For anyone who saw the RIC/Amherst game, how much of a disparity would you say there is between the two teams?

In your least biased opinion, would RIC stand a chance to beat them if they were to play a 2nd time??

I mean no disrespect to RIC, but I think Amherst would beat them even more soundly in a rematch.  Certainly, RIC is one of the better teams in NE -- one of the best teams Amherst has played this year -- but I do think that the disparity between the two teams is significant.

That said, of course RIC could beat Amherst.  It's possible.  But I also think it's highly unlikely.  Last night, Amherst played about as poorly as I've seen them play on offense all year, and they still had a 17 point lead with 2 minutes to go.  If Amherst can win by 14 with Olson going 1 for 9, the team shooting 26% from behind the arc, and committing 18 turnovers, then I think RIC would have to play a perfect game to overcome a "typical" Amherst performance.

Old Guy, the next article you write for the Addis Ababa Fish Rag should be titled, "I'm Old, and I'm a Tool."

In my opinion, Hartford gets a bad reputation....but I no longer reside there, so I cannot certify that it is still the glorious Utopia that it once was.

Sure there are some bad areas, but one can stay away from trouble if one wants to....and, for that matter, find it very easily as well.

I never had an on-campus incident, but have heard stories....but in many cases, the students were extremely irresponisible in their actions....but it could have changed drastically in the past few years, I don't know.

We always wondered what the opposing teams thought about their drive through the Hart-beat before they reached the pearly gates of St. Peter....I mean Camp Trin Trin.

As for beating Amherst....there are still a few teams who can beat them.  But the Jeffs seemed pretty intent on keeping this streak going as long as they can.  As for the mounting pressure with the streak....I think the Jeffs will do fine no matter how the finish the regular season.  They are a little more experienced than St. John Fisher and most likely won't get caught up in the number of continuous victories....Amherst is a team that desperately wants to win the whole thing (not saying others don't).  But they've been close recently and can almost see the top.

I'd much rather take a trip to Hartford than be stuck in Storrs overnight.  It's like some crazy 19th century anarchist experience there.

Oldguy:

This isn't a blog. It's a message board, sometimes called a forum.

We have a blog. It's called the Daily Dose.

Regardless, though, the publicity is nice.  :)

As far as Amherst going undefeated, I wouldn't bet on it simply because it's hard to go undefeated in almost anything at almost any level. And this is coming from someone who called them "the best team I've ever seen", for what it's worth. If they are the winners that you describe, Friar, then they should have no problem mentally. But I still believe today, when sports are so crazily over-focused (I was just saying to my roommates how amazing it is that last night I could listen to a non-conference game between two small d3 girls basketball teams while looking at continuously updated scores and a board of similarly interested people--it's pretty unbelievable when you think about it), it's harder than ever as both the players believe it to be more important, and the fans. But best of luck to them in the process.

I thoroughly enjoyed Old Guy's article, despite having no connection to any of the schools mentioned. There's no need to attack him, geronimo. And as for considering himself a blogger, Pat, doesn't it seem like some of these posts become mini-blogs (mostly the extended game recaps or more elaborate answers) with commentary in between? Seems like a fair characterization to me. I prefer the term "board" because it allows me to daydream that when I go to the "board" I'm pulling down rebounds. Then I remember I'm 6' and terribly out of shape...

Well, not really. Here all comments have equal status. On a blog, there's one person that drives the topic and the rest respond.

You're right whoarewebobcats.  I'm sorry Old Guy.  The Addis Ababa Post Herald Intelligencer is not a fish rag (it's fireplace kindling).  And your circulation is not 57 (it's more like 79).

Thanks whoarewebobcats.  Now I can get my nails done in peace.

BooBallsCasRay

who do you think would win in a dunk contest - Kevin Hopkins, Spud Webb, Manute Bol, The Ultimate Warrior, Otis Nixon, Rob van Winkle aka Vanilla Ice, Emmanuel Lewis, Andre the Giant, Bausko, HeHateMe, Charlie Ward, Jack Osborne, A.C. Slater or Jose Canseco?

(Props are allowed)

I would have to go with bausko - kid is so $$$$$. However, I think Emmanuel lewis could pull off some ridiculous trampoline dunks.

thoughts?

whoarewebobcats

Fair enough, Pat--I was just trying to cut oldguy some slack because I enjoyed his article.

booballs--your list contains a strange proportion of likely steroid users (pro wrestlers and professional baseball players), but I'm taking Slater. I mean, he beat Valley every year in every sport imaginable, so he's gotta be able to throw down a little, right? I think the key ingredient to winning the contest would be dunking OVER Andre the Giant--that's an automatic 10 with judges falling out of their chairs...

Otis Nixon.

These were the only things I could see when the page loaded.  Needless to say, I was doubled over in laughter.  These are two stand-up guys.
