formerbant,
sorry. i can't send personal messages (?). anyways, thanks for the info and best of luck with it all. ill check the website to keep up with your team. i'd like to try to catch the game in brooklyn. keep warm up in rochester.

It's all final at Gordon, Bates wins 82-74. A few quick notes: the announcers, who did a very good job I thought, other than not being able to pronounce Who-ley (not uncommon), were pretty impressed with Bates, calling them the quickest team they had seen and in general being in awe of Zak Ray (haven't seen the box score, but it sounds like he had a very strong offensive game). They also commented on the "impeccable" officiating, which they credited to stronger officiating being present because Bates was a NESCAC team. Interesting comment. Anyway, OT wasn't very interesting, Bates just pulled away and hit shots, Gordon didn't answer, not really any drama.

One addendum to the ROY talk, just wanted to give some props to Chris Wilson, Bates' frosh who is fourth on the team in minutes, has ten starts, led the team in scoring twice, scores 8 a game and pulls down 2.5 boards without turning the ball over much, also showing great composure and is by far the best free throw shooter on the team. He has a promising future. Probably not an ROY contender (is it even really awarded?) but if they had an ROY 1st team he should be there. He'll be running this team for the next three years, and I'm pretty comfortable with that.

Formerbant, I think more than just nescac hoops are interested in where you're playing--it's not a shameless plug at all. What's happening?

i talked to a buddy of mine the other day whose uncle once served on the ncaa tourny committee. granted he did it in the mid 90s and a lot may have changed since then, but apparently the 20 win mark tends to be the big deciding factor as it concerns at-large bids for teams with strong enough schedules. this may not be as true anymore, im not sure but if it is i don't think tufts has a chance unless they win the conference tourny. bates and trinity seem to have more of a chance considering the nescac is a relatively strong conference and the two will most likely reach the 20 win mark.

I agree with my nemisis nescac hoops.
Jumbonation needs to win the tourney to get the AQ or else the only dancing they will be doing will be at their outdoor spring concert.

eclinchy

What if the Jumbos win out the rest of the way, get the two-seed, and then do exactly what they did last year -- win the quarters, beat Trinity in the semis, and come very close to beating Amherst?

I think that's a scenario in which Tufts gets the Pool C.  Trinity would have the same conference record, and be 0-2 head-to-head with Tufts.

formerbant10

But their in region record is better and will have a higher QOWI.

I don't make the selections but with only 19 Pool C's in the entire country, a NESCAC team with 8 losses doesn't have a great chance.  The Jumbos should just try to win the tourney to take all the guess work out of it.

Also, leagues can get more than 1 Pool C.  The NESCAC has gotten 2 Pool C's in the past couple years, and that was when there were only 7 Pool C's

Friar T

I'm not trying to be a hater, but FormerBant is right. Unless Tufts wins the conference tourney, they shouldn't plan on packing a bag. With the weakness of the region this year, we'll probably get the lowest amount of Pool C bids possible and I'm not sure the NESCAC will get 2. The only chance the conference has rests on the fact that Trinity got hosed out of a bid last year. The committee may feel guilty, especially considering that the team that made it instead (I can't remember who) got absolutely smacked in the first round.

Is Trinity doing any sort of broadcast for the game on Saturday?

old_hooper

Does the NE get anymore then 2 or 3 Pool Cs total?  Probably not...RIC or Keene has one of them and Trinity should be one of the others. After that you would have to think that Bates will be considered.  The Jumbos will have a hard time to gather any support for a Pool C from the selection committee based on the in region record and the loss to Bates.

dman

i like the idea of an all-rookie team.  i would include wilson from bates; kaminer from wes; pierce from tufts; bernier from conn; schultz and geoghegan from williams.....

There's no way a team gets a pool C bid with 9 in-region losses.  It just won't happen.

Also, Friar, you meant to say "with only one pool C bid" not "the lowest amount of Pool C bids."  The lowest amount would be none and I think the NESCAC can pencil in at least one C bid, unless things go really crazy.

The lowest amont of Pool C bids would be -1, stiffing the NESCAC out of one this year and then penalizing them another one in '08.

Following the same line of questioning...

What happens if Tufts and Trinity crosses streams?

Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.

Dr. Spengler,

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
