Mike, I'm itching to join you at the announcer's table. I don't remember missing this much of the season last year. Damn interterm. Hope the thesis is going well.

jeffrookie, in all seriousness, are you a male?

Honestly, I'm really intrigued by tonight's Amherst-Middlebury game.  Midd has 3 losses on the season, sure.  But they came in the first five games.  One of those losses was to an 11-2 St. Lawrence team that has a few decent wins in the East region.  One of these came against RPI, who while not on the caliber of a top NESCAC team, beat Midd and Williams and played Conn to the wire.  The numbers the Panthers are putting up during this 9-game win streak (which I believe is a school record, by the way) are just ridiculous.  Generally, teams who try to outgun the Jeffs lose, but these guys are consistantly hitting 90-100 points.  They embarrassed Bowdoin last weekend.

While Amherst certainly should be favored in this one (Hamilton is probably Midd's only signature win), I wonder how close it will be.  Midd has only been blown out once this season.  They have the firepower to hang with the Jeffs.  Is it enough to overtake Amherst?  I doubt it, but the cliche rings true, "that is why they play the game."  I hope the Jeffs didn't waste all their accuracy against Elms!

I see where he's coming from.  I don't know how true this is for the rest of the NESCAC, but Amherst won't be back in session for another week and a half.  Most of the student body really does miss most of the season.

yeah, i'm not sure if it was the expressed disappointment "damn interterm", but more so the "hope the thesis is going well" that made me question his gender.  it's hard for the nescac to have any street cred with comments like these. i'll keep my predictions to myself in regrads to what lunch table at val (is that still what you guys call your dining hall?) jeffrookie sits at...

Is anyone else even phased by the fact a poster here is going by the name feces monkey?  That's just ingenious.  And besides, I'm not exactly sure d3 and "street cred" go all that well together.  We're all a bunch of nerds.  If we weren't we'd be playing NAIA.

I cant decide if Mike Salerno, amherst's backup pg, reminds me more of Wes or Ct from the Real World Road Rules challenge.

The Franchise

Last years Amherst-Midd game was during Middlebury's February break, so there weren't all too many fans in the stands.  As one of the few students who was still on campus at the time, I remembered the game being competitive for the duration.  Amherst went on an early run to take an 8 point lead, and from that point on it was pretty much back and forth.  As that was the only time that I've seen Olson play, I thought that he was steady but not spectacular.  Rudin matched up well against him as they both put up nearly identical numbers (11 pnts and 7 assists for each; Olson had 4 TO's and Rudin had 5).  Olson did hit a big 3 at the end of the game to pretty much put the dagger in Midd's heart, but the game was definately much closer than I expected it to be.  That being said, this years Midd team is definately the deepest and most talented since I've been here..  They have returned all but one player from last years roster (and losing that one senior was addition by subtraction...) and have picked up a freshman, Tim Edwards, a quality guard thats getting serious burn. He has helped Midd push the tempo and generally covers the oppositions best wing player.  If they continue to shoot the ball as well as they have for the past few weeks this game might go down to the final few possessions.  Has Midd played anybody that can defend like Amherst... no they haven't.  But aside from the Hamilton game, they have either won comfortably or blown teams out during this 9 game win streak.  Here's hoping that they make it 10 straight.

Any thoughts on Williams at Trinity tonight?

I would like to some of the young guns for Williams get more playing time. Don't underestimate these guys. They just need some experience.

ill admit that we are all a little nerdy, but "hope the thesis is going well" is BY FAR the most geeky comment you could make on a bball forum. ill bet jeffrookie makes sure olson's printer has enough ink and sharpens all his pencils for him before the start of the semester....

Bluesky,
what "young guns" are you referring to? they already start one freshman, one sophomore, and two juniors - which is pretty young. who (and in place of who) would you like to see get more playing time?

My first thought is that if the traffic is bad I may end up there instead of Amherst. :)

NESCAS-Rubin is a terrific shooter who can also handle the ball. I would like to see him get more time. He has a big upside.

I don't know how it is at Williams, but people suffer through their theses at Amherst. Just telling a friend good luck thats all. This is my problem with you, all you do is bitch and moan about everyone else. Be happy  ;D.

Besides, if you want to know when this forum lost all street cred, it would have to either be your, 'I played tennis at williams, i'm a legitimate d3 athlete' post, or your 'i average a triple double against old guys in my office league' post. Pathetic.

i agree however, who would you take minutes from? i think nelson is the only thing close to ephs have to a "lock down defender" and the chris rose of last year would have been an all league selection this year - i think he is still bound to find his shot coming off the broken hand/thumb. personally, i think snyder is the weakest link of the starting 5 but provides a scoring threat that the ephs don't have too much of.

yeah rookie, i did a thesis and it was really hard and it sucked. i thanked friends who wished me luck along the way....however, there is a time and place to wish friends luck...a bball forum is not one of them, especially when it is in regards to a thesis. now go put olson's laundry in the dryer...it's already on the spin cycle.
