How many times have visiting teams won at LaFrak in, say, the last 8 years? My guess is about thrice. Which teams are they? My guess is Williams and Williams and Williams. Not much opportunity for a visitor to win.

nescac1

If memory serves, Rochester won there in the NCAA's, Williams won twice (both in NESCAC championship games), and Trinity has won 2-3 times.  That may be it for that time period ....

since november of '04 it has been Trinity('05), Rochester('05) and Williams ('07). Since '04, Trinity is the only team with a .500 record against the Jeffs.

the entire list of home losses in this decade is:

Clark (2000)
Middlebury (2001)
Wesleyan (2001)
Trinity (2002)
Williams (2003)
Trinity (2004)
Rochester (2005)
Trinity (2005)
Williams (2007)

I was surprised to see that clark beat us three times in 2 years, including once in the NCAAs. Also, don't know what happened against Wesleyan. Leo Jones had a big game with 25pts/11revs/7asts, maybe the closest to a triple douple I've ever seen in the nescac.

Maybe some of the ex-players lurking on the board can help me out.

Beyond Amherst being a very good team, the hardest part of playing at LeFrak seems to me, an outside observer, must be the odd shooting backgrounds.  Do the positions of the two hoops, especially the one "floating" hoop, cause problems for opposing players?

mrmike88

I know I always had problems when we played on it for intramurals.  Of course, I had problems shooting on any of the baskets in LeFrak, as the players can attest.   :D

nescac hoops

yeah, and the rims are VERY tight at lefrak. however, i would rather play there than bates (an elementary school gym with a stage!) or trinity where the rims are literally crooked.

MrMike88:

It has been a while since I played at LeFrak, but I remember it to be a tough place to shoot.  It took some time to get adjusted to the background as well as the lighting.

Bates was also a miserable gym to play in.

However, I had the pleasure to play my home games in Lasell gym at Williams.  We had a definite home court advantage, especially with the track surrounding the court overhead and the proximity of the students/fans to the court.

Question, I'm new to this board and played with Robert Taylor of Trinity while he was in Cali.  He was incredibly talented and very athletic and stood out in most of the games out here.  I've always read this board to see if anything was ever said about him but he seems to get very little credit.  Why is that??? What are all of your thoughts on him as a player??? If I remember hearing right, wasn't he rookie of the year back in 88' when he entered Trinity?

nescac1

I know Taylor is perhaps the oldest guy in the league, but I BELIEVE he came into the league more recently than 88  :).   He definitely is a talented player, but he was banged up as a sophomore, and then taking a year off may have taken him off the radar screen (and probably affected his production when he returned).  On last year's Trinity team, he was the fourth option on offense on a very balanced team.  Next year, he is one of two go-to scorers returning for Trinity, and will likely end up being a strong candidate to make at least second-team all conference.

N1 is right,

RT3 played most of his sophomore year with a busted right wrist.  Still played very well with the injury limiting his abilities.
Personally, I think he's got a shot to be better than 2nd team.....but it's way too early and I'm biased towards Bobby.

PS, the Bants have a few guys who are pretty old.....Hasiuk and Taylor entered the same year and are the same age.  RT prepped a year, Hasiuk repeated a year when he moved to CT from Poland.

I noticed Pat Martin (but not the other seniors from last year's team) is still on the Trinity roster:

http://www.trincoll.edu/athletics/main.aspx?mode=roster&t_id=2&year=0

Does that mean he is returning?  If so, with two sixth year seniors, a fifth year senior, a junior (Westbrooks) and a regular senior (R. Martin), that would have to be the most experienced starting line-up in NESCAC history.  And that line-up would be enough to put Trinity right there with Williams and not too far behind Amherst in terms of pre-season expectations.

Anybody have any insight as to who the new Wesleyan coach will be?

Jacketfan2011

Is McDowell coming back at some point - hence the "interim" head coach search?  Anyone know what the situation is?

Who are the two sixth year seniors????  If it were true that P. Martin was coming back, he'd be in his fifth year.  Taylor is in his senior year with a 1-year hiatus after sophomore (4+1=5).  He and Hasiuk (Hasiuk was hurt for an entire year) were in the same recruiting class, so that put him in his 5th year as well.
