The Final Four will be streamed online -- there's a link on our scoreboard already -- but it is NOT on television this year.

Thanks, Pat. Do you know if the streaming will be available outside the US?
Sorry for the wisecrack, but my first thought was whether the central government in your area has censured your browser under the guise of net-neutrality.

Thanks for the encouraging news about the games being available on-line.

Picking the regional teams is very hard since you want to include as many schools as possible, which means the selections often do not represent the 20 best players, but I find it hard to believe that Middlebury's Andrew Locke is not on the team.  I have not looked at his season statistics but at the same time I think they're secondary to the more important factor--namely, that he has been a singular gamechanger all year long and, with perhaps the exception of Whittington, he has done so a manner that no other player in the region has approached in many a year. Take away each of these players and neither Williams nor Middlebury would be in the Final Four this year.

I also found it surprising that no one from Becker was on the team. I don't know what his stats were for the season but the point guard for RIC (Mason Choice) also deserved some consideration based on what I saw in the tournament.  And there's no doubt in my mind that Kates from MIT deserves to be on this team.

Call me a NESCAC homer but if the team is going to include a freshman guard it's going to be Twomey in my book rather than Sheehan from Nichols, and next year both Twomey and Robertson better be on this team.  Finally, heresy of heresy coming from a Williams fan, but I think Meehan deserves to be on the first team, with Wang on the second, bumping WPI's Robinson down to the third team (actually I'd put Kates on the thirds and Robinson on the fourths).  But I realize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  I just happen to appreciate Meehan's consistent steadiness (and the work he put in over the past 3 years to get his game to this level this season) to Wang's more mercurial game.

If I were able to give karma, I would. No apology necessary. Sadly, the concern is that CBS often does not broadcast anything outside the US. It's under the guise of patriotism, rather than net-neutrality.

Pat -
Re: the video link for watching the games in Salem.  Can you cut and paste the link to a post here.  Sort of confusing to find it on the D3.com site or the NCAA site.  Thanks.

Major Hoople

Does the NCAA issue any nationally printed press releases about the D3 tournament?  No t.v. this year (why?) but the Division is certainly deserving of some national recognition from the "governing body" or is there a travel restriction/limitation on press releases too?

nescac1

Is it me, or has "Andrew Locke" changed his appearance substantially heading into the Final Four?

Well, plus, we had mis-ID'd a photo, which is what nescac1 is slyly referring to. (It's easier to email bug reports.)

Then we found that there had been a number change and the photo I thought was Ryan Wholey was not, in fact, him. So I gave up on Midd's photos and went with stuff that the U of R was kind enough to send this weekend when they were hosting.

I see that Conor Meehan is on the all-star team that will play on the Sat. pre-game.  More reason for me to go to Salem.   Was thinking not to go down with all the Williams crowd, etc.
I was puzzled that Meehan only made the D3hoops regional 3rd team!  It is to be noted that he was selected on the regional first team by the basketball coaches.   Who votes on the D3hoops' selection?

Pat Coleman

Staff and a couple of SIDs from every conference.

We used to give every SID in the region a ballot, but then we found that the all-region teams tended to favor whichever conference did a better job in turning out the vote. Now we have one ballot for about four teams or so.

Glad you'll be going to Salem for it -- we hope this event becomes a reasonable draw of its own.

Meehan's stats probably got in his way, to some extent. He led a pretty balanced Amherst team - but his ability to lead doesn't show up in the numbers other than victories, and if you don't follow the team, you may not realize how good he really is.

Link to a few articles about Whitmore's retirement that I thought were pretty good.  The AD said they'll hire a coach by June 1st.  Also to correct myself from before, Damien Strahorn, who would seem to be one of the favorites for the job, coaches at Plymouth State right now, not Salem State.

Colby has their women's bball team coach's job posted also.  Do you think that is a serious posting or are they going through the motions only to hire the interim coach?  Will they name an interim coach for the men or try to hire the permanent coach?

JustAFan

The Williams athletic page says that it will post the link to watch Friday's games by noon on Friday (see Announcements section below Ephs Scoreboard at http://williams.prestosports.com/landing/index).  Good to see Williams also providing the game on a big screen in an auditorium in the science quad, to which you enter thru the science library.  The irony of that (at least to me) underscores the essence (and uniqueness) of the NESCAC!
