Old Guy

NESCAC1:

Thanks for the acknowledgment of Middlebury's non-conference schedule. There are some gimmes, but because of proximity and institutional similarity it makes sense to play the New York schools: Union, St. Lawrence, RPI, Hamilton, Skidmore (not always as bad as the last couple of years), Plattsburgh. It makes for some early tests.

Hey Waltzy -

are you re-setting the spread for today?

My "to win the NESCAC tourney" lines did not make any sense. Those will be reset.
My spreads for todays games that I posted earlier in the week are still good for today.

Amherst to win the NESCAC tourney in 3 blow-outs! The field is weak, and Amherst will be playing at home throughout - irrespective of the field's seeding, seeds 2-8 will comprise a bunch of deck chairs on that well known ocean liner.

CCsalive

Heartbreaker for CC. I am thankful I was not there. How in the world did they lose that game with Williams shooting so poorly? It is difficult to stomach that despite the Camels being undersized, 5 more points out of Stone gets Conn the W. What am I talking about? 5 points out of anybody! Or any combination of people!
This sport is maddening...

Old Guy you rule...I hope CC runs some nice back-door cuts for you! I was at that game two seasons ago when CC came back and won late...at the time, no one knew Middlebury was on the rise.

Conn College upsets Midd 95-84... Conn Coll shot 66 % from the field and 52 % from the arc. Hard not to lose with those numbers. This should really make the tourney interesting.

Bates beats Bowdoin, 65-62, behind 20 points from Chris Wilson.  Looks like Bowdoin might be in good shape to back into the 2 seed anyway though, thanks to Conn.

Trinity's upset bid is alive... only down 30-29 at the half.  Jones has 12; Martin has 9 for the Bants but shooting 3-of-10.

JustAFan

Amherst over Trinity, 69-58
Colby over Tufts, 71-68
Williams over Wesleyan, 87-57

Final standings:

1  Amherst 9-0
2  Bowdoin 6-3
    Middlebury 6-3
    Trinity 6-3
5  Bates 5-4
6  Connecticut College 4-5
    Williams 4-5
8  Colby 3-6
9  Tufts 1-8
    Wesleyan 1-8

Caveat on standings: Don't take my order as gospel for #2-4 and 6-7. I gave the order listed on the NESCAC site but it's contrary to some of the tie-breaker scenarios folks have posted here.

Tough loss for the Polar Bears today against a Bates team that did not have Ellis.  I did not see the game but I read the write-up and it seemed as though Bowdoin gave the game away.  I have also heard that Bowdoin is now the 4 seed and will host Bates in the first round.  As a Bowdoin fan, I am thrilled about this match-up, even though Bates is 2-0 v.bowdoin this year.  I would be shocked if Bates came into Bowdoin and won this game.  I cannot see Bates going 3-0 agaisnt a very good Bowdoin team.  I also do not think Bates will be able to win back-to-back games in Bowdoin's gym.  I hope to make the trip to Bowdoin to see this heated rivalry continue....

FormerPolarBear

eclin, how is Bowdoin the 2 seed.?..they lost to Bates..so that tiebreaker scenario you have listed wouldnt benefit them.

FormerPolarBear

Its confirmed..Bowdoin is 4 seed

Wow, I'm an idiot.  I was looking at the wrong Bowdoin games... the non-conference ones in January.  Ignore my last post (in fact, I'll go ahead and delete it).

Congrats to the Bants on wrapping up the 2 seed.

Congrats to AmHerst in running the table in the regular season.  Given the balance in the league this year, 9-0 in the conference is very impressive.

The matchup of the Ephs at Midd next weekend will be a good one.  I agree that Shalvoy, Schultz and especially Rose just need to relax and paly their respective games.  I'd love to see the Ephs catch lightning in a bottle for the second season in a row in the tourney.

This question may have been already asked and answered previously but if the Ephs win next weekend as the 6 seed, and they are the lowest seed left in the tournament, do they play Amherst in the semi finals or do they play the 2 seed in the semi finals??

ephoops

I just read on the NESCAC site that the highest remaining seed plays the lowest remaining seed in the semi finals.

The NESCAC also finally revamped its web site...

FormerPolarBear

Early predictions....Amherst, Williams, Bowdoin, and Trinity advance to semis...
