I'm sure he must be, most recruited athletes do, but applications for most NESCAC schools aren't even out yet, and the ED deadline isn't until mid-November.  Which is not to say top athletic recruits don't receive feedback from coaches until well before then, but usually these things aren't announced so early.

He is certainly an optimist if he thinks Tufts can contend for a national title, after losing most of its firepower from a team that has finished at the bottom of the NESCAC for the past few years.  On the other hand, if you are a talented recruit who wants to play right away at a school with a great hoop history, Tufts provides a great opportunity.  And as Wesleyan has demonstrated, all it takes is a one big recruiting year to become relevant, and two to contend in the conference.

Most NESCAC (and likely D-III) dominated coaching staff in Division I?  That would be Northeastern:

The head coach is a Hamilton alum, the lead assistant played and coached for Williams, the number two assistant played for Hamilton and assisted on the Williams national title team, plus NESCAC coaching legend Tom Murphy is on the staff:

This has to be the earliest in the year I've ever heard of a NESCAC player "committing":

This kid will never be accused of having a lack of confidence.  Strange to read the type of press release usually associated with pro athletes.  What next, does he begin to refer to himself in the 3rd person?  That being said, I read alot about him on the web and watched some highlights.  Looks like a strong guard who can get to the hole.  Time will tell.

The "early commit" to Tufts by the Taft player is a little strange.  Even though each NESCAC member has slightly different admission arrangements, if one reads the common conference policy on admission, there is something odd here.  It states that early admission announcements via the admission office cannot be made until all paperwork is received by the school, etc.  As pointed out by nescac 1, admission paperwork/application for the 2015 class is rarely available at this time.  Oh well, one learns something everyday about recruiting.

I think the bottom line is that he has not been officially accepted yet.  Who knows, he may have tremendous credentials and may be a lock for admission, but I doubt any "competitive" school, in terms of admissions, has begun sending out actual acceptances yet.  Early action is usually December, with regular admissions in late winter/early spring.

In his head he is accepted and committed to Tufts. I hope he doesn't let that affect his grades this Fall...
I also hope there is a release his sophomore year at Tufts about the full-time job offer he accepted. The kid is on top of his game. I'm jealous.

Blake Schultz is headed over to Germany for a trial in the German Pro B league:

Congrats to him. The article mentions that Amherst grad Brian Bauskauskus played in Denmark for year - are there any other recent NESCAC grads that played or are playing abroad?

The entire Amherst '08 class and I believe Bauskauskas, Bradley and Wong from the Amherst '09 class.

Sporting News season preview is out, Williams is ranked seventh, Wang is a second team preseason all-American, Whittington is honorable mention.  No other NESCAC teams or players noted ...

Hugenerd

There aren't a whole lot of teams named from the NE period, let alone the NESCAC.  In addition to Williams being ranked, only RIC and MIT are listed as possible breakthrough teams.

That sounds right to me. Wang and Troy are very talented players and Williams probably deserves an even higher preseason ranking than 7th, but preseason rankings don't matter so I am sure no one is up in arms over a few spots.

Can someone post a link to the Sporting News poll/article?  I would guess that Pre Season D3 polls with a few exceptions have to be a crap shoot as recruits are not as widely known as D1s.  Teams with returning big time players like the two kids at Williams deserve to be noted.  Bottom line, nice to be named, but it means little.  Maybe coaches of teams not mentioned who feel they are good could use this as bulletin board material to motivate

Sporting News doesn't post their NCAA Basketball Preview.  You have to buy the magazine to see it.

Once Hamilton is fully NESCAC next year, will they still be considered an East Region team, or will they be Northeast?
