It appears that Maker is using nation-wide contacts to drum up recruits.

Update on David Hixon's latest class of recruits and program at New England Basketball Recruiting:

In the offense that Amherst has been most known for in recent memory, Hixon has played at least on post player with extended range and good passing skills. That being said, I think we will see more of Holmes' range in the years to come so there is a good chance he will play the 4 consistently at some point.

Two more NESCAC recruits, and the rich continue to get richer.

First, another Wesleyan kid:

http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2009/mar/25/basketball-jensen-beach-hogan-wesleyan-university/

That is at least seven confirmed recruits for Wes, at least several of whom are big impact guys (as for this guy, who knows), most of whom are swingmen or point guards.  If Reilly can add a big man or two next year, watch out.

Next, another strong Trinity recruit, according to that New England recruiting site, Cam Sutton, PG.

Trinity, Amherst, Williams, Wesleyan are all really loading up this year.  Amherst/Trin cleaning up in region, Williams out of region, Wes both.

None of these guys have yet to bounce a ball in NESCAC anger.

For those who are interested, below is the preliminary schedule for Williams next season.  A few points to note:

  • Williams plays 7 of its first 8 games at home and the one road game is at MCLA (about 10 minutes from campus)
  • Williams will travel to Randolph-Macon over Christmas to play in R-M's Xmas tournament
  • The Non-Con games are good, although there are a couple of cupcakes
  • No trips to Maine -- BBC all come to Williams
  • The NESCAC games vs Trin and Amherst are away again next year

How is the NESCAC handling Hamilton? Will they have a traveling partner?

I don't know about the traveling partner part but I do know that the men and women's b-ball teams will be traveling together this coming season for all NESCAC schools. This was a cost-saving measure that will be implemented via a NESCAC-wide edict. This is a major change as the practice has been for the men's team to travel while the women's played at home and vice versa.

does that mean women play at 6 and men at 8, or something like that?? should help attendance at women's games, assuming they play first.....

It appears so for the friday night games  On Saturdays, the women would play at 2:00 and the men at 4:00.

I've heard that at least some of the women's coaches are not too happy about this setup

In the UAA, they switch who plays first.  Women play first on Friday nights (6:00, followed by the men at 8:00) and men play first on Sundays (usually 12:00 or 1:00, followed by the women at 2:00 or 3:00).

I don't see why the women's coaches would be upset with this set-up -- I bet it will drive up attendance for their games. If anything, I would think this hurts the men's teams more than anything, who know only have the allotted 20 minutes of warm up time on the court as opposed to the unlimited shooting/warmup time they had before. However, financially this makes a lot of sense, especially in this economy.

When women and men play on the same day at the same venue, the women's play tends to get subordinated to the men's. When the women play alone, they are the only thing in the spotlight.
