My question is a 6`11" kid going to a d3 school , how good can he be ?

mrmike88

Certainly could be a project, but it's not unheard of.

It happens....hopkins is 6'9" and was pretty good as a freshmen. There are tall players who sit on the benches of many div. 1 team. I hope more players choose the d3 route (provided they can afford it).

along with the other players from the NE the guard from miami supposedly had a few d1 offers but because no IVY league had shown any interest, he chose Trinity.

pantheman1000

word has it that a player from mit is transferring to williams to play with his high school friend.  if this is true this is a big move in the NE.  Any one have more details?

I've heard nothing about that.  The only player that could be, I imagine, is Jimmy Bartolotta who played H.S. ball with Kevin Snyder.   He was arguably the best player in NEWMAC last year and would start for any NESCAC team next year.  I'd be surprised if that were true considering that Williams is absolutely loaded at his position (Rose, Schultz, Snyder, Rubin, Hanifin all can play the 3) and the guy he would displace (if anyone) would actually probably be Snyder, but if it is true, it would put Williams even with Amherst in terms of returning talent.  Anyone able to confirm either way?

bartolotta is a good player and if he were to transfer he would help williams BUT I doubt if they have the talent to be considered a preseason top 5 team.

pantheman1000,
where did you hear this rumor? while i would be thrilled if it were true, i am VERY skeptical until there is some valid source.

pantheman1000

a close friend (lives with) of one of the involved parties, I was/am very skeptical which is why I wanted to see if anyone else had heard anything.  I do know that the two high school friends talked about transferring to play together but I figured it was just talk until I heard this rumor again.

Hey Pat, where do you think Williams will be in the pre-season rankings? Despite a rough start last year, they beat the eventual national champion and gave an elite-eight team a run for their money in the first round. Every rotation player returns. Is that enough for a pre-season top-ten? Do you think anyone else in the NESCAC (other than Amherst) will get votes?

Jeffrookie,

As an eph fan, I don't even think they are a top ten team. While they have a lot of promise now at the big man spot, Geoghegan needs to continue to develop and Weisbrot needs to be healthy. I think if their younger players (Schultz, Geoghegan, this year's incoming freshman, etc.) continue to improve then they have ability to crack into the top ten later in the season if Rose and Shalvoy are playing their best ball as well. That being said, I bet that they are ranked in the pre-season polls in the 20s or at least "receiving votes" category. Having them ranked any higher than 15 would be down right silly....but I wouldn't put it past the d3hoops.com voters to have an "interesting" poll.

In my view, four New England teams belong in the pre-season top 25.  Amherst 1st (or at worst 2nd after Wash U.), Brandeis (who returns everyone and adds some strong recruits) between 5-10, Williams and Keene State both in the 15-25 range.  IF a healthy Rose returns to his Sophomore form (or hopefully even better), IF Shalvoy repeats his shooting performance from last year, IF Schultz, Geoghegan, Rubin and any other rising Sophomore in the rotation make the typical developmental leap from freshman to sophomores, and IF Weisbrot is healthier than he has been the last few years, Williams will end the season in the top 10.  But that is a lot of ifs, so I think they belong more in the bottom part of the top 25.

Wait, is Pat Martin coming back to Trinity next year? nescac.com lists hims as a senior, but they also list shalvoy as a sophomore, so its clear they mess up. Trinity's site has him as a junior last year, which now that I think about it sounds right. But I had thought he was done. somebody help me out?

hoopjunkie

Pat Martin was a senior last year . Russ Martin will be back .

Nescac 1 great post . No doubt Amherst will be #1 . I do believe
Williams can be in the top 10 . Brandeis who was very good last year
still has Steve Deluca who is one of the very best at power forward .
Tufts opening tourney is at Brandeis so that will be an intersting matchup,
if the Jumbos make it to the championship game .

Does anyone know the other 2 schools in the opening Brandeis tourney?

Agent_Zero

its not a tourney, hoopjunkie. its a classic, meaning its already set up who the teams will play and a Tufts-Brandeis match up is not on the docket. However the reason is because Tufts will host Brandeis the next weekend.
