Great post D3HforLyfe -- I'll admit I was laughing pretty hard at the MM reference. And very interesting about Jeremy Arthur, he would have been a difference make for the Bantams.

I'll quibble with your all-league honors slightly. I'd put Farrell over Jefferson on the first team, and I'd put Folger in over Grassey. Grassey's numbers actually don't stack up all that well this year as he shot sub 40% from the field during conference play. He's a great player but there's probably 6 or 7 guys I'd put over him. Bonner is also borderline given his shooting numbers, but he led the conference in rebounding so I'm okay with him. Would probably lean Savage over Bonner but that's more of a toss-up.

I also think Hixon is COY. This is a year before Amherst was supposed to be this good.

With Age Comes Wisdom?

Relative newbe to the board but not to d-3 hoops..   Still contemplating the potential fate of Midds?  Amherst, Hamilton and Williams are in .... but damn this league is a 4 bid league if there is one?  Isn't it??

Middlebury has a winning percentage over .700, I think.  That combined with the sky-high SOS should get them in - you never know, but I think they're in decent shape.

Schneider having another big game defensively so far...Robinson, not surprisingly has a had a few late-in-possession buckets that were killers. Hamilton is having a hard time getting easy shots and almost every possession is a grind. All things considered, a five point deficit at the half isn't too bad, but they're going to have to make some adjustments in the second half if they're going to overcome Amherst's defense today.

Man that was frustrating as a Hamilton fan. They missed a ton of shots while trying to get over the hump. Gilmore had a really tough game, and missed a lot of shots driving to the basket, including one that would have tied the game with about 35 seconds left. A lot of that can be attributed to Amherst's defense, but wow did he struggle. 4-19 from the field from your best player will make winning against a very good team difficult, to say the least. Congratulations to Amherst once again - they played great defense and made just enough shots to stay in front. It wasn't a pretty game but it was certainly hard fought.

Congrats to Amherst!  Thought I watched a Big 10 game.  Gutsy performance by the entire team.  Amherst out rebounds Continentals by 11.  Some questionable calls down the stretch.  Big 3 by Che and clutch FTs by Day and Robinson to secure win.  Defense is getting scary good and this young team has so much depth and promise.  Very impressed with Phalen minutes.  His shot will go down with more time under his belt.  Think Hamilton and Amherst are going to be a tough out in tournament.  And forgot to mention Sellew less.

Post tourney my all league:

Gilmour (POY), Robinson, Casey, Hutcherson, Farrell

Jefferson, Simonds, Heskett, Bonner, Folger (Che, Savage, Scadlock also warrant consideration)

DPOY: Che (Schneider and Padmore runner-up)

ROY: Allen just edging out Tyson with his huge play this weekend.

COY: Hixon

Although losing the three big guys will hurt, Amherst is gonna be scary the next two years.  McCarthy healthy added to Robinson, Sellew, Allen, Che, Day, Phelan nucleus is pretty tough.

If Midd doesn't get in, it will be the loss to Amherst and not the Tufts upset(s) that will hurt the most.

In the regular season finale, the Panthers clung to a 1 point lead with :25 seconds left. Grant Robinson hit a clutch mid-range jumper to swing things back to the Mammoths. But then Jack Farrell had a great look from the wing, ten feet from the basket. Bank shot caught the rim, McCord a great look at a tip with :05. Didn't fall. Game of inches.

Big smile on my face as Amherst wins another CAC Title.  Was raining this morning but it is actually Sunny now.  Another low scoring game and lots of rotation of players by both sides.  In the last minute there was a "scare"  of sorts when announcer stated that Amherst's point guard had picked up his 5th foul!....a very questionable foul, imho.  Seems announcer read the assist column vice the foul column.  PG Robinson remained in the game and got points on the foul line and made a rebound or two to boot.
Some FY players contributed big minutes...one on the defensive side and one on the offensive side.
Big smiles on the Seniors too as they went up for pictures...with the Title trophy/plaque held by the captains...all contributing to the win on the floor.
Hope the Nescac teams will be put in different NCAA brackets!

Amherst was so tenacious defensively. Seemed like most of Gilmour's shots were late in the possession and with a defender (or two) right in his shirt. Robinson is a terrific player, but Allen and Day are worthy too, quite a backcourt. Allen can really defend. Schneider (he's gotta find a new barber — an elongated Bob Denver: period reference) had an excellent weekend, won yesterday's game with his protection of the rim in the final minutes — seven blocks in the game. Today, 10 rebounds (seven offensive!) and three blocks. Bachman is not pretty, but he plays hard and is effective. Will Sellew be back for NCAA play?

Just watched RMC lose to Guilford in the ODAC title game.  Emerson wins in the Newmac title game.  Two ranked teams, RMC and MIT should get a "C" bid.  Upsets by late emerging teams will be the downfall/reason if Midd misses out, IMO.  Still have my fingers crossed for a  Panther bid.
Amherst has a slew of offensive players.....but the emerging young players on the defensive side...should propel Coach Hixon to another COY award.

Just Curious,

Why is Williams in a better spot then Middlebury?

Congrats to the Amherst Mammoths on their NESCAC championship!!  Good Luck in the NCAA Tourney!
