It's pronounced like Worcester but without the Boston accent. :)

Well, that's how it's pronounced by those who live in this vicinity and approximately two radio announcers, you and Wooster's own Mike Breckenridge. :)  The guys doing the Anderson-Wooster baseball doubleheader on Sunday couldn't pronounce it, called it WOOster College, and claimed it was in Columbus.

As for the Middlebury recruit, first, I'm not sure he would have been accepted to Williams -- I think those SAT's, while strong, are below the current threshold for basketball recruits or at least pushing the borderline, although I'm not certain (Midd has a little more flexibility with SAT's being optional).

In any event, there may not be a lot of opportunity for playing time for someone in the 6'5 range coming in as a frosh next year at Williams -- considering they have a large group of frosh 3's and 4's with potential already on the roster, and at least two 6'5-6'6 kids already coming in for next year (and Whittington sounds like he could be pretty solid).  Would you rather be a potential 3 year starter on Midd or a 1 year starter at Williams or Amherst?

Sounds like Amherst is reloading and like Bennett will be an instant impact guy, plus Butler will help as well.  Hixon seems to bring in the top recruit in the league almost every year (Schiel, Bedford, Olson, Baskauskas, and perhaps now Bennett, makes five of the last six years).

I know Rory McDermott and his family pretty well.  Haven't seen him since this summer, but I know he was looking at NESCAC schools for football.  Amherst and Trinity being the main two.  His older brother was the QB at UPenn for the past couple of years.  Any word on where he's going?

Wouldn't be surprised if we see more than a few of those guys on NESCAC rosters next year.

formerbant-will we be seeing them in basketball? How good is Butler? have you heard anything about him? Have you seen him?
I did get a kick how Amherst was declared the best by the Eph. Maybe it's true but how many people really know all sections of the country in D3? Va Wesleyan looked plenty good to me and I think they get all back or maybe lose one. Adair may be short but he is strong and they did win last year. No offense but I doubt Hopkins is as good as that guy from Guilford.
Last year Russ of Wittenberg killed Amherst. However, last year, a soph NOT RUSS, was player of the year in that conference. (NCAC or whatever it is) That soph is now a junior at Wooster. Wash U is likely better than Brandeis. Amherst beat Brandeis but after Brandeis woke up the game was pretty even and Rexhepi was injured to some degree.
If it were Williams or Trinity instead of Amherst, I would be rooting for either one of them. I wouldn't puff them up and then put them down in a subtle way if they lost, or anything of the like.

NESCAC1-As much as I liked Bedford, Rhoten was better. Petrie was close, maybe better? I would take Bedford over Petrie though I sometimes wonder how Petrie would have turned out if he hadn't been so heavily counted on from day one. I didn't see any Bowdoin games except those with Amherst. It seemed to me that teams could key on him far easier than they could key on Bedford.
I think the jury is still out on Baskauskas. He is good but I think we should wait. He's got a little improving to do before we crown him 'best'.

Is anyone else annoyed with the fact that the semifinal game is on friday? How are students from far away schools supposed to get down there when they have class the same day? I have three papers due on Friday, I have to go to my classes, so now I cant see the semifinal live. I dont see why the NCAA wouldnt play the games Saturday/Sunday.
Many schools won't play on Sunday for religious reasons, and the NCAA respects that.
Seriously... there are ways around that. Pull a sick day and have a friend turn in your papers. Or slip them in their box. Duh...

Uh, not that I've ever done that. :-X

Just quoting the article. He did get into Dartmouth. Maybe he did really well on math and verbal and not so hot on the writing. I hear they care less about that one. (I took it back when it was still out of 1600.)

Also, it seems like in general a lot of kids choose the one year at Williams or Amherst.

Oh no, I'm still going. Its just inconvenient.  I guess that post was simply initial over-reaction.

As a alumna of a school that doesn't play on Sunday, I appreciate the tone down. ;)

I've had these two vacation days on the calendar with my boss for at least six months (it's hard to say no to an employee when there is absolutely nothing going on on the calendar yet! :D ) Salem is a good time, glad you are making the trek.

a quick reply to senator, bedford was amazing.  i saw him play numerous times along with petrie.  although i dont have the stats in front of me, and petrie might have scored more, bedford was the better player, and i dont think it was even close.  Petrie got to shoot any time he touched the ball.  his shots often included 3 pump fakes and a fade away.  he was a great scorer with many moves, but multiple times while watching bedford, i would look at a stat sheet expecting to see 14 points and then seeing 25.  he scored in the flow, never forced and has just as much skill.  i think he had better strength also.

winning gets recruits to come

also about the middlebury recruit,  middlebury has a great sports reputation aswell as williams.  im sure it is just a matter of preference and maybe playing time like you said.

JeffRookie2

I dont mean to be too argumentative, but I would say that of the NESCAC schools, Williams is head and shoulders above everyone else (including Amherst, where I am a loyal student) in terms of reputation as a sports school. 8 straight directors cups (or whatever it is now) and the only dIII school to be named on SI's list of the greatest sports schools in the country. Not trying to take anything away from Midd, but Williams is clearly the cream of the crop in that department. Midd and Amherst are probably the second tier, but a good bit behind.

More like I'm not in a hurry to finish my papers, used it as a good excuse to procastinate. Seriously though, answer some of those questions, especially the one on medical redshirting.

But if you don't finish your papers and wash the floor, you can't go to the dance. :D

P.S. I corrected your spelling. ;)

Wait, I'm confused, what did you correct? You see, this is why I'm not writing my papers now.

Diehardfan, as an expert on excuses: I have tickets to the DI final four. Do you think its possible to use the "But its the final four!!!" excuse twice in one semester, or should I feign sickness for the next one?
