I am told the Amherst freshmen look very good. they should provide solid depth at each position.

My guess is that Hixon will be looking to start one freshman.
Below is the way I see the starting 5:

1 - Meehan
2 - Wheeler
3 - Baskauskas
4 -
5 - Holsey

Bennett and the first year bigs will all be competing with Holsey for those PF and C minutes.

Holsey's shot got pretty wet towards the end of last year.  If he can knock down open jumpers, then Hixon could play Bennett at the 5 and Chibs at the 4.  The main problem with that line up (and the one you have proposed) is that there is only one player that can really handle the ball.  I'd expect to see Wong and Bradley get a lot of minutes at the 1 and 2?  I could be wrong...all my sources graduated  :'(

fpc85,

That was enjoyable to read. Thanks for sharing. Do you know if any of the other four '08ers have blogs or something similar?

fpc85

Walzy I am currently trying to find out about the others. I know all the 08's discussed doing a blog together. I think that is still the plan.

I see that Colby has updated their roster on the web showing incoming Freshman --- seven players in the Class of '12.

Disappointing move by Amaker at Harvard as reported in the Sunday, Sept 28th NY Times, dismissing 5 returning players from the team, including all 3 sophs, to make room for his highly touted incoming recruiting class of 7 freshmen. All of the returning players were told they weren't good enough to make this year's team, but none were given the chance to tryout and compete for a spot on this year's team, nor were they told of Amaker's decision last spring or over the summer, when they might have had a chance to transfer to another school.  It'll be interesting to see whether Amaker's Duke/Michigan approach to D1 basketball turns out to be a good fit for Harvard, especially on the heels of whispering about the academic credentials of his incoming freshmen.  And I'll be curious to see if any of the kids who were cut end up transferring to NESCAC schools.

I bet a lot of schools in the NESCAC would love to get their hands on some Harvard "rejects"

I bumped into a friend who is a Bucknell grad... He said that Bucknell's best player tore his ACL in a pick-up game on campus last week and will likely be out for the season.

Tough start for the Dave Paulson era at Bucknell...

dave paulsen gets huge accolades, which he deserves, but his DI style recruiting practices in DIII basketball at times were suspect. perhaps last season's mess is somewhat karmic. we must all look at positives as well as negatives.

ne-ball:

What are you referring to specifically???  What are the "DI style recruiting practices" that you deem "suspect?"

ne-ball

overrecruiting at a particular position right to the very end, stockpiling guys (many of whom get buried on JV or get to varsity and don't see the light of day). i don't think that all the guys who get recruited understand the difficulty of getting through his system when he was at williams. to me, that leans more to a D1 approach than DIII. all that said, good guy, good coach but those are the practices i am referring to.
