Can you give us any insights on why Ogrodnik stepped down at this time?

any word on any frosh to look out for, or upperclassmen ready to break out?

Nescac1, there is a player who may not put up so many points this season but his impact on every game will be huge.  This guy blocks shots, rebounds, and can play solid defense against any position on the floor.  He plays for Amherst and is quite possibly the best dunker in the league.  I will not give you his name for he must be seen in person to get a real appreciation of his value.  I just hope he will be healthy come November.

La Verdad, I wish you luck.  Just remember that if you do find yourself in the World Series, fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals.  Field the ball, make the throw.

I wonder if the rt. 9 diner misses us?

Couldn't disagree with you more about Gettysburg.  There are other good leagues in the country other than the NESCAC.  I don't know much about St. Thomas other than they were ranked in the top 25 by D3Hoops most of last season and dropped out right at the end after an early exit from the tournament.  Gettysburg finished the season losing to Ursinus in the Sweet 16 and should have been in the top 25.  Their record was 24-5 losing only to Cal Lutheran on the West Coast and to Ursinus four times.  They return all five starters and several key reserves.  Last year they ranked in the top 15 defensively and fourth nationally in blocked shots.  I would say they deserve to be recognized in the preseason national poll.  P.S. I am not a Gettysburg fan.

In fact, Gettysburg and St. Thomas probably would've ended the season in the Top 25 if not for a couple of Cinderella teams passing them up.

Coach Ogrodnik retired at this time out of loyality to his long time assistant. It is a great way to guarentee that the assistant at least gets a one-year crack and coaching the team and a chance to prove himself. If Stan had stepped down 8 months ago, there assuredly would have been a full search... and with a full search, the chances of the assistant landing the position are about as good as me rolling a 7 on the next throw of the dice.

If that is true, then does his action serve the best interest of the institution which signed his paycheck all these years?

Yes it does make sense, if anyone has been around the Trinity program the last few years they'd know Sean is largely responsible for the tremendous recruiting classes that have been coming in. Those are his kids and he deserves a shot at leading them. I'm sure he'll do a great job.....
And as a Las Vegan, let me point out that rolling a 7 is the most likely roll, thats why the house wins on a 7 in craps

Or Trin could have hired Ty Rhoten as their head coach a-la Bates' new head coach decision...

I'm still sure Sean prefers the situation he has now rather than being 1 of 6 finalists.

Anyone hear anything new about Bates (obviously other than Furbush replacing Reilly as coach)...recruiting stuff, development of players already there, etc?

For some reason, I don't think Ty will be stepping away from his job to take the helm.
The move makes a lot of sense.  Bringing in a new coach in the middle of October would be absurd.  Having Sean step up provides some continuity for the players.
I'm sure there will be a search held after the season is over...but this is a great opportunity for Sean and I've heard that he's got quite a bit of talent on his hands.

Second game of the year should be a good test.  Ithaca should have a very solid team this year.

Been following Nescac since early 90's, and with Stan O's retirement, I can't help but reflect on the impressive quality of coaches that have and/or still do walk the sidelines in Nescac, in particular, the old school of Hixon, Sheehy, Whitmore, and Stan O.

I don't know the exact stats, but those 4 veteran coaches mentioned above have won a huge number of games - (2000 wins or so?).   Different styles perhap, but bottom line, all are/were excellent and talented coaches.

Coach O did the right thing, he probably know he was going to leave months ago. So he waited it out and gave the job to his loyal assistant. There is no way anyone deserves the job more then Sean.

If there are any locals in Williamstown reading this board, what is the early view on Maker?

How has he fit into the Williams community?  How did the players feel upon their return from Italy?

I saw a recent video on the Williams athletic website featuring Harry Sheehy where the host of a weekly video campus sporst program (Chris Dufour) noted that Maker appears to be fitting in well in the community.

Any other feedback?

I agree with the National Rankings from a NE perspective. Amherst will ascend into the top 5 after they start 14-0.

I also agree that Deis should be pre-season ranked higher than the Jeffs.

Over/Under on the combined 3pt fg% for Amherst's senior class for the 08/09 season: 44.5%
Baskauskas (.483 career)
Bradley (.516 career)
Holsey (0-2 career)
Kaplan (.385 career)
Wong (.205 career)
