A tie game?  Olson goes to the basket, gets fouled...and for arguments sake lets assume he DOESN'T hit the layup (which you know he did.)  But either the refs are too scared to call it (Tufts) or the argument won't be as good if the bucket goes.  He hits both freethrows with no time left on the clock.  We storm the court...and there are 10-15 posts about how we should act like we've been there before. (Aesop's Fables...you know...the one with the grapes)  That or Bausko, Wheeler or Olson hit a three...or as previously stated a lob into Khop who bangs all over a face or three.

Just because this team plays like more of a team than any one of your other NESCAC schools doesn't mean there aren't players who can step up and dominate.

All you fools are essentially asking:
"Are you telling me that this sucker is nuclear?"

And anyone with half a brain responds:
"No, no, no. This sucker's electrical, but I need a nuclear reaction to generate the 1.21 jigawatts of electricity I need."

When you think you have us (Libyans) we're wearing a bulletproof vest.

i was refereing more to the "Depending when in the season you play an opponent , that will determine your success". i thought the williams paterson part was an example of how the quality of a team can change over the course of a season - confidence, injuries, suspensions, etc. my point was that at the time, trinity beat an undefeated, top 15 team on the road that was very good at that point in the season.

needless to say, i don't think any nescac coach is allowed to do this and hopefully none of these types of
student-athletes are admitted to the school in the first place.

EDIT: Strike this comment, I misread a previous post and my response thus makes no sense.

...but we won't have the luxury of any additional Pool C's compared to last year.
explain?

There's an outside shot that Bates could get in on it's own merit, but it would be tricky.  Assuming they win out and lose in the NESCAC championship game, they'll have 5 losses, all to NESCAC foes, and a barely decent QOWI.

The best chance for the NESCAC to get three is for Trinity to beat Amherst this weekend and then have Bates beat Trinity in the conference final.  I'm pretty sure you'd get three in hands down at that point.

Quote from: formerbant10 on February 06, 2007, 12:40:57 PMIf Tufts plays Trinity again and beats them, then they have a good argument for getting in over the Bants, but right now 8 losses against 3 may be a big deciding factor.

I agree.  Basically, I think there are two NCAA teams: Amherst, and whoever plays Amherst in the finals.

By the way, I just spoke with Bob Sheldon minutes ago.  He told me Jeremy Black will sit out the Bowdoin/Colby weekend with a sprained ankle, but should be set to come back the following week.  That may hurt the Jumbos -- he doesn't start, but he's a very athletic defender, the kind that would really help against Bradley/Hippert/Ferrell.

So then what's your take on Amherst losing in the semifinals to, say, Williams and then Williams beating Trinity in the finals?

walzy31

Amherst didn't move up in the top 25 poll???? We went 3-0! That's such regional bias on this site. Amherst fans are pissed.

lemonjello

Whatever, we're still #1, and not likely to lose it unless we lose before the tournament.  I wouldn't say it's regional bias as much as the acknowledged weakness of the northeast region this year.  Once the tournament begins, national ranking will no longer matter, and Amherst will be able to prove all the doubters wrong (or right).

Don't worry Walzy, a big win over the Bants will drop the Jeffs all the way out.

Bates at Gordon available in audio on Gordon's website: www.gordon.edu/athletics in the left bar. 39-39 early in the second half.

Random question.

Is John Bedford playing pro these days? or what?

Dan Wheeler continues to amaze me. I love these sort of tall smart kids that can shoot the three and play their part in the half-court offensive set.

I'm surprised he wasn't a preseason All-American.

formerbant,
can you describe/explain the professional league you play in? how big is it? what other cities are in the league? etc. what level (d1, d2, d3) did most of the guys play at? just curious.

whoarewebobcats

Bates and Gordon going to overtime, Gordon wisely fouled Bates rather than let the game play out, Stockwell hit 1 of 2 and a Gordon kid got fouled going to the lane, hit both FTs to tie and Zak missed a three at the buzzer. OT starting now, listen in, it's a pretty spirited game, crowd really into it.
