Tufts 93
Williams 68

The Ephs implosion continues.
Tough loss for Williams.  What seed did they get for last year's tourney?  Maybe they have another magical run left in them?

Question about strength of schedule, region rankings, tourney seeding etc...What do the ephs' woes mean for amherst.  At the time of both games, the ephs were very highly ranked (maybe #4th in the first game and #7th in the second?), but have fallen out of the national rankings after losing 6 of their last 9, including 4 straight.  Help me out here Pat.

I think that Williams' recent woes only hurt our QOWI if their record falls below a certain winning percentage threshold (66%?).  Now, Williams' slide may hurt the Jeffs in the committee's eyes, but in my humble opinion it won't affect us too much if we win out.

That's a serious Eph's butt whipping by the Jumbos......

QOWI is no longer used (good riddance!).  The replacement is OWP (opponents' winning percentage) and OOWP (opponents' opponents' winning percentage).  This should help stronger conferences in stronger regions (no longer will beating a 17-8 team who got their wins against the little sisters of the blind get maximum points), but the actual practical effect is so far unknown.

So each loss by the Ephs is a slight lowering of the Jeffs' OWP (and, indirectly, their OOWP, though that is of course compensated for by a rise in their OWP)), but there is no magical 67% cut-off.

Final from Brunswick:

Bowdoin 70 Colby 60

Pretty good weekend for Middlebury's Aaron Smith: 39 points (16-29), 21 boards, in two decisive Panther road wins (Tufts 85-76;, Bates 92-71). I hope he'll begin to be included in discussions about all league teams. (Not easy to beat Bates at Bates.)

Props to Midd for keeping Bates from winning every home conference game this season. I think Bates' gym is the most difficult place to play in the conference. However, last year Bates went 1-4 in NESCAC home games (they beat Tufts and lost to Trinity, Amherst, Colby and Bowdoin).

Today's game between Tufts and Williams was a classic "rubbernecking" game.

The fans attending were there to witness the car wreck that has been the conference season season for both Tufts and Williams.

Prior to this season, we thought this game would be a match up between a Ferrari and a Lamborghini.  Instead, it turned out to be an Edsel versus a Yugo.

For one afternoon, Tufts looked great - - they shot lights out, passed well and rebounded.

The Ephs woes continue...the team is an enigma (and no fpc85, an enigma is not a skin condition  ;).)  Maybe it time to give the young kids a few more minutes...

Walzy31, If the NESCAC's played a double round robin in regular season like all other conferences their records would not be as inflated (or deflated) as we know them.

Saw Amherst last night vs Conn.  Why is Amherst not in the Ivy league?

formerbant10

Looks like Stone had a solid game for Conn.  Didn't shoot too well 5-15, but almost had a triple double.

Also looks like Amherst and Trin didn't look too far past them.

Baseballguy,

Amherst is a small liberal arts college, wouldn't really fit in with the bigger universities in the Ivy.  Plus, they do pretty well in the NESCAC.

I think they like where they are.

middlebury had a huge weekend... Aaron Smith for midd has been on fire, he is a die hard worker and a great kid...  10 offensive boards vs. tufts... hopefully he will be considered for all-league... right now midd is looking at a 3 seed for the tournament, with midd shooting lights out from the arc with harris back, they will be very dangerous..

baseballguy

I know about Amherst, I meant that  they could compete in the Ivy!

They have a shot if they sweep this weekend and Amherst beats Trinity.  Very possible there could be a 3 way tie for 2nd with Trin, Bowdoin, and Midd.
