I believe that Maker had no interest.

After posting the above message, I checked HoopDirt.com, which reports the Maker has an interest, so maybe I don't have any idea.

From Hoop Dirt:

Add Williams College head coach Mike Maker to the growing list at Vermont. According to my source, he was contacted by UVM, and has expressed interest in the job. He is 76-14 in three seasons at Williams, including an NCAA DIII Final Four appearance this past season. As I reported on Friday, Washington assistant Ralph Chillious is also in the mix and Middlebury coach Jeff Brown has said that he's not interested.

One of the other Vermont finalists is former Eph player Pat Duquette, who has long been in the running for a shot at a head coaching job in New England, so I imagine that there is a decent chance that someone with an Eph connection will end up with the job.

Speaking of regional coaching news, former Ohio State coach Jim O'Brien named coach at Emerson, wow!  Of course, just getting a big name is no guaratee of success -- the former Celtics coach struggled at Brandeis, if I recall.  Still, that is quite the coup for Emerson.

And finally in more coaching news, congrats to Dave Paulsen for signing an extension at Bucknell after a tremendous season this year:

Interesting post on HoopsDirt.com this morning.  First info on the candidates for the Colby head coach job.  Seems that two are head coaches elsewhere and former Colby players and the third.....is the interim head coach at UVm.

That's hilarious. Vermont newspaper reported that a couple weeks ago.

One of the candidates mentioned by amh63, is most definitely a member of the Reggie Cleveland all-stars: current Plymouth State coach Damien Strahorn.

Colby Hoops

I'd be happy with Strahorn or Maines getting the Colby job.  Strahorn scored 1,000 points in two years as a player at Colby after transferring in as a junior.  He was a graduate assistant for a year or two at Colby, then was an assistant at Columbia, before taking over Plymouth State last year.

Maines is also a former player and Colby assistant who took over the Thomas college job a few years ago.  Thomas was terrible when he took over, and he has turned them around big-time, as they play the Maine NESCAC teams pretty competitively. Maines has definitely had success in recruiting to Thomas, as they have a bunch of decent players from out of state.

That can't be right. Jeff's first public comment about this was the end of last week...Thursday or Friday. Before that, all speculation, including in the Burlington Free Press, was that he was a top candidate.

Wow, time flies. I checked my Twitter timeline and indeed we did only send that tweet last Thursday. So it's been one week.

Based on hoopdirt.com today....the UVM coach's position will go to the interim coach.  This will be good news for the Williams' posters and even the Colby fans.   Hamilton coach's job is still open and there is the Navy job opening.

My uninformed vote goes to Maines for the above referenced confusion it would cause.

Walzy...still keeping late hours, I see and retaining your sense of "wit".
I hear that you are becoming a student again on the Charles in that shining new building....it was in an older building when I took several classes at Sloan.  Good luck and don't stay up too late.

Local newspaper announced that the Naval Academy position has been filled.  The head coach at Penn State has taken a pay cut to take over the job in Annapolis.  Hoopdirt.com posted that it could at least be a 200K pay reduction.  The NESCAC should be quiet for now until the positions at Colby and Hamilton are filled.

Congrats to Damien Strahorn on being named the new Colby coach (to no one's surprise):

http://www.nescac.com/sports/mbkb/2010-11/news/COL_Strahorn_052411

Next year is going to be rough for Colby with the talent on the roster and with essentially a lost recruiting year, but hopefully admissions will give Strahorn the support to revitalize the roster, and the program, quickly -- easy to forget that Colby would have likely been a national power had NESCAC allowed NCAA play in the 1980's and early 90's, it would be great to see them competitive with the big boys again ...
