Any other NESCAC teams have previews posted besides Williams and Amherst?

No Wesleyan Team Preview, but an article in the Wes Newspaper on former All-Crazy Team member SID (and professional National Anthem singer) Brian Katten (http://wesleyanargus.com/2009/11/10/brian-katten-%e2%80%9979-sports-information/).

Interesting  scheduling item for Amherst.  On Jan.2, the team goes to Maryland to play Stevenson University.  The school, outside Baltimore has two campuses.  The present gym holds only 400 seats.  It is at one campus.  The new gym is under construction at the newer campus and plans to be ready in early 2010.  I plan to go to the game...but where?
Maybe some insider can explain this game being on the schedule.  It is a long trip among a number of away games..but has the team leaving New England and back up to the northeast.  I am excited about seeing the team play but wonder how/why this game was put on the schedule.   Is it to dedicate the new facility?

That is really random about Stevenson ... must be SOME sort of connection between the programs, you would think.  It's not as if they are a good team that will challenge Amherst, or anything ...

So pre-season rosters and previews are pretty much up it seems ... predictions, folks?  I think after Amherst and Williams as the top two in some order, the rest of the league is REALLY hard to predict, really depends how fast young guys on teams like Trinity and Wesleyan mature.  Midd could be in for a BIG decline.  Not only do the lose the player of the year and the best group of seniors overall, but I heard Locke is not playing first semester and Edwards may be injured, though not sure how serious on the latter.   If Edwards can't go for awhile, that leaves them without a single experienced ballhandler ... may struggle a bit until he gets back.   I think Bowdoin could really be a sleeper with a very good / experience point guard / center combo, tons of size, and a strong group of sophmores ready to break out.  I could see them battling Colby, maybe Trinity for third.

Still think the all-conference projections (always insanely speculative even at this pont) haven't changed much from what they were in the offseason,  something like Choice, Schultz, Pierce, Meehan, Geoghegan on first team, Wilson, Bernier, Wheeler, Phillips and Porter on second.  Possible break-out guys: Rubin, Whittington, Wang (Williams), O'Connell, Hanley (Bowdoin), Waller, Holmes, Barrisse (Amherst), Locke, Sharry, Edwards (if healthy) (Midd), Russell (Colby), Ellis (Bates), Beyel (Tufts), a bunch of different guys on Trinity / Wes.

From Wes, I'd like to see Mendell (who should have been ROY last year, with better statistics than Demetrius Porter in pretty much every category, including--as a g/sf mind you--rebounding) and Kaminer (who put up 23 against Amherst and 29 against Albertus before breaking his foot last year) get looks for All-CAC.  Also Maltz, who is one of the top rebounders in the conference could be looking at a big year after a breakout sophomore year.

Season Opener tonight for the Cardinals at home vs. Johnson State, first game on the road to recovery.  Wes will probably be starting 2 freshmen tonight... potentially a look at 09/10 ROY candidates.

I partially take that back, he only had better stats in PPG, Minutes, Rebounding (off, def and tot), Foul Shooting Percentage, Turnovers, and his shooting percentage was only 2% less despite putting up 130 3-pt attempts.  The only statistic Porter led Mendell by a large margin in was Blocks.

The Colby Men's Basketball season preview came out yesterday on the Colby Athletics website:

http://www.colby.edu/athletics_cs/news/mbaskpre11-19-09.cfm

The Colby team looks like it could be very strong this year.  The size of Colby from forwards all the way to guards should present some interesting match-up issues for the competition.

Amherst -27.5 Vs. Maine-Farmington
Over/Under 125.5

It appears that due to the new league schedule with men and women combined, the men's travel schedule for league games repeats last year's.

Amherst tied with UMaine Farmington at the half.

Meehan had a rough half going 1-8.

Kaasila looked good, scoring 7 in limited action on 3-3 shooting including a trey.

Cardinals Beat Johnson State 104-94.  Sign of the times for the Tech, Run and Gun baby.  Mendell drops 26 and Maltz with a double-double (10 and 13).   ROY watch is on as Shasha has 22 and Derick Beresford has 17.  Next up is Becker College, as the Cards try to take their first home tournament in a longggg time.

Middlebury opens the season with a win at Swarthmore, 65-57.

The freshman backcourt of Nolan Thompson and Jake Wolfin combined for 26 points and 8 rebounds. Jamal Davis added 15 points, while Ryan Sharry contributed 7 points and 8 boards.

The Panthers were without Tim Edwards (injury), Ashton Coughlin (injury)  and Andrew Locke (abroad until January).

The Colby Mules open up regular season play today with a formidable opponent in Rhode Island College.  The Mules beat a strong RIC team last year at Colby, it will be interesting to see how Colby fares today down in Rhode Island.

Even though this is an early season game, it should provide a good gauge as to how the Mules will handle stiff competition this season.  Good luck Colby.
