This spring at the NESCAC track meet Drew took second in the finals of the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.69 which translates very roughly to 4.40/40 (hand held). 4.40s are very hard to find on NESCAC football fields. In fact only very occasionally does any NESCAC team have any player nearly that fast. As I recall, about 20-25 years ago Colby had a LB/RB transfer from U/Maine whose name escapes me and who as a junior was regarded as the best football player in NESCAC and won the NESCAC 100 meter title. He probably was faster than 4.40. He did not compete his senior year due to injury. In the 1976 NFL draft the Cincinnati Bengals took Scott Perry, a Williams DB, in the fifth round. At the Bengals mini-camp that May Perry ran a 4.35.

When speaking of success in athletic programs among NESCAC colleges, one should not overlook Middlebury - dominant in skiing seemingly forever, a primary factor in hockey for a very long time, a factor in lacrosse for a long time and in soccer relatively recently. Probably a worthy sport or two has been omitted.
Midd has won 31 NCAA National Championships since the NESCAC lifted the ban on team participation in NCAA tournaments in 1995, the most of any d3 school in the country during this time frame.

re: middlebury
would probably check women's x-country and men's tennis for nat. championships also.....

Hope you don't mind a break in the action, as it were, but I want to share a story the D3 community should know about. You actually may have seen the story on the front page of D3hoops.com, but just in case:

A Goucher basketball player has been paralyzed in a freak accident. He was wrestling around with a friend one morning in his dorm building when he landed on his neck. The entire story is here.

He was released from the hospital to the Kennedy Krieger Institute for rehab shortly after that article was posted last week. However, over the weekend he was sent back to the hospital when he apparently had trouble breathing. Now he awaits a return to the rehab facility, probably any day if he hasn't been released already.

Please keep Damone Brooks, his family, the Goucher basketball team(s), and Goucher community in your thoughts, hearts, and prayers. The family certainly needs help with medical bills as well, so if you feel inclined, please consider them as well.

Mad.....nice input and help to return the post to basketball topics...primarily.  Anyway, its not September yet but your efforts help.  By Sept., aside from Football, etc.  the other conference schools should have their recruited players on board and Maybe, the "table" will be more complete/updated.

Nice work, Madzilla, plus one!  The only addition I can think of is Darrias Sime for the Ephs, a 6'5 forward, who is a joint football / hoops recruit.

So far, none of the incoming recruits has been described as an Aaron Toomey-level can't miss sort of prospect, but often info is scarce until guys arrive on campus and show what they can do in September.  Tufts is bringing in a ton of size (and a few of those guys, in particular Haldanya who sounds like a candidate for NESCAC ROY, have been highly touted already), I see, after two years of some very solid perimeter recruits.  If 1-2 of those guys can contribute early, the Jumbos are going to be very tough next year, and have a bright future going forward.  That was a very quick rebuilding job following a few down years.

More on the Tufts recruits here: http://www.tuftsdaily.com/men-s-basketball-a-tall-order-height-key-for-incoming-class-1.2736265#.T81Jf1LrSSo

I'm guessing Midd has a few more strong recruits we haven't heard about yet.  Same goes for Wesleyan.  Green sounds like a guy who could play early for Amherst.

Skylineboy:  Nice!  Great updates.

Nescac1:  Forgot all about Sime.  As you can see on the video - seems pretty raw in terms of hoops but looks strong as an ox. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raAF_8s5q8E I don't think Sime or Harrell were formally recruited for basketball so it will be interesting to see what they bring to the squad.

As for can't miss prospects - you already know who my sleeper is for ROY...LOL.  Who needs objectivity?

Question though - is it a NESCAC ROY or a freshman NESCAC ROY award?  Is Ryan Kilcullen eligible for the award as a transfer from Boston for example?  Seems like a JC transfer with 2 years of experience would have a bit of an edge on guys just starting at the college level.

madzillagd

FYI - Just saw a tweet that Middlebury took home the Director's Cup this year breaking Williams streak.  Not too surprising Williams couldn't catch up after falling so far behind in the Fall/Winter sports.

jayhawk

Tufts Palleschi- strong rebounder (and baseball player) from Philips - solid experience and first team all league in a fine prep school league
Haladyna- lots of press- Tufts doing a nice job bringing in group of complementary quality players
Amherst- a diverse group with complementary skills- Ben Pollack first team all state Connecticut- impressive 20 pts 20 rebounds per game
James Sanderson- intriguing player - grew 8 inches between sophomore and senior year - at 6'8" may still be growing
Connor Green- extremely talented versatile player former Gatorade player of the year in NH
Steve Pagiluca- solid defense and good spot up shooter
probable recruit-Dan Curtis from BC High-6'7" who started as a junior ( same school as Ryan Sharry)- hurt senior year bur recruited by NESCAC school- tough player who perhaps of his injury could be surprise- Amherst bringing in both size and toughness and diverse skill set
Jaymie Spears- St Marks- recruited as football player-started at point guard on St. Marks- one of the top high school teams in the country-
nice press- not that tall
Nice year for NESCAC recruiting- looking forward to next year

Mad......yes, it seems that Midd. won this year's Director's Cup.  Williams was third behind Wash. U and Amherst came in a close 4th.  Bowdoin and Tufts were also in the top 20......great year for the conference.  Specific info and point spread can be found on the Amherst website.....also on the NCAA site.  Of interest to me is that Amherst also had 25 points in a sport that could not be used due to limits on the number of sports that one can entered?  Oh well, congrats to all the schools.
With respect to the BB recruits posted so far....I find it interesting that Trinity and Conn. both are recruiting "smaller" players so far. There was an interesting article in today's WSJ on the NBA players....I know, it is not a sports newspaper.  Still they have fine writers that bring up interesting points.  The article focused on the fact that many of the top teams in the finals are playing players in positions that are not the "normal" two guards, two forwards and a center.  Teams are on the floor with players that can play several positions and are good shooters inside and outside, etc.   Maybe the Trinity coach is copying the top NBA teams with fast, gifted, strong, athletic players that are just 6'3 to 6'6"......no center and no pg.  The article got. me thinking about the role of the players on the list in the future....other than sitting on the bench.  It is late and I am rambling again.
