Be on the lookout for Jeremy Black. He may look like he goes to a tanning booth 3 times a week. But he's the NESCAC's best kept secret. He is a true gunslinger. He is the second best pg in the NESCAC. Tufts is going to be good.

Where is the 'bunkster'? No word from that pimply faced freshman! He's probably drinking beer illegally in a parking lot somewhere.

I wish you were right Garrison re: Jeremy Black. After a good sophmore year, he totally regressed & had a terrible junior year . Before his knee injury he was rated as one of the top point guards in the east . In my opinion he never regained any speed that he must have had as a high schooler . If by some miracle , Black gains some humilty & understands he need to stop being a wise guy & get into shape, Tufts could definitely use a top point guard . That along with size, seems to be the areas where the Jumbos could use help.

The Mules will be coming out towards the top of the league once again this season. Here are just a couple reasons why.

1) They have the best pure shooter in the league and that is Mark Gaudet. He broke his foot in 2 or 3 places, and he took it like a man until the doctors forced him get a hardcast.

2) The team is much more athletic. 1 freshmen stud, who wouldve been FPOY if not for that sophmore on Tufts, and multiple others studs on the wings that did not get as much burn from last year.

3) Artie Cutrone is gonna bring a new brand of basketball to the NESCAC
4) New uniforms...

more reasons coming...

5) Colby team will be well-conditioned after jogging to Thomas for court time.

When do  the NESCAC schools post their basketball schedules ? I have seen the inter-conference schedule, but when already?

"Andrew Olson and Amherst come back to school with a title defense ahead of them."

What are the early reports from pick up games around the NESCAC? Any surprises of anyone that could dramatically improve a team?

JeffRookie2

i have a class with kurt bennett. he looks a little skinny. cant wait to see him on the court though

mrmike88

Bennett's a freshman; I'm not surprised he's skinny.  It'll be interesting to see if he gets any PT in the post against some of the veteran bigs in the NESCAC.  Size is one thing, but skill is another...

Walzy has, alas, moved on from Amherst, but I'm sure you'll see him at as many games as he can make it to.

And if I can't make it up to Amherst til mid-season, I can always comment about the Williams College Bake Sale they got going this season.
Have you seen how many cupcakes they have on their schedule? It has to be one of the softest non-conference schedules in New England.

Drew
Ursinus/W&L
RPI
Framingham State
Southern Vermont
Springfield
Lehman
CCNY
Keene St.
Mitchell
Souhtern Vermont/Nichols
Lasell

Hey. At least they have a shot at playing So. Vermont twice. That's something.
Williams will go 20-4 regular season (finish 3rd in nescac). Lose in NESCAC semis or finals. Host the opening round of NCAAs and get upset in Round of 32 or smoked in sweet 16.

First, where did you see that schedule, Walzy, I don't see it posted on-line?  Second, pretty ironic for an Amherst fan to be talking about weak non-conf. schedules ... Amherst hasn't exactly challenged itself out of conference over the years.  Third, while I agree that looks very weak overall, Keene State will be one of the top five in New England, and Ursinus and Lasell are at least credible teams.   Springfield is traditionally solid although they have been down of late.  As for the rest, admittedly extremely soft (although some of those soft teams managed to beat the Ephs last year when Chris Rose was very limited and breaking in all the frosh on the roster).

Williams may not go far in the tournament (if they make it in at all) but I don't think it will be for lack of preparation during the regular season ... two, possibly three, games against Amherst, one or more against Trinity / Tufts / Middlebury, and one against Keene State is enough marquee match-ups.  What Williams really needs is (a) to stay healthy (b) to get more inside scoring and defense out of the young big guys and (c) to find a legit scorer off the bench (perhaps Rubin, Golia, or Hardy).

idiotic/ironic comments like these give way to equally stupid phrases like "don't throw stones when you live in a glass house" or "don't call the kettle black". paulsen wanted to get season openers with nycct or thomas college....

also, don't knock bake sales! freshman girls are too young to buy beers for but baked goods are fair game....

At least a williams fan puts Lasell in the credible category.  How noble of you.  Considering you got waxed by almost 30 last year, maybe Lasell should be calling you a credible non-league opponent.
