Speaking of Holy Cross, Eph Pat Duquette in the mix for the HC job:

Were he hired, I imagine he and Paulsen would immediately have a pretty fun rivalry.

A few athletic records are not likely to be broken, such as Joe Dimaggio's 56-game consecutive hitting streak. Williams College's winning the Division III Directors'Cup 11 consecutive times while ranked #1 academically among liberal arts colleges, as well as the most Little Three titles annually for 24 consecutive years, and the most NESCAC championships since they were first awarded are standards of excellence in amateur athletics and academics.

Congratulations to the student/athletes, coaches, faculty, administrators, and the entire Williams College family.

Nice little record, but hundreds of millions of U.S. sports fans (including lots associated with Williams) and billions of worldwide sports fans don't care in the least.

There's another post in General DIII issues that asks who are the DIII powerhouses.....obviously for overall sports Williams, but this year Amherst and Middlebury were right behind.  Nice sweep for the NESCAC.  Careful with the #1 academically for Williams as it teeter totters back and forth with Amherst.  Last year Amherst got the nod.

nescac1

Not to quibble, but Williams was tied with Amherst for first this year.  But in all events, they basically take turns, Williams has been first for five years, and Amherst was first for awhile before then ...

Back on basketball, been quiet here for a few months ... any word / predictions on who the break-out / most improved players will be next year from the returning students?  Other than Meehan from Amherst, it will be hard for many if any non-seniors to make all league next-year with such a loaded rising senior class returning (Schultz, Geoghegan, Wheeler, Pierce, Beyel, Choice, Edwards, Kaminer, Wilson, Phillips, Bernier ... pretty productive group right there).

Any info trickling in on potential instant impact frosh, besides Robertson and maybe Klemm at Williams, a few of the Amherst kids (Kaasila?  Workman?), Sha and Ameer Brown and Beresford at Wesleyan, one of the Trinity swingmen?

The current front page poll question, "Which school will have the most success in their new conference" should include Hamilton in the NESCAC.

How do people think they will fair? I'm not familiar with their roster, who is graduating etc, but based on results from recent years I would say middle of the pack, maybe top four if they're poised for a strong year.

nescac1

I thought Hamilton wasn't joining NESCAC hoops play for a few years?  If that is the case, impossible to predict at this point ... although based on their history, I'd guess they'd be a middle-of-the-pack team most years ...

Ahh, you're right. It's not until 2011-2012.

Excellent point, especially considering this board is geared towards those millions of U.S. sports fans and the billions of worldwide sports fans, and definitely not a NESCAC board on a d3 athletics website. Thanks for the insight!

Playing in a small pond.

What does that mean? The director's cup is for all of division III. You only get points in the NCAA tournament. And regardless of what you think about basketball, the NESCAC, along with the UAA, is the strongest overall conference in NCAA DIII.

I just gave out some karma. Senator Frost Hall of Fame members got some and so did others. Only one poster was smitten.
It will be interesting to see if Joe Reilly will be able to recruit the same kind of high level student athlete at Wes, that he did at Bates. I know most folks think he can but this is a classic case of 'can you top this?' We'll see.

NESCAC plays in a small pond; Joe DiMaggio played in a big pond; they are not comparable for that reason and several other reasons.

nescac1

Also, NESCAC never married Marilyn Monroe.

But isn't that the whole point of a NESCAC education?  DiMaggio played for the Yankees.  A NESCAC grad OWNS the NY Yankees!
