QuoteLOL. The NESCAC can't even get its proper due on this site when they're ranking the conferences by alphabetical order.

My mistake. I'll fix it.  Thanks for noticing it, though I didn't intend to slight the NESCAC.  I'm fond of the conference and have the outstanding student loans to prove it. :)

Gordonmann....That is the nature of this board......won't "cut you slack" even on things other than basketball....especially a graduate of a "rival" conference school.

So, a few weeks ago I was chatting with one of the returning Midd players, and I asked about the freshmen. His response: "Big!"

Taking a look at the roster, just posted, I see what he means:

A couple of 6-5 guards, and three forwards listed as 6-6, 6-7, and 6-9.

Can't wait to see them on the court. I've heard particularly good things about one of the guards, another Jersey kid, who played summer league ball with Wolfin and really impressed him, I understand.

Okay, Bucket. Let's go to practice soon and watch through the windows in the upstairs hallway, see for ourselves (and then go out for a cold one downtown). The word I'm getting is, "good, but not this year"; Locke's minutes will go to Lynch, Roberts, and Jensen. Could be my sources are being cautious. The first weekend will be quite a test.

Envious of you Midd. posters.....to have the roster posted.  Went to the Midd. site and was interested in the big guards.  In particular Dean Bierley of Delbarton school in N.J.  He is big at 200 lbs.  He comes from a good BB program.  Amherst has a soph g/f from the same school.....Tim Killiam also listed at 6'5" in height but not as heavy.  He was one of the last year FY players that was getting more minutes late in the season.  I understand that Coach Hixon was finding it harder to keep Tim on the bench based on this play during practices.  Sure the two players have a good read on each other, being teammates in HS.

You're on. Just name the day. (Other than next Monday...have to be in your old stomping grounds of Lewiston on business.)

And when you say "good, but not this year" are you talking about the freshmen class in general?

Is it true that Wang of Williams is out for awhile because he had a back operation?

centfan

i am not sure why players leaving is the indicator of bad chemistry on a team. for me, chemistry is the reason for wesleyan's sub par performance in the last couple of years, not the exodus of players.

News on early NESCAC commitments for next year.  Another big guy for Middlebury and a shooting guard for Bowdoin:

Williams has also posted its roster for this year:

http://athletics.williams.edu/sports/mbkb/2011-12/Roster

Like Midd, the Ephs added some serious length (6'5 and 6'6 guards, a 6'5 forward and a 6'10 center).  All other than Semin (the forward) will need to bulk up based on listed height / weight combos.  Speaking of bulking up, Eph forward/center Michael Mayer added 20 pounds in the offseason, hopefully that helps the team inside, where the Ephs had no physical presence at all beyond Whittington last year.  Semin could also help in that regard at the four spot.

Last year's roster was a bit thin for Williams, but they are carrying two more guys this year, and certainly have more experienced depth, particularly on the perimeter.  Assuming Wang is healthy, the main preseason issue will be figuring out a go-to guy  (or a go-to pair, at least) on the inside, but with four centers ranging from 6-7 to 6-10 on the roster, three of whom are experienced, there are certainly a lot of options to choose from.

Thanks nescac1 for the news,,,,,,had checked the Williams site just the other day.  Does your comment wrt Wang, confirm to a degree, Jayhawks' post.
Anyway, do not expect Amherst to post a roster for awhile, even after the football season.  Two players listed last year are still playing on Fall teams.  One player, Noon, has just been named the conference soccer player of the year!  If the team goes deep into the post season, it will be awhile for S. Noon to join the team.  Last year he did not play due to injuries....from the soccer games. It seems that schools are posting roster of 17.  It will be interesting to see who "makes" the initial roster.
Oh yes, Hamilton has its team members posted.  Of interest to this board, Hamilton has a "big" man that was rookie of year and a first team member of the Liberty League the past two years....returning.  Also a new head coach that is a proven winner.

Wesleyan just posted their roster http://www.wesleyan.edu/athletics/mbasketball/roster/index.html

No word on the position of the incoming freshmen but two things stand out to me.

With a 17 man roster, Coach Reilly has gone beyond the 14-15 person cap he tended to put on his previous Bates/Wesleyan teams.  Perhaps he's preparing himself for the wake of injuries that seems to haunt Wesleyan every year (knock on wood).  Hopefully this size of roster means that players that are a little banged up can get the rest they need to recover without having to compromising practices.

Second Im starting the campaign for Ziggy Zacks to be preseason All Crazy based purely on name and this photo http://www.msgvarsity.com/westchester/pelham/zacks-attack-pelham-star-silences-peekskill-1.356868

More info is sure to come on this large freshman class

We may see some celebs in the stands at future NESCAC games.  Hamilton frosh Lin is the brother of NBA player Jeremy Lin.  Wesleyan frosh Robinson has a somewhat famous uncle who anyone should be able to find with some creative googling.  Hint: he has already made a fairly recent appearance on the Wesleyan campus.

nescac1

Oh and by the way the Ziggy photo is incredible.  If he continues to rock that look, an all-crazy lock, I concur.

nescac 1.....The real question is can these FY players PLAY?  Don't go to see games based on who is in the stands.  Interesting is that also noticed LIn and thought he was a little light at 135 lbs.  Wonder why he didn't go to Harvard?....I know....because of the Duke trained coach.
