In this instance, yes. The D3hoops.com Top 25 doesn't have any bearing on the selection process (although it should, right? :) ) but with all three having so few losses they are what we referred to on Hoopsville last night as semi-automatic.

And if Trinity wins the NESCAC tournament, the whole country will hate you even more than they already do.

I don' t think there is much of a chance of one of the non-Williams-Midd-Amherst teams winning the nescac tourney.  I'd like to see Walzy's odds for that.

Odds one of the big three (Williams, Middlebury & Amherst) does not win the 2011 NESCAC Championship:

Yes +3400
No -5000

In dollars, that means bet $500 to win $10 on the "no," and bet $10 to win $340 on the yes.
Trick question: Which double-digit loss team that went 0-3 against the big three in the regular season is going to beat at least two of them on the road and/or at a neutral site (potentially in a 24 hour span)?

Hixon, as you might imagine, was looking forward to another shot at Williams and Midd, with more prep time.

I would like to think that this quote will go up in the Bates locker room.

I would hope that it would take more than nescac1 paraphrasing a radio interview to make it locker room worthy for Bates. To paraphrase the sentence that directly preceded the one above, Hixon said - if we are lucky enough to get by a really good Bates team...

No one is looking past a Bates team that was beating Amherst in Amherst for the first 36 minutes of the regular season game and ended up being our closest conference win of the season.

The Bates coach wouldn't possibly mislead his players just a little bit in this regard, would he?

I'm taking the ride up from Williamstown to Middlebury to see the game tonight. If any posters (Bucket, Old Guy, etc.) are at the game, I'm be the 62 year old big guy in the red winter jacket and blue hat. I'll be sitting behind the visiting bench. I'd love to say hello.

The All-Crazy Team is almost complete. One spot remains. Who will it be?

dman

walzy,
if you're really looking for one more nominee, i would add whoever came up with the idea of having the men play before the women.  it was pretty crazy this weekend to watch 600 people walk out of the gym while the ladies were warming up friday nite and then about 1000 people leave on saturday afternoon.  truly sad and embarassing....

   Dman-You're absolutely right.

Hoping and praying for Andrew Locke as he goes down with a knee injury against Hamilton.

Ugh...  What a shame.  Hopefully it's a minor injury...

Old Guy

The nightmare scenario actually unfolded: Locke went down in a midcourt scrum in agony, didn't get up. Knee. Scary. We'll know more later.

Middlebury handled Hamilton with a strong second half, 69-56. Midd was lucky to be up one at the half, 26-25, the result of a desperation double-pump three-pointer by Joey Kizell.

After Locke went down about five minutes into the second half, Jensen came in and provided much needed energy (3 hoops). Sharry continues to play great ball. Tonight he ran the floor, beat the Hamilton big men to the hoop (18 pts, 7 rebs, 3 blocks). Wolfin took over with about eight minutes to go and made all kinds of shots, including a 12' Tommy Heinsohn running hook shot (16 pts). Wholey had 13.  Locke had four blocks before getting hurt.

Hamilton is young, could be a force in the league next year. They have two very quick frosh guards, Wright, a waterbug, and Newton, who can finish (17 points), a soph shooter, Schulte - 13 points, a soph who can shoot (Schult - 11 points) and a big guy, Click (soph-6'8").

A tough win. Fingers crossed.

Old Guy

Sorry - poor proofreading - it's late: Hamilton's Hans Schulte, a sophomore, had 12 points, 2-2 from three.

Just awful regarding Locke.  He has obviously worked very, very hard given how much he has improved since his first year.  It would be just a terrible break to be unable to finish out his senior year in what could be a deep tourney run.  I really hope the injury was not as bad as it initially seemed.  Please keep us posted!
