Quick Coach Hixon......schedule Green Mountain....you will not need planning and you can use the bench and gain an away win.  The "starters" can even stay home and not be impacted by the trip.
Walzy....now that Pat C. posted your "all crazy" brainchild to the world, you need to copyright it and also watch your back.  I showed your selections to my younger son, the basketball playing one, who mentioned it to my older son, the rugby playing one.  They didn't take it well that you stepped on their "turf".  Picking on me for "butchering the American language" is their inherited right.  They maybe out looking for you.  I mentioned that you are quick and fast for a very large person who was an all star "jock" and is still a young man.  Did I get it correct?  Oh yes...a candidate for next year's list can be the "jerk" who decided that the Div 1 SOS be applied this year to Div 3 when the schedules were already set.
Thanks for the A. Kantor update.  I wondered what had happened to him.   I noticed that J. Long had been promoted to co-SID earlier in the year.

Nothing but love for the die hard Amherst fans like you! Greg St. Jean didn't really beat anyone up either but the team is all for entertainment and in jest. Please call off your sons since I probably can't outrun them anymore!

Third comment... in this chatter about next year...Amherst has a very promising front court player for the 5 position.  He played in a few games last season and is at least 6'7" and very long.  He missed this season due to an ACL injury.  I guess its "out of sight, out of mind".

would that be roshard bryant?? been wondering all year what happened to him.  now just wondering what happened to the other edwards twin?

jayhawk

Roshard has an injury

dman.....Yes.    With regard to the smaller Edwards twin, I was told he transferred to SMU in Texas.
Jayhawk..... I mentioned the ACL injury wrt Bryant in a post before the start of the present season...Homecoming time.  I assume that the injury occurred earlier and recovery is well and on schedule for that sort of injury.  Do you have any further details/info?

Old Guy

Piece on Locke from the local paper. He made Walzy's all-crazy club for his free-throwing shooting (Steve Blass Disease) and some "crazy" adjustments by others to his shot-blocking. He's actually one of the least crazy guys you'll ever meet. Extraordinary young man:

Great, I can read the New York Times and nearly every other paper in the world for free, but not the Addison Indepedent.

Yep. That's one story that won't be getting a front page link in our What We're Reading feed.

The Amherst men's and women's games for this afternoon were previewed on the Amherst website.  It was noted that admissions for both quarter-final conference games were free.  I am curious.  Do other conference teams charge admission to such tournament games?

JustAFan

Many thanks to the Williams athletic department for today's free broadcast of the men's and women's games for those of us unable to make it to Billsville!

An aside: The Williams site has a great article on the younger brother (at Williams) of the 2 Amherst women's swimming stars mentioned earlier on this board and featured recently on the Amherst website. Notwithstanding his admission that he has absolutely no idea what he is going to do when he graduates, I've no doubt he will be very successful at whatever he tries.

Nice easy win for the Ephs, up 29 when they put the third unit in, finished up 20.  Very well balanced, which was a nice change from the Amherst game -- six different Ephs had at least two threes.  Key stat for the Ephs -- 20 assists on 33 field goals.  Lots of great ball movement and they had WIDE open threes all game.  They didn't do a GREAT job of hitting those, but made enough to be in total control the whole way.  James Klemm continues to struggle to find his rhythm of late, but he is a great shooter and it's only a matter of time.

The Eph point guards were particularly good, with Robertson, Rooke-Ley, and Wang combining for 27 points on 10-18 shooting, 14 boards, 14 assists, and excellent defense.   Whittington had four blocks, two big dunks, lots of intimidations, and even hit an outside jumper ... very good production from Dodson and Epley, combining for 19 points on five threes.  If Williams can get anything close to that out of the four spot, they are very, very tough to beat ... that is the real x factor.

For Bowdoin, Defeo had a nice game, hitting 4-5 from three, to end his career in style.  Bowdoin will be tough next year, losing only one senior, they just need one or two more guys to step up to help out their top three guys.

Next weekend should be a war!

Walzy!....how do you do it?  Amherst breaks open a close game in the 2nd half to win 77-61.   Amherst went into the half with a 5 point lead after going ahead by 10 early in the half.  Amherst came out strong in the second half and went up by 12-14 before Bates battled back....with the help of the people in the stripes.  Amherst had 6 fouls called to 1 for Bates early in the 2nd half......including a questionable intentional foul called on Waller for throwing his arms about....the "chicken foul"...after pulling down a rebound.  Ellis of Bates shot the foul shots giving him 4 foul shots in less than 20 seconds.
Amherst went ahead by 18-21 by the 6 minute mark and was ahead by 21 when both sides put in new squads.  The players knew about Walzy's spread and made it happen.
Meehan was out of sorts in the first half and left with three fouls.  He came back strong in the second half.  Barrise led the charge in the 2nd half by hitting three 3-point shots and rebounding hard...finishing with 9 boards.
Gallant of Bates must be going for the St. Jean award.  He made a very hard foul on Toomey...knocking him to the floor,  It was called a fragrant foul and Bates' coach dressed Gallant down.  Gallant should have been ejected from the game.  Toomey was going for a break away layup with a Bates defender near the basket.  Gallant just slammed into Toomey from behind.
Next game at Williams against Middlebury.  Hope Locke will be ready for the payback game.

Old Guy

Midd 61; CC 41: This was a 12 point game when Sharry picked up his third foul early in the second half; without Locke, that was a little worrisome, but the Panthers resonded with an outburst and the outcome of this one was decided fairly early. Conn shot 22% from the floor (2-18 from three). Sorry to sound like a broken record, but it's fun to watch these guys play their man-to-man defense every night.

Sharry had five points (only took three shots, made two of them) but had nine rebounds. Kizell was tough - 3-3 from three - 13 points; Wolfin had seven assists, many of the pinpoint variety, four steals and 10 points; Thompson was Thompson - 11 points, six rebounds, great D on Vadas (five points); valuable and versatile Jamal Davis had six points, four rebounds, and two blocks (and a nice two-handed flush from a standstill) in 17 minutes. Remember the name James Jensen as he will be a factor next year: he came off the bench today and was very energetic (6'5", fast, agile) and scored three hoops. Physically, he resembles Workman but he's a frontcourt player.

Honest, no gamesmanship in my report last week on Locke's injury. It looked really bad - ask Toad22 - he was at the game. I hope Andrew is ready next weekend; if he can't go, or is subpar, it would hard on the team, of course - he changes the game (ask Conn College - they got to the rack today: 40-39 rebounding edge), but it would be sadder for him individually as he's worked so hard to get to this point.

Sorry about the annoying link on the Locke story - I was quite sure it would come through whole. The article spoke significantly to his academic achievements and ambitions - a neuroscience and economics double major, academic all-american last year. He also studied abroad in South Africa last year in the fall and taught basketball in the townships. Hopes to play in Europe next year. Remarkable guy. NESCAC sports.

All roads lead to Williamstown next weekend.
