whats the word on who replaces Hixon?
do they stay w Toomey?  plenty of quality guys on the Hixon coaching tree.

It is a national search ... no guarantees at all they stick with Toomey. Depending on who you talk to you will get differing opinions on whether they stick with Toomey.

I think the fact there is a such a rich alumni and coaching tree that Toomey would have a difficult time standing out in the crowd - though, that crowd would depend on who is actually interested. I know of at least some who probably would stick with where they are, believe it or not (and no, I'm not naming names).

And then the point has been raised to me by several different people for different reasons that the school might go in a completely different direction - also depending on the applicant pool which I would assume will be deep. This is an opportunity to start fresh with a different perspective ... and coming on the heels of the men's lacrosse debacle, there may be an opinion that getting someone with no connections to the school or has some particular value that is appealing might be a better option.

The one thing made clear: Dave Hixon isn't going to have any say.

Speaking of starting fresh, there's a coach with one of the highest winning percentages in DIII—if not the highest—who had quite a successful run at an institution down the road, who would be an intriguing choice.

Bucket, it would be a great choice and also would break my heart :)

Leo Durocher manged both the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants.  Quite the crosstown rivalry there.

Too much free time it seems....leading to some questionable options wrt the Amherst HC vacancy.  Several appear to be self promoting "insight" on the subject.  With the subject of when colleges will open up for Fall semester taking priority,  the selection of a sports HC may not be high on the priority list.

It might not be, but that doesn't mean the insight is questionable. I know I've done my homework and usually do before saying something.

There are also four head coaching jobs currently open at Amherst (VB, M/W Squash, MLAX, and MBB). Two have to be filled sooner rather than later ... and one is surrounded with bad news and a tough year ahead. I know faculty hiring has been frozen .. how that impacts coaching hires remains to be seen.

However, one thing most colleges do realize is a way to help enrollment be set for next year is to have a coach in place. Far more than faculty, to be honest. Not many students come because a particular faculty member is recruiting them and the like. Coaches certainly have that influence and can make or break a student's decision to come to the school. So ... I think coaching hires do have a bit of a priority to them.

Two Bowdoin recruits for the class of 2024 (previously, I hadn't heard of any):

Burke Chebuha, 6'7 F, Walker H.S. (Marietta, GA)
Max Williams, 6'2 G, IMG Academy (Brandenton, Florida)

A late recruit addition for Williams, Dan Lee, a point guard out of Ohio (a state where the Ephs have done really well in the past, Aronowitz, Scadlock, and Heskett, hopefully App's good luck with Ohio players continues!).

Coach App has really been crushing the recruiting trail the last two years, nine total recruits over the past two season, all of whom seem like they are at worst capable contributors down the line.  Here's an updated NESCAC recruiting list.  Conn College and Colby also seem like they have very strong incoming classes.

Amherst:
Bobby Sommers, 6'3 G/F, St. Marks
Mohammad Alausa, 6'4 G/F, New Hampton

Bates:
Trace Gotham, 6'5 F, St. Sebastian's
Stephen Ward, 6'6 F, Beaver Country Day
Simon McCormick, 5'6 G, Cony H.S.

Bowdoin:
Burke Chebuha, 6'7 F, Walker H.S. (Marietta, GA)
Max Williams, 6'2 G, IMG Academy (Brandenton, Florida)

Colby:
David Basich, 6'0 G, Green Farms Academy
Henry Westrich, 6'4 G/F, Bangor
Liam O'Connell, 6'4 G, Brighton Academy (#16 in Maine)
Lucas Green, 6'5 F, Princeton Day (NJ)
Eric Baier, 6'3 G, Summit (NJ)

Conn College:
Jarron Flynn, 6'3 G, Kimball Union Academy
Billy Whelan, 6'0 G, Williston Northampton
Nathan Rogers, 6'10 C, Bromfield (MA)
Ben Rice, 6'7 F, Whitman-Hanson (MA) (#35 in MA)

Hamilton:
Julius Nagin, 6'3 G, BB&N
Ryan Michaels, 6'6 F, Berkshire School

Middlebury:
David Brennan, 6'5 F, Roxbury Latin

Tufts:
Jay Dieterle, 6'4 G, Rivers School
Liam Murphy, 6'5 F, Wilbraham & Monson

Trinity:
Will Dorion, 6'1 G, Needham
Charlie Campbell, 6'2 G/F, Canterbury
Garrett Kirk, 6'2 G, Northfield Mount Herman

Wesleyan:
Kiran Kling, 6'9 C, Maret (D.C.)
Olu Oladitan, 6'6 F, Brooks
Dylan Ward, 6'5 G, Williston Northampton

Williams:
Brandon Roughley, 6'8 F, Salisbury (#99 in New England, #40 in CT)
Noah Dinkins, 6'4 G, Andover (#39 in MA)
Declan Porter, 6'6 G/F, Exeter (#19 in NH)
Dan Lee, 6'1 PG, Dublin Jerome (OH)

Elsewhere in New England, Endicott and WPI also brought in highly-acclaimed groups of recruits.  Both are well-positioned to build upon their recent (and for WPI, longstanding) success.  Among others of note, Endicott is bringing in the brothers (I believe) of two NESCAC players, Spencer Aronson (Tyler) and Parker McLaren (Casey).  Nichols and Clark each brought in a few interesting recruits, as well.  I'm guessing St. Joe's has some more big guns coming in, but they seem to get guys very late including through the transfer route ...

That Roughly kid is going to be GOOD. I have not seen him play, but I can tell from the bio line he's got the right stuff. :)

Trying to figure out your last comment Dave -- are you a Salisbury alum :)

And btw Roughley does look like a very interesting prospect based on his video ... he's an unusual player for a D3 big guy, 6'8 but his best attribute appears to be driving to the hole, and he also has a nice three point shot ...

Sarum through and through! :)

I believe I got word a classmate may be going to Babson... but don't quote me on that. It may have just been mutual interest.

I wish more of the Salisbury Gentlemen would go to DIIIs as athletes ... but I won't get on that soapbox ... for now.

I'm clearly biased here, but I'm excited to see Bowdoin pick up another player from the Atlanta area, Burke Chebuhar.  Haven't seen him play in person but it looks like he has good size and the ability to shoot from outside.

Heard.... Current TCNJ Head Coach and Former Amherst Player Matt Goldsmith is in the running for the HC job at Amherst........We'll see ?

amh63

granddaddyhoops....Matt Goldsmith at TCNJ was deeply involved in MBB/sports at Amherst...as was his father...Hoya74?...on this board.  A little surprise in that he has turned the program around at TCNJ. Am interested in your connection to TCNJ/Goldsmiths.  Matt was a fine player and Asst. Coach at Amherst.
The athletic dept. has a good handle on the coaching vacancies at Amherst.  The present volleyball HC coach and an assistant will be there for the upcoming season to prepare the team for a planned 2021 tour in Japan.  Amherst has strong connections in Japan...the baseball team took a tour awhile back.  Koyoto Un.founded by an alum has an Amherst House on campus...just one connection.  Meanwhile, a new coach is in place from Yale.  She has fine connections in California where the majority of past/presents Amherst players are from.  Meanwhile, there is an interim HC and assist on the men's/women squash teams.  The men's lacrosse team has two assist coaches on hand...one a former player and the other is the offensive coordinator.  Dave's somewhat "gloom and doom" post wrt Amherst's athletic dept. is somewhat, imho, a put down to the Athletic Director.
Yes, this post indicates I have too much time cooped up.  Been scanning the Nescac schools and seeing how they  are handling the newly admitted class of 2024....lots of slick videos, etc.  Yes, Amherst  too.  Found out that Tufts and Bowdoin have started new Capital Campaigns..for money. Bowdoin for 500 million....Tufts for 1.5 Billion.  Meanwhile, Bates is closing in on its money Campaign....Williams just finished theirs and Amherst is time wise midway in its Campaign.  I note this topic in that Athletics  is a key factor in getting alums to donate money.

What are you talking about? Please quote what in the world I wrote that you think is a) "gloom and doom" or b) a "put down to the Athletics Director."

I am genuinely curious ... because I don't think you read what I wrote. :)
