If I've got this figured out; this year Amherst only plays four conference games at home and two of them are CC and Wes. If I'm a 'Herst native and a hoops fan, I'm not too happy about that.

On the flip side, next year they have 5 home games plus Wes and Conn on the road.  If I'm everyone else I wouldn't be too happy about that.

Old Guy

CCsalive: Bowdoin has a good well-balanced team. Seniors Kyle Jackson and Tim Lane, both 6'4" 200+ pounds, are versatile players. Junior Mark Phillips is a 6'8" 250 lb banger. Will Hanley is a 6'7" smooth as silk frosh who can hit the outside shot and go to the hoop. Should be a star in the league. Their point guard Hauser didn't seem to be in the class of Wilson-Cutrone-Rudin, but ran the show capably. A nice group of players. On any given night . . .

TheHerst2and4

In an unrelated question, does anyone know what the final tally was for Amherst's consecutive weeks in the D3Hoops.com top 25?

CCsalive

Old Guy- You are in a class by yourself and not because you're the only one on this page collecting Social Security. Thanks for the Bowdoin info; these other Andy Katz wannabees spend their time scouring the Cape Cod weekly newspapers for blurbs about Williams or Amherst prospects. So what you're telling me is that Bowdoin is monsterous! When I was a student at Hamilton in the late 90's (back when Ham-tech was playing NESCAC foes) we used to laugh at Bowdoin during lay-up lines and they would then wax the floor with us! Big and brawny and they don't miss. But, here is why Conn will win:
- Have any of you seen the Camels? They really do run the Princeton Offense beautifully. This is not beyond criticism, but given the height and depth and talent that the Camels give up each night, the precision of their offense does serve as an equalizer. I write 'precision' and not 'slow' because the goal is to always run the offense quickly, but to wait for the opening be it a lay-up or a wide open three. Often, neither occurs until late in the shot clock, but most of the time one or the other does indeed develop. Hence, CC's high 3pt %.
-As the season grows longer, I believe this offense becomes harder to guard. CC runs like a smoother machine and defenses are tired of trying to fight over screens and defend the back door...ever tried to do both at once?
-Veteran backcourt. I recall a senior John Bedford dominating a freshmen Billy Karis. Now it is Billy's turn. I think he's going to have a big weekend in Maine. Bridgeton product and New Hampshire native Shavar Bernier will seal up an all-nescac spot with an even bigger weekend for CC.
-The x factor is Demetrius Porter. In many ways he gives the Camels more at the 5 spot than did current European Pro, Charles Stone.

I ask you all this: If we Camels can secure the #8 spot, who would we want to play? I really think I'd rather play Middlebury than have to go to Lefrak again.

topoftheworld

ccsalive, i really do enjoy reading your posts because they are funny but sometimes i can't tell if you are being serious or comepletely sarcastic.

in what was would you say demetrius porter gives your team more than charles stone?  charles was top 10 last year in assists points and rebounds, gave the team an inside scorer/defender and was a true senior leader.

billy karis and john bedford should not be mentioned in the same sentence.  unless of course it is the sentence i just wrote.

the camels are 2-5 and are only alive in the playoffs because they beat wesleyan and tufts.  if they get in, i predict a 1st round lost.  if i am wrong, only then will i believe the hype you've been giving this team all year.

nescac1

I predict the Ephs will emerge with at least a split this weekend to give themselves a fighting chance in NESCAC's ... maybe I am being starry-eyed, but this team has had so many narrow defeats and frustrating game ending situation, I just feel like they are due ...

topoftheworld, plus one, great line on Karis / Bedford ... CCsalive does indeed border on self-parody at times, but gotta love the enthusiasm ... you get the sense that if offered a trade of Bernier for Stephen Curry, he'd decline ...

CCsalive

Thanks for the great laughs!
I like Stephen Curry but his dad, Dell, might be better suited for the Princeton.
I try not to be sarcastic about actual on-court analysis (except for my last sentence).

I apologize to all the John Bedford fans; I was simply trying to make the "veteran backcourt" argument. How is John doing? I did think he was a great player.

Lastly, do any of you know what it is like to lose perenially(word? spelling?). I was not yet a CC fan when they dominated all of you in the 90's. Although, I have heard stories of how sweet it was to demolish Williams and Amherst.

If I can't make two wins over Wes and Tufts sound worthy of praise, then what do I have left!?

topoftheworld

ha, i love the entusiasm, and the posts in general.  keep the comedy and analysis coming.

Pat Coleman

I believe 104 weeks in a row, pulling from David Collinge's pre-2008-09 research and adding this year. It was the longest active streak in the poll.

cc,
a reality check mighty be in order.  maybe amherst was demolished in the 90's by conn and i would say they probably were.  but conn certainly didn't dominate williams back then.  i can think of only two years when conn beat williams-'99 and 00.  i was there in 98 in new london when matt hunt tipped the ball in at the buzzer for an eph win.  the archives say conn won one other time either 96 or 97.  before that if memory serves me, they were pretty bad......

Unfortunately, I don't foresee the ability to produce a All-NESCAC All Crazy team this season. It was a fun triology while it lasted. However, if I had been able to run the simulated draft, CCSalive would have to win for "All-NESCAC All-Crazy Poster of the Year." Either he sells used cars or he just has a great knack for salesmanship. My favorite sequence of posts was the one that came before the Williams/Midd weekend when Conn was 0-2 in conference, and then the post immediately following that weekend when the Camels were 0-4 in conference play. Here they are:

Conn is 0-2. I'd have rather played Trinity on Saturday, but nothing one can do about that. Conn's schedule is imposing as it will take a big effort to avoid 0-4 with Midd and Williams this weekend. The goal for the Camels is to make the NESCAC tourney and 0-4 (with 3 of the 4 losses to the top teams) would not be impossible to overcome. So, in my book, one win this weekend would put the Camels right where they need to be. A winless weekend still does not warrant panic.

Two losses later...

Don't count the 0-4 Camels out yet. I'm not sure what is going on with Porter, but he isn't contributing like he was, that is for sure.
Conn's next three opponents are Bates, Tufts, Wesleyan.
The Camels are kicking themselves for not beating Trinity.

I wish every team had at least one die hard fan like CCSalive that posted up. How can he possibly have negative karma?

Here are my other two favorite snipits.

Does anybody who reads this page watch ESPN, follow sports in general, or appreciate sarcasm?

Do any of you wonder why people consider Amherst a bastion of geekdom?

Who cares about f-ing spelling!?

I want some Jim Rome style smackdown! I'm a step ahead of all of you. I shut you up regarding Harvard>BC>UNC, and most of you are like "huh?"

"You play to win the game!"- Herman Edwards
"Playoffs!?"-Jim Mora, as featured in the Coors light ads. Does anyone else understand these types of funny sports/pop culture running jokes/quotes?

Seriously, this page has become as exciting as The Wall St Journal. Or, should I say Martin Luther's Treatise?

Did you guys know that Conn College didn't enroll men until the mid-seventies and they went to a Men's Final Four before Amherst did? Please, do me a favor, respond to my other thoughts before you expound on why it took so long for Amherst to get to a Final Four.

Where are the Predictions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????????????????????

Quote from: CCsalive on January 14, 2009, 09:47:19 AM
The Camels are for real.

Lastly, whoever it was that wrote that Williams had something of a "Big Three" please take it back. Amherst had a Killer Five, Williams had a Dynamic Duo in Crotty and Crossin (I don't care if I got his name wrong), but their current squad has nothing approaching a Big Three. They did pick-up a BIG L to the Continentals of Clinton, NY.

eclinchy - would you say tufts lack of success is more to due with galvins injury, the strength of the team in general, or a little of both?  galvin got hurt in the first tufts conference game, and they've been 2-8 since.  With Galvin they were 7-6 but they only had 2 wins against teams that now are above .500.  They only had 2 wins against teams above .500 teams all season and they were west conn and cal lutheran.  So I wonder if losing Galvin really was the difference and I wanted the information from a tufts source.

CCsalive

I am humbled.

Thank you for the Matt Hunt reference. Matt was from Clinton, NY; had he stayed home and joined Jostens winner Mike Schantz on "The Hill," Hamilton might have won a national title. While I invented Will Chandler's Jostens Trophy, please trust that Mike Schantz did indeed win the award the year after Nogelo who, btw, I have heard still "kills-it" in a New Haven area men's league.

I like the 'Cuse tonight!
Go Heels!

CCsalive

FYI- Porter is a better frosh than was Stone.
In conference-only stats, Porter is Top 10 in scoring and assists.
Don't get me wrong, I loved Charles Stone, but Porter is deserving of at least Co-ROY with Mendell...the stats show it. (Two games left)

Walzy, still not quite sure how I was only an honorable mention on last years team...

Trust me in that selecting an all-crazy team in Germany would be like working on the selection committee at an Ivy League school.  SO MANY worthy candidates!
