he attended Suffield Academy in CT), and frosh Alana Kornaker's hometown is Macedon NY. I bet Bucket knows. We'll get back to you. Speak among yourselves.

Yes, the Bobcats now have a front court (which is to say, Lynch!). He's back from an injury. Hope he can stay healthy. He missed a whole season to injury two years ago. His 25 pts vs UNE was a career high. I wish for him and the Bobcats every success. I root for Bates in every game they play, except one (Midd).

Nick's brother Pete, Midd '13, was an outstanding player on really good teams, an undersized center with terrific inside moves. He was a point center: we ran our offense through him.

On another note, Nick's and Peter's parents — the model for appropriate parental behavior: present, supportive, unobtrusive at games.

Gotta root for Nick and Bates! The Bates coach, Jon Furbush, I think gets as much out of what he has as any NESCAC coach. The Bobcats certainly play us (Midd) tough year after year. (Furbush's brother, though, didn't help me much on my fantasy baseball team — I draft emotionally).

We've had a Bobcat poster in recent years, Lumbercat — hope he comes back.

Go Bobcats!

Regarding Amherst's "White Shadow"....
His classmates honored him by planting a tree....between Amherst's  theater and the entrance to Alumni Gymnasium.
He studied and taught at the famed Yale Drama School and for a semester at Amherst.
He was always available/approachable on campus and at football games...seen with his classmates.
Remember seeing him play in the now named Coolidge Cage as a freshman.
Side note....the Amherst theater building is a copy or vice versa of the former one at Williams.  My wife and I attended Summer theater performances in the original Williams building...many years ago.

Early season NESCAC ROY watch:

Tufts' Carson Cohen is the early leader ... 16.3/3/5.3 plus 1.3 spg vs. a pretty tough early schedule.  Currently leading NESCAC in mpg!

Alex Sobel is the number two early contender with strong numbers across the board in limited minutes: 10-7.5-.5, plus 2.5 bpg.  83 percent fg %!  If he starts to earn more time he could easily vault into the top spot.

Other contenders: Tyler Aronson, Tufts (10/5/1.8), Noah Tyson, Colby (10.8/6.6/2.4), Andrew Snoddy, Bates (10.5/5.3/2.0 plus 1.8 spg) all seem very closely grouped.   Those five guys seem like they are making the most significant contributions of the frosh class to date.

Guys to watch if they can ever earn significant minutes on very deep teams: Jovan Jones and Spencer Spivy, Williams (both of whom I believe would already be significant rotation players elsewhere), and Devonn Allen and Will Phelan, Amherst.

Maineman,
Alana Kornaker from the women's team is first cousins with Griff on the men's squad. Also, Griff grew up in Rochester NY and family moved after his dad ( Head coach at St Johns Fisher's MBB ) recently retired.
Go Midd !

-   Good job by Middlebury taking care of business on the road as they continue to shoot it very well from the perimeter. They head to NEC next, any insight on that squad?
-   Strong play by Tufts (for at least a half) against WPI last night. Hopefully their tough early season schedule will pay dividends later in the season. Good to see Savage get in on the action. They head to Babson next, it won't get any easier.
-   Impressive win for Conn amid the coaching staff changes. Maybe the new leadership can provide them with some momentum going into December.

-   Amherst travels to Anna Maria and should win this one going away.
-   Tough road game for Wesleyan versus Farmingdale State and their hectic style of play. They're coming off two blowouts losses and they'll be hosting Williams this Saturday.
-   Bates heads to Babson hoping to keep things rolling. Should be a good matchup, they always play the Beavers tough. I think they'll fare better than Bowdoin did Sunday night.
-   Trinity takes on WCSU, I'd give the edge to the Bantams as the home team.

Could be an interesting match-up with New England College. They won their conference last year and return their top contributors. (They lost their opening round tournament game to Swarthmore, 90-63.) So far this year, they've blasted weak opponents by about the same margin as Midd (Lyndon +48, Johnson +40, Rivier +44), and beat Plymouth—projected to be middle of the pack in Little East?—by 16.

Appear to be a guard-oriented team, led by junior Izaiah Winston-Brooks and senior Ricky Leonard, who averaged 17 a piece last year.

OG-

Im still here following the Garnet but still reeling a bit from a painful Football season.

Furbush teams always play hard and typically pride themselves on tenacious Defense. With injured players returning we are now seeing the team we expected in preseason. The Bobcats have improved and may surprise a team or two.

MiddWatcher

Nice to see comments from sources other than ones with Midd interests ... including Old Guy with his Maine ( Bates ) bent ! So, I will chip in with more Midd Stuff : ) Only because D3H ... may have missed his mark with the view of Midd as being down in talent. Would suggest from this end that it is perhaps " new talent " ... but talent, nonetheless. Jake Brown and Matt St. Amour and others had to come from somewhere to replace the Kizels and Thompsons, et al.... and that's what happens in college sports. The trick is bringing it in, especially in NESCAC with such challenging admissions scenarios that face each school. I would suggest that Midd's two starting guards: Farrell and Kornaker, are greatly improved over a year ago - especially in shooting technique. Much more elevation and arc for each, they are recipients of good teaching along the way. Folger, too, has impressed with better handling, improved concentration on rebounding, and a stronger frame after much work this summer. The two other starters, McCord and Dahleh, are shining examples of the Middlebury Way: tremendous team players, in every sense of the word. They are a joy to watch on a daily basis in their overrall approach to basketball and life in general. They are "glue guys ". Hugely important. Bosco, off the bench, in the vernacular of today's youth, is " ridiculous ". Remarkable balance, stability and ability to make plays without putting himself in jeopardy. He is a remarkable shooter ( his daily efforts in practice, when I have observed, are incredible ). He has 0 turnovers this year and makes play after play successfully. Should be a starter ? Maybe.... but the aforementioned are doing just fine, too. I would hardly call it a dearth of talent.  Cahill, off the bench, has made his last 5 shots in games, all threes. He is a 6'5 big guy almost none of you have heard of. Heckuva shooter. Sobel, everyone thinks is a righty, but his permanent pivot foot is his right - so he is a better lefty shooter. Maybe no one will notice. Leighton is a very fine shooter, had 17 last year vs. Williams. Ingram is a tough defender, Marcus Smart-like. Sometimes 7th. off the bench is DeLorenzo, who leads team in FG%, second in 3 pt. %, incurred his first TO of season last night, guarded a 5'8 All Vermont HS player, a 6'2 All American, and a 6'6 former Maine State HS Player of the Year vs. Endicott the other day - all in 17 minutes while adding 16 points along the way - and promptly went right back to his accustomed bench spot for most of the game last night. He was an All New England prep player on a very good Exeter team a few years ago ( started every game for two years and shot over 50% on threes and over 90% at the line ) who has barely played in college. So, all in all, while Middlebury may ultimately not have the Big Time " Go To " player, ( Kyrie Irving anyone ? ) they are doing just fine with a collection of very good, but maybe not great, DIII players. DIII is its own unique commodity - if they were really " great " they would be at D1.   But many of those guys wouldn't box out, dive for a loose ball, or set a quality screen if their life depended upon it. But, maybe that's for another discussion.  Midd may prove to be interesting this year, that's all we are saying.

Thanks, Grandaddy!  I figured they could be cousins since I knew Griffin last year listed his hometown as in upstate NY.

CDomer....thanks got the highlights.  Hamilton does nice "packaging"!
MiddWatcher....your post indicate that you are a VT "local" that has been observing the Midd teams for awhile.  Curious that you mention OG as having a Bates bent.  Years ago when I first "met" OG on this board, he would mention that he would go to Bates to see family.  His family name is on a Bates building,,,Admission bldg?.
Old Guy won't bite if you go over and say hi! ;D
