Also, I don't know why you think I wouldn't rank the '08 class as being one of the most talented classes in Amherst history. I can't speak for a very large period of time, but you guys were definitely the most talented class during the time I was there.

My bad

Still though, the class of '07 did a great job of complementing what '08 brought. The 2 defensive stoppers in '07 were huge during that championship run; the class of '08 for all their talent, didn't really have a perimeter stopper at that level, and it showed a couple of times during their senior year.

On the other hand there was also the Wheeler / Walters situation. Walters was awesome his senior year, if he didn't have Wheeler ahead of him for 3 years he would have been able to give a lot more to the program. Those two classes were so stacked though that lots of really good players spent plenty of time on the pine. Good problem to have, as someone said.

be nice, the truth.

anyway, that class was the perfect example of guys willingly sacrificing personal ambitions for something higher.

Question:

Can anyone list recent captains of 'CAC programs that weren't starters?

Lefrakenstein, I agree with your Amherst comrades that you are worrying way too much.  You have an all-conference caliber point guard for two more years plus a solid back-up in Carcieri for next year.  I am not sure any NESCAC team would refuse a trade of Amherst's point guard depth chart for its own.  If that is your thinnest position, I really wouldn't sweat it -- star caliber guys don't want to sit on the bench for three years, usually, and I'm sure you'll get a point guard in next year's recruiting class (and all that is assuming the incoming frosh sticks solely with soccer, as he sounds like a solid back-up as well).  With two straight large recruiting classes, Amherst is now at least 3 deep at every other position, so again, I wouldn't sweat it.  Williams and Trinity are the only other NESCAC teams that have accumulated that sort of depth of talent, and Williams, unlike Amherst, will lose a ton when the class of 2010 graduates and won't be nearly as deep (and Trinity has no rising seniors, so they are likely a year away).  Amherst should, barring something unexpected like a catostrophic series of injuries, remain in at least the top 2, at worst top 3, teams in NESCAC for the foreseeable future.

As for Williams, I hear Maker did indeed get some recruits, but nothing that has been confirmed on any website that I know of (and I think some or all are from outside the region).  But at some point the info will become public I'm sure.

Tim Folan in '03 and Michael Keerney (started half the year but replaced by James Wang) '09 for Williams.

Kearney did actually start the entire year, but he only played a few minutes down the stretch per game despite starting.

On the Williams recruiting front, a midwest poster let me know that he saw a tidbit in the East Lansing Journal (the story apparently is no longer online) confirming that Nate Robertson, 6'3 point guard from Ann Arbor, Michigan, will be attending Williams.  He is supposed to be a very solid player, listed on various recruiting sites as one of the top senior guards in Michigan, and was co-MVP with Josh Bartelstein of a top academic camp.  More on Robertson:

http://highschoolsports.mlive.com/news/article/1657408251/2009-ann-arbor-news-all-area-boys-basketball-team/

Also heard from another source that Dan Divietri, a 6'4 guard from Long Island (although I saw a March 31 article stating he was looking at Ivies, and I haven't seen print confirmation of that one), will be attending Williams.  He was all Long Island as a junior, but was coming off a knee surgery and was relatively down as a senior, so may have slipped under the radar a little.   With last year's starting backcourt graduating and three senior wing players (Rubin, Schultz, Hardy) I imagine they will have a chance to step in, at the latest, by their sophomore years.

Looks like Pierce Edwards is the largest contributer among the Amherst recruits, averaging 13 points and 6 rebounds while Matt Edwards averages 8 and 6. Bryant averages 3 and 8... looks like he might be a bit of a project if he is going to contribute offensively in college.

LeFrakenstein,
Don't sleep on Northampton's Finest Willy Workman. He dropped 45 on Phillips Exeter and 31 against your highly touted Edwards twins of Suffield.

With LeFrakenstein, ac08, TheHerst2and4, Amh63, La Verdad, FPC85, and myself doing all the talking, I get the false sensation that Amherst just had another dominant basketball season. C'mon NESCAC fans, where are all of you? Where are the Colby and Wesleyan fans that predict consecutive wins over the Lord Jeffs? Why aren't Midd fans still basking in the glory (at least until next season starts)? Why hasn't the Williams team picked up a notable recruit yet? Let's pick up the intensity...Spring Training is over.

nescac1

From what I've heard and read, Robertson is a notable recruit for Williams.   Ranked ahead of some point guards in Michigan who are going D-I.   His stats (outside of assists and steals) don't jump out because he is a team-first sort of point guard.

Those are impressive numbers for Workman.  I think some of the Amherst fans are overlooking him because he is not ranked on that New England site but that is clearly an omission due to his being hurt for a few years and flying under the radar.  I'd bet he along with Kaasilas are the most likely impact recruits for Amherst, unless there is someone else who hasn't been made public yet.

Midd fans have been oddly quiet after the big break out year (perhaps still heartbroken over the NCAA's?)  -- any impact recruits for the Panthers?  They could really use another ballhandler, unless one of the frosh buried on the bench emerges.  Otherwise, asking Edwards to do a lot both on offense and defense ...

Was thinking we would hear more from Wes with the addition of Ameer and Sha Sha Brown .. maybe once the season approaches.  Wes should be a fun team to watch next year for the first time in a long time ...

Hopefully Workman is indeed that good... those are impressive numbers. I didnt realize Deerfield was in the same league as Suffield.

I'm surprised we haven't heard anything from the Trinity folks. Where is Formerbant?

I'm telling you, they're a sleeper team next year and a serious contender two years down the line.

Confirmation on Robertson going to Williams:

I see that Workman is now ranked on that New England site above the three Suffield recruits, so maybe someone has been reading this board:
