I'm hoping all Ephs can play on Tuesday vs Wes, but I doubt it. In any case, the team won't have had much more practice, so there probably won't be as much cohesiveness as there should be. To date this year, I don't think more than 3 of the top 7 have played a whole practice. Williams is going to have to scratch and claw to get victories for the next few weeks. Wesleyan will be a tough match up.

Walzy.....Did you see S. Noon on the bench and/or in the scrimmage....behind the curtain?

The strangest part of the game was when 10 of the guys on the Amherst bench went over to the court behind the curtain and played a full 5 v 5 game while the real game was going on. Luckily, the five starters and other six subs were able to get it done against W&L.
It really is remarkable how many guys are on the bench right now. I am assuming a couple cuts will be coming down the pike over the next week or two...can't carry 21.

Did that actually happen?  Seems a little disrespectful to the other team.  Couldn't do a little scrimmage pre or postgame?

Good win for Middlebury, beating a tough Ramapo team on their court, 73-62.

It was a balanced offensive attack for the Panthers, who were playing their second straight game without  first-team AA forward Ryan Sharry, who suffered a sprained ankle in practice on Friday. Wolfin (10 pts., 9 assists), Kizell (12 pts., 7 assists), Thompson (13 pts.), and Lynch (12 pts.) all were in double figures, while James Jensen and Jack Roberts each recorded double-digit boards.

Sounded like a physical game (both Jensen and Lynch fouled out), and Midd again held an opponent to a sub-40 % from the field.

Nice win. Good start to season.

The Amherst-W&L game info is posted on the Amherst website.  The writer is C. Johnson a senior player who had an outstanding rebounding night with 7 boards.
7express.....are you still attending classes at WCSU?  Seems you are doing a great deal of driving to BB games lately.

Yah I'm still taking classes.  Only took 2 this semester so I had more time.

I was there.  Really impressed with Wolfin, took care of the ball EXTREMELY well and didn't force too many passes, unlike the first game where the G-MC PG was almost playing too fast for his own good.  Ramapo will be great team this year, probably run away in the NJAC, so this is a great win for them without Sharry.

Seems more than just a little disrepectful to me.  It is one thing for a player to go back there to get loose after sitting on the bench all game, or to keep moving if they turn an ankle or something, but a full blown 5 on 5 during a game...????????

I have never heard of this kind of thing before.  Not saying it has never happened. but just never heard of it.

I was joking about the scrimmage to make fun of the size of the bench. Yes, there were 21 people on the bench. No, they did not disrespect the other team, their own teammates, or the coaches by playing on the other court (everyone played in the second half).

My spreads and the All NESCAC All Crazy team are valuable contributions to this site, but the rest of what I write isn't usually all that serious.

Old Guy

Not so fast, Walzy. In my view, Amherst was in fact guilty of disrespect this weekend. How respectful is it to defeat your opponents by a combined 63 points! Juggernaut.

With games against three in-state opponents before the break, the Panthers should just wrap Sharry in cellophane until after the holidays. Long minutes for the guard trio and relatively new faces in the frontcourt (Roberts, Lynch). Lynch was a somewhat undersized, bulky banger with some nice post moves last year; this year, he's trimmer and stronger, I'm told. He was the tourney MVP. Roberts is is a legitimate 6'8" and long. Jenson is fast and athletic and had nice numbers on Saturday (six points, 10 boards, 17 minutes) - looks like he's past a preseason injury. Sharry's injury, if not serious, could have some beneficial side-effects in playing time for younger players.

Na, my joke wasn't very funny.

On a side note, injuries are a big part of sports and they affect the majority of teams every year.

Just a few thoughts after watching Williams' opening weekend:

Very true. Hoping the the Ephs' early season injuries actually help in the long run, similar to what Old Guy says about Sharry's injury w/ Midd. The result is that some kids that wouldn't have gotten time are going to. That should be useful later in the season, as long as the team isn't too far back as a result.

Wang is clearly not back to normal yet. Not even close.

Klemm's knee appears to be affecting his shot. That, or he's cold. Or both.

Freshman guard Wohl can play. He's already in the running for 2nd best perimeter defender on the team at this point (behind Robertson, in competition with Rooke-Ley and Eply), and he rebounds like a freak for his position (6'6" PG!). Look out for him as the year progresses - I don't think he has completely settled into the offense yet, but he will.

Weinheimer (6'6" sophomore wing player) clearly put in some work this summer. He looks really good when he goes to the basket. He's got a chance to be an offensive focal point next year.

Walzy, are we getting a spread on Williams-Wesleyan?

amh63

To date, Amherst is playing two of their FY players and more of the backups in the second half of games that are well in hand.  What is surprising is FY guard from California has not played, nor the back up center Bryant.  Will see if they are inserted in the games ahead, if Amherst gets a big lead.

LOL, sorry I went off on it, But i was just reacting to the info.  Glad to see it was just my misunderstanding.  I would hate to think of any coach ever allowing that.
