For what it's worth...

I just got back from Amherst's 3-point and slam dunk contests tonight.  Watch out for Steve Wheeler next year.  He's not exactly like his brother.  He won the slam dunk contest on two judges' scorecards and placed a close second behind Brandon Jones on three others.  He has an amazing degree of explosiveness that I don't think we had a chance to see on the court this season...

Adolphe placed third in the dunk, but he tells me he wasn't warm enough.  He did, however, score a 15 in the first round and a 14 in the second to win the three-point contest.

I'm assuming you guys have actual dunks in your dunk contest?

At Tufts, about 10 players enter, and the majority of them can't dunk.  It's really depressing to watch.

You are a Tufts guy . Why are you ALWAYS spreading negatives about
a very good basketball team .
Remember 2 things : a dunk is worth 2 points when they make it a 3 ,
the Tufts boys will start jumping .

Secondly I don`t have to remind you that Amherst beat Tufts in OT
all of their last 3 games , I think the end result is ready for a change .l

when jake weitzen loses 45 lbs. he will really start jumping.....

hoopjunkie

Well he was 2nd team all- Nescac with the 45 lbs . Does one
mess with perfection? I agree he is carrying too much weight ,
but he is one tough player .

formerbant10

Weitzen's body makes him a tough matchup.  Too quick for a big guy to guard him on the perimeter.  Too strong for a guard on the block.

Losing 45 lbs. would not be the best thing in the world for him....in a basketball sense.

Six entries last night, and only one couldn't dunk.  We needed one extra participant and this one individual was good-natured enough to give it a shot.  Several other players definitely can dunk, but declined invites.

I was definitely surprised by the athleticism of several of our shorter players.  Obviously, I'm not around to watch practice, and since these guys all stay within Coach Hixon's system during games, you rarely see their individual athletic talent.  After seeing Wheeler and Marcus Bradley (among others) elevate last night, I feel like this team has even more physical talent than they appear to on the court.

Plus, it was a good time for the people who went.  I hope they make it an annual thing.

hoopjunkie

mr mike who won the 3 point contest ?

eclinchy

It sounds as though Jones won?  That wouldn't surprise me.  He's one of the most athletic guys on that roster.

And yes, I'm a Tufts guy, and proud of it.  I'm only making fun of the dunk contest... lighten up.  If I made fun of an event that actually mattered, then you'd have a reason to be offended.

If I recall correctly, there were actually several Tufts players (Pierce, Kumf, maybe Selby?) who could throw down with the best of them.  I'm just saying... there were others who couldn't.

mrmike88

Adolphe Coulibaly won the 3pt contest, in front of Marcus Bradley and soon-to-graduate Mike Salerno.  Brandon Jones won the dunk contest.

It should be mentioned that several players did not participate in either contest who probably would have had a shot at winning.

La Verdad

Not that it matters, but Adolphe and a non-basketball playing student won the 2ball competition.  Rumor has it that Adolphe went ice cold and the student carried the team to victory. :o   Wow, guess there is nothing to talk about during the off season.

mrmike88

Gee, I wonder who that other student might be?

The NCAA announces that they will move the three-point line back:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2859065

How much will this affect a team like Amherst or Williams that shoots a lot of threes?

ephoops

Any recent news on incomimg freshmen for next year?  Acceptance letters went out in April and most schools require that students notify the respective schools by May 1st if the student plans to attend.

Regarding moving the 3 pt line back, I believe it will impact shooting percentages.  You will have more spacing between the post and perimeter players on offense.
