Gentlemen - let's dispense with the appetizer and move on to the main course - NCAA final four - neutral site - in OT the full strength MIDD KIDDs stun EPH-U and go on to play for the national title.   WHOLEY COW !!!!

Good morning everyone –

Walzy – Your all-crazy team is legendary.  And being the Colby observer I am, you hit the nail on the head with your #4 pick, Chaz (or Chas?) Woodward.  An old teammate of mine sent me the YouTube link this morning.  I was at this game, but seeing this again has me in constant disbelief.  Also, your all-crazy team is referenced in the video's description.  You have quite the following.

Thank God this didn't cost Colby the game.  Wins against Amherst are hard enough to come by.  Stay cool this Saturday CHAZ!

That is fantastic. I have updated the Crazy Team post to include the link. Thank you!

How stunned could anybody be if Midd beat Williams? Midd is a top 10 team.

walzy,
again great work on the all-crazy team..

i get a kick out of the audio on that technical where the man says "i'd like to see an instant replay of that" and his son replies "daddy, how do we see the instant replay??"....

regarding the quality of nescac gyms, also noticed in the youtube clip that colby puts up a curtain in theirs (i've never visited there or any maine schools).  i would say that generally the nescac gyms i've seen are all pretty good places to watch a game as a fan but the quirkiest things have to be amherst' not pulling the curtain; tufts' fire-escape stairs for the visiting team; and the yellow light at midd(which i think has since been fixed).  wes new gym is also pretty nice...but i will always remain partial to the railing behind the basket in chandler......

doesn't amherst only leave the curtain open when the risers are out for extra seating? wes' gym is nice...though i remember it being ridiculously cold

The post raises an interesting question:

If the Ephs defeat Midd in the NESCAC finals, does the committee send Midd out of region in the NCAA's??

I hope the Ephs and Midd are put in different regions, it would be fun to have two NESCAC teams in Salem similar to 2004...

Although I would prefer them to be on opposite sides of the bracket so they don't play each other in the semi-final game...

Williams and William Patterson will likely be 1 and 2 from the E/NE/Atl area.  The big question will be what happens with the VA teams and who gets sent South and who makes the drive up north.

It'll all come down to distance and who can drive where.  I wouldn't be surprised if Middlebury is sent to a Mid-Atlantic site that can also accommodate some teams from Virginia.

It must be nice to be in an area where distances are small enough to expect separation of conference rivals!  The ONLY time I recall CCIW teams ever being separated was 2001, when IWU made the final four (beating conference champion Elmhurst along the way), and Carthage fell one game short from a different section.

C'mon out to the Midwest/West and see how you fare in the 'Bracket of Death'! :o ;)

Settle down, Ypsi, it's a rarity even on the East Coast.  The NESCAC can usually expect their top two teams to avoid each other before the regional finals, but it's quite rare for them to be in two entirely different brackets.

Just had to pull your chain. :D  You made it sound like almost a done deal that Williams and Midd would be in different brackets (AND go to Salem).

With ODAC suddenly exploding from a borderline power conference to this year being THE power conference, I'd love to see their reps in THREE different brackets!  With their location, it ain't gonna happen, but it would be fun to see what would happen.

2004 season was Amherst's first Final 4, I believe.  Amherst reached it by winning at Franklin & Marshall; beating the host team.  I was there!  In the Final 4, Amherst lost to Williams in the semi's, with Williams losing in the finals by 2.  History has one of the two NESCAC reps going to the Mid-Atlantic region..just as Amherst did last year at Richard Stockton.  If the conference has three teams in the NCAA, does history show the third team going where?  In the same bracket as the conf. champ or north to Rochester?  Interesting mind games.

muletrain

great news about the Mule's mathmatical relevance. I can't talk to much now though because my singular focus is on beating Amherst. The Jeffs are the most dangerous team to play right now. Their talent is incredible. I can just hope that their inexperience goes our way this weekend.

On another note, I am crushed at being beaten out for the all crazy team. I was very happy about Chas making the squad. I was at the first Amherst game when he spiked the ball. If you look closely you can see me put my head in my hands. What an absurd moment!

Regional finals that will only happen in my dreams...

Middlebury (NE), John Carroll (Great Lakes) and Virginia Wesleyan (South) all at William Paterson (Atlantic).

Muletrain -

I agree that Colby is a better squad and deserves to make the dance. However, you better be doing more than "hop[ing] that their [Amhersts's] inexperience goes our way this weekend". If I were you, I would be on my hands and knees praying to the great almighty because last time I checked Amherst still has Jamaal Magloire Jr. (Kaasila) on their team.

As for the all-crazy team, although you showed flashes, you were a distant second to the great Frank Ubile. You are Kobe to his Lebron. Except I assume you're not a rapist.

I want to thank my dog and all the little people who helped me along the way.
