Apparently Jones had some sort of injury issue today?  What's the word on that?

Don't think Amherst will move into the top spot this week. U of R remains #1. Be surprised if they get penalized for losing in overtime on a 1000 mile road trip. Jeffs may not even get the #2 spot but that's where I would put them.

the jeffs learned last year which poll matters most but it definately shoud not be rochester. if not the jeffs then possibly the wash. u. if the beat they judges.

More info on that Amherst recruit:

http://blogs.tampabay.com/preps/2008/01/ivy-league-powe.html

If he ends up at Amherst, that would be pretty big for the Jeffs, if Penn and Princeton are in the mix.

Line of whether or not Waller applied early decision to Amherst and got accepted:

Yes, he is coming to Amherst = CLOSED
No, he is not coming to Amherst = CLOSED

The outcome of that is in question as much as yesterday's Amherst Williams score.
Bets are closed when the outcome is decided. He is coming to Amherst early decision.

Brandeis was up 69-62 with 1:30 left and Wash U came roaring back with nine straight points to finish off a 71-69 Wash U win.

Should be interesting to see whether Amherst or Wash U gets the #1 spot tomorrow. Either way, this is good news for Amherst, who might have the inside track on Brandeis now for homecourt in the NCAAs. UMass-Dartmouth, though, is still undefeated. Its going to be interesting through the last few weeks to see who can come out on top in that battle. Typically the Jeffs havent had that much competition in the region outside of the NESCAC, but that is certainly not the case this year.

jeffs need to finish strong and hope that the slide continues for the judges and that UMD loses a couple. It would be nice to see wash u. handle the rochester....they are a strong choice for possible regonal site for the sweet 16/ elite 8.

Think it's a three-way battle for No. 1: Mass-Dartmouth, Rochester and Wash U (in alpha order).

Good wins...wash u....trump a bad loss...rochester....UMD still needs a few more wins to convince me esp when RIC loses to UMB like they did.

walzy31

Amherst has been consistent from the 3-hole, but if they fall to #4 because two teams leap-frog them and Rochester stays in top 3 with a loss to a bad Emory team, then I understand. They will just take it out on Colby and Bowdoin.

ephoops

I would e very surprised if U Mass Dartmouth jumps ino the #1 spot.  Their most impressive win is against Brandeis and given Brandeis's melt down this weekend at home, UMD does not deserve the #1 spot despite their undefeated record.

I can see Umass-Dartmouth, but I dont understand how Rochester--with a loss to an unranked team--can compete with Amherst, whose only Div.III loss is to Brandeis and who took out #10 Williams on Saturday. Even Wash u has a loss to unranked Calvin, and their only quality win is against Brandeis. The only possible reasoning I see for keeping Rochester and Wash U ahead of the Jeffs is the 'They beat Brandeis and Brandeis beat Amherst' argument, which I think is a little silly. (You dont think the Jeffs could beat Emory and Calvin?)

Pat Coleman

Probably because Rochester beat Brandeis and Amherst did not. Since both teams have a similar number of losses, it's helpful.

I don't think the Emory loss is too much different than the Florida Memorial loss. Both at the end of long plane trips, and even though Florida Memorial has the ability to grant six scholarships they're not SO much better than Emory that Amherst can be given a pass that Rochester can't.

OK, you modified your post while I was typing.

I don't think a common opponent, especially a high-level one, is silly.
